These are great to use to teach techniques in Photoshop or Illustrator. Just scan as black & white line art at 300 ppi. In Photoshop use the paint bucket, or in Illustrator use live paint. We printed some as t-shirts and notecards. Fun projects especially for kids.

I haven't had a chance to use this one yet, but have reviewed it and it looks like another winner. Lots of great information to be used in future banner making.

I have posted a review of the full set against part 1 of "An Illustration etc." by Ebenezer Sibly. This volume contains pages 619-914 from that set, and is actually the second volume of part 2. It could be read alone - it contains practical instructions with detailed examples of how to calculate "nativities", or what we would now call birth charts, but the references to material in other volumes will be confusing unless this is realised.

The more analytical early Berlin

This second volume of the collected essays edited by Henry Hardy is in a sense the least interesting of all the volumes of essays. It contains more of the purely analytic philosophical work which is I believe for most readers the least interesting side of Berlin. Berlin's best writing is when he engages other thinkers , when he deals with history and politics in substantial ways. Nonetheless Berlin is Berlin a wonderfully clear and significance- making writer. The essays have the titles: Purpose of Philosophy, Verification, Empirical Propositions and Hypothetical Statements, Logical Translation,Equality, The Concept of Scientific History, Does Political Theory still exist , ' From Hope and Fear Set Free'

Ms. Stevenson's overview of the soldier artists of the Confederacy not only describes the most poignant art of the War Between The States but also illustrates the simple motifs of daily life in the camps as perhaps other more studied paintings cannot. A great primer for this fascinating sub-section of a fascinating era in American art.

This is a specialistic book: description and usage of ancient mathematical instruments. The book is the reprint of a book originally printed in 1770.
There is a long list of intruments, from slide rules to sectors, from astrolabes to quadrants and sundials
To me reading the this book was very interesting. I was able to make a sector and to use it for various calculations, understanding "by living" how drawing at that time was a way to execute calculations. There is a chapter entirely written by Stone and added to Bion original book on eclipse calculations using the sector.
If you are a slide rule collector this is a view on a time where the slide rule didn't ruled!

Illustrations certainly punch up a sermon but the right illustration, that your audience can relate to, will paint a picture of your point in vivid color. Larson has collected a fine group of contemporary illustrations well worth the price of this volume. In fact, if you only get one from it, it is worth the price.

This is perhaps the most interesting work of history I've ever read. I apologize that I don't have long to spend on this review, but you will not be disappointed in this book. His use of language, and familiarity with the sources is excellent, and his simple historical narratives are more compelling than most novels.
We're so used to the idea that the conquistadors were the bad guys, but the truth, as always, is far more nuanced. He closes the book with the first hand account of the old priest Bernal writing long after all of his fellow conquistadors have passed away. It's tremendously moving...

A central theme is the concept of time as waves passing through the universe and that there are many such waves. Before and after a wave the universe is dead (no life) and it's only at the very wave edges that life exists. Time travel is quite easy but you will only see a dead universe in both the past and future. You can look but any changes you make simply "don't happen" as the time wave is not in "now." This neatly gets around time paradoxes.
