I love this calendar. I haven't looked ahead at the pages, so every week there is a marvellous new design to admire. While I don't love all of the images, I do like the majority of them. It's wonderful to have an ever-changing art exhibit hanging beside my desk.

When I heard my neice was into manga, I did some research. Most everything I looked at was very inappropriate for a young adult. This book however is very appropriate. It is well made (nicer than a paper back) & has great color.

Stunning full-page illustrations by Paul Christobal Toral, Arata Isozaki, Etienne Delessert, Jerome Snyder, Nisuke Shimotani, Werner Jeker, Tom Curry, Noriyuki Tanaka plus Ornate Classical Script:2. Thoughful essays about each artist by a variety of Japanese graphic artists in English & Japanese. A must-have volume for any graphic artist. I'm not an illustrator, but I am always entralled by the art presented in these Creation magazines from Japan. They give Graphis magazine a good run for the money!

Stunning Color Plates, Easy to Follow Instruction
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2007-07-12
Andrew Loomis' book was intended for professional illustrators, but today is sought after by art lovers, aspiring artists, professional artists, art teachers, the list goes on. I didn't understand the buzz until I saw the book in person. It's one of those books you just end up loving and lusting after! Glossy color plates, glossy pages, step by step instructions ... I borrowed the book from a friend and was up until 3 in the morning without even realizing it!

Andrew Loomis, born in 1892, was smitten with art at an early age and studied at art schools in New York and Chicago. Eventually, he opened his own art studio on Michigan Avenue in bustling Chicago. He also taught art in Chicago in the 1930's and from that experience developed the techniques which were eventually published in his instructional books in the 1940's.

My research about Loomis' life confirms my solid impression about this book; this is a real book designed to inform and delight!Creative Illustration

Thoroughly creative

The cover of this book does not do the interior justice. I'd seen it for sale on various websites, and really wasn't interested. I had the chance to thumb through a copy, and what's inside is spectacular. Daphne has some delightfully creative designs inside, and a profound attention to detail and line.

The interior is entirely expertly rendered pencil line drawings. If I were to nitpick anything, I'd simply like to see more.

This is the book that prompted one reviewer to gush, "After Dr. Norvig's vigorous analysis, Blake will never be the same again."

Regardless of the humor or accuracy of that statement, this book is an absolute steal. Stunning color reproductions accompany the erudite scholarly explanation of how Blake used the visual medium to interpret Bunyan's work.

This a great love story. The characters and plot were believable. I found myself hoping that Joanna and Giles got together not only for themselves, but the Giles wards. Joanna taught Giles and the children how to love and that it was okay to love. One great story.

Though some of his ideas or "philosophys" are extreemly out of date, it is a marvel to read the book that first experessed the "crazy" ideas that are now common knowledge for a 3rd Grader. I feel that anyone intent on studying philosophy, astronomy, mathamatics, or is just very intrested in the greatest works of all time should deffinitly read this book. Although sometimes hard to understand (Nicolaus is not the greatest writer) because of it's crypticness, it is a "must read."
