A very easy read, I used this book to grasp the basic concepts of the Bible as I educated myself on the scripture. It's an easy read and summarizes the main point of each book very nicely. It's a great childrens book but also good for anyone who wants to get a general idea of what goes on in the Bible.

This volume is a small gem. It contains major portions of the New Testament/Christian scriptures in the Authorised (King James) Version, laid out in spectacular format, easy to read and follow.

This is largely a selection of narrative sections, but there are some selections from Gospels, Acts, Pauline and other letters, and prophetic literature. The books with portions include most of the New Testament texts represented here.

The Bible is full of 'tricky bits'. Many of those are missing here. The narrative life of Jesus is simplified, so as to give an outline, but not lead into some of the parallel texts with variations. Parables are well represented. As a flavouring of the New Testament, this is a good start, perhaps less intimidating and formidible than the complete text.

All major artists through the history of Christendom seem to be represented here, but there is a heavy leaning toward the artists of the late medieval to Renaissance periods. Many of the paintings are famous and instantly recognisable as classics; others are not so famous, but great selections from masters appropriate to the stories they adorn.

In a format under 5 inches x 8 inches, it fits perfectly in the hand for use for personal study and for reading aloud. The binding is very sturdy, and there is a strong cloth cover that resists wear and tear. Every page has colour, and the serif font selection and size make reading easy. I use this for my regular Saturday chaplain service at the retirement home -- the use of the KJV coupled with the interesting illuminations delight the listeners.

There is no commentary here, not even so much as an introduction. The text of the Bible speaks for itself, augmented by the art work from the ages that complements the stories.

This is a lovely book for a gift, for private devotions, and for corporate worship.

This volume is a small gem. It contains major portions of the Old Testament/Hebrew Scripture in the Authorised (King James) Version, laid out in spectacular format, easy to read and follow.

This is largely a selection of narrative sections, but there are some selections from Psalms, Wisdom literature, and prophetic literature. The books with portions include the following (grouped as they are the book):

Genesis
Exodus
Leviticus, Numbers & Deuteronomy
Joshua, Judges, & Ruth
I & II Samuel
I & II Kings
II Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah & Job
Psalms
Proverbs, Ecclesiastes & the Song of Solomon
Isaiah
Jeremiah, Lamentations & Ezekiel
Daniel, Joel, Amos, Jonah, Micah, Zephaniah & Zechariah

The Bible is full of 'tricky bits'. Many of those are missing here. The section on prophets takes much of the wrath and specific diatribe toward the wrongdoers away, for example. However, as a flavouring of the book, this is a good start, perhaps less intimidating and formidible than the complete text.

With hundreds of original woodcuts

The original three volumes comprising E.C. Bigmore and C.W.H. Wyman's monumental classic, A Bibliography Of Printing were published from 1880 to 1886 by the British bookman and publisher, Bernard Quaritch and continue down to the present day as being recognized as a treasure house of information on books dealing with publishing and the printing arts. It was a truly ground-breaking catalogue that quickly established itself as the premier bibliography in this specialized field. The text is beautifully illustrated with hundreds of original woodcuts depicting portraits, printers' marks, topographical scenes, and foliated initials. Bigmore and Wyman's analytical descriptions provided a unique and clarion voice to their well-researched reference book. The one draw back to the 19th century originals was the absence of a comprehensive index. This omission has been corrected with this impressive and outstanding Oak Knoll Press edition with the inclusion of indexes of titles, subjects, and authors. A treasured addition to any dedicated bibliophile collection, A Bibliography Of Printing is an essential, core volume for academic "History Of Publishing" library reference collections as well.

In every generation there is a work of major significance that challenges the existing world view. This work must also bring to light "the hidden things of darkness." "Blacks in the Bible" gives such illumination. There has been a conspiracy of silence concerning the presence of blacks in history particularly in biblical history. This book on biblical black history gives truth a voice with information that has always been readily available in your Holy Bible. Now, it has been mined, compiled, and organized here for the easy access of the common man. "Blacks in the Bible" is a work whose time has come. No longer can the place of blacks in Scripture be concealed, denied, or ignored.
Isn't it strange that in Cecil B. DeMille's movie "The Ten Commandments," depicting Moses leading the Jews out of North Africa there isn't one black person except the Ethiopians? The 1.5 to 3 million Jews who emerged from Africa after 430 years of bondage began when Joseph summoned 57 Jewish bachelors, plus their founding fathers of Israel, and two Jewish females making up the 70 souls of the total Jewish population in the world. (Gen. 46:8-27) These 57 Jewish males in North Africa married black females. These Jewish descendants of Jacob certainly did not marry Europeans in ancient Africa, called "the land of Ham." When Moses led these Jews out of Africa they later went to Europe and bred the melanin out of their skin. One can watch movies and documentaries about Egyptian, Hittite, and Canaanite civilizations wherein everyone is white, while in Scripture they were the descendants of the father of the black races, Ham.
This book shatters myths that have been generally accepted as truth. Cunningly devised fables have for centuries distorted and obscured what the Bible plainly sets forth in regards to people of color from the lineage of Ham, father of the black races. This book systemically removes such smokescreens and barriers by a critical analysis of the Scripture, using it as the ultimate authority. This book will give everyone a proper understanding regarding the historical teachings on race and racism. Jesus said, "You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free." From Genesis to the Revelation, "Blacks in the Bible" will increase your Bible knowledge, revolutionize your perception of well known Bible stories, and cause reading the Bible to be a whole new experience. The apostle Paul instructed Christ's followers to renounce dishonesty and not to walk in craftiness by "handling the Word of God deceitfully." Unfortunately, many pastors, popes, and great church leaders of old were guilty of "handling the Word of God deceitfully" in crafty dishonesty to endorse anti-Semitism and Western slavery by defending racism and promoting hate from the pulpit or with a burning cross. "Blacks in the Bible" is not a book written with craftiness to endorse black superiority, nor was it designed with guile to play on white guilt. It is truth that is documented in the authorized "King James Version of the Holy Bible" with its sacred genealogical charts to back it up. As we read this book we can start an open and honest dialogue in church and state about racism. May this book be an inspiration to all and let the dialogue begin.

ALL TIME FAVORITE!

This was my all-time favorite book as a child. It is a great book for beginning readers and a book to "play along" with. It is a simple book, but the illustrations for that time frame are very expressive. I still enjoy looking through it and remembering childhood days. I now read it to my nephew who is two, and it leaves him giggling, and repeating the words and actions for hours!
