Publisher's info:
This study concerns the late Renaissance metaphysics of light in its adoption to a Paracelsian alchemical context by John Dee, Heinrich Khunrath, Michael Maier and Robert Fludd. Their alchemical theosophy is contextualised within Protestant reformism of the 1590s to 1620s, specifically that of Valentin Weigel and Johannes Arndt. This results in a re-assessment of the Rosicrucian movement which challenges the existing historiography and problematises the character of the movement. The volume includes fifty illustrations from alchemical treatises of the period, the emphasis being placed on Khunrath's Amphiteatrum Sapientiae Aeternae (1595-1609). In an innovative manner, the study investigates these images using analytical tools drawn from semiotics, structuralism and post-structuralism. This method yields an unusual interpretation of the geometry, optical diagrams and spatial structures employed in such alchemical engravings.
Would interest those concerned with intellectual history, Renaissance theology and religious movements, the history of hermeticism, occultism and alchemy, as well as Renaissance art and science.

Bob Eggleton's artwork not only shows what an amazingly gifted artist he is but also demonstrates a breathtaking imagination. As the title of the book indicates, this is a book featuring paintings of alien landscapes, wonderful spacecraft and alien beings. It is hard to believe such detail has come purely from imagination and that these are not something the artist has seen in reality. With vibrant colours and perfection in even the minutest details these are pictures that a reader will want to look at time and time again. This is a wonderful book not only for fans of science fiction and fantasy but also for anyone who appreciates art.

This book, much like the original AVP art book, is perfect for anyone who finds the process of monster making fascinating as well as the movies they inhabit.
Very cool behind the scenes art, exposition, and photography illustrates the creative process that brought the creatures to life. A must for any fan of either series, or monster fans in general.

The "All Color Book of Cats" by Elizabeth Towe and Christine Metcalf is a collection of 100 illustrations in color. The poses are the type one would pose for the old tin type pictures. They sit there calmly looking out into space with that regal superior look. Most of the background is flowers and trees. Some of the little cuties turn out to be leopards.
The collection is well worth the price and makes a good coffee table book.

Art lovers around the world recall with delight Mucha's wonderful portraits of Sarah Bernhardt. Mucha single-handedly revolutionized French poster art at the turn of the century with art nouveau advertisements for Moet & Chandon, Job, Nestle's, Benedictine brandy and "the flower of the nineties"; Monaco Monte-Carlo.
Mucha's work was an inspiration to architects and designers who adapted his style of sinuous flowers and plant motifs for designing buildings and furniture. Mucha's harmonious designs, sensitive colors and superb draughtmanship have earned him the reputation as one of the outstanding and influencial graphic artists of Europe.
This stunning and colorful book is the most accurate record of Mucha's work available. Included are 163 full-color plates, some appearing here for the first time since their original publication. A complete catalogue section contains 525 detailed and illustrated entries and an extensive bibliography of books, periodicals and exhibition catalogues.
Marina Henderson's introduction, "Women and Flowers," and Dr. Anna Dvorak's epilogue, "Illustrations for Books and Periodicals," describe with insight Mucha's life, his achievements and his philosophy.

Krakowiak brings his remarkable subjects to life in image and text, striking artwork that depicts the color, texture, energy and stunning beauty of the wilds of Africa. A compilation of sketches, paintings and stories, the artist has created a valuable memoir, his prose accented with the powerful beasts who so define the Dark Continent, the lion, the cheetah, and the elephant who inhabit this vast land. Truly the last frontier, this wilderness stretches from the "Cape of Good Hope in the south to the Mediterranean in the north", the "world's largest desert... and its' most extensive rain forest".
Visiting game reserves that protect nearby marvelous, larger-than-life animals who roam their home with authority: "The endless cycle of life and death is everywhere repeated." Man is a puny force against predators who have roamed the earth with impunity, finally threatened by extinction and the random slaughter by poachers, who perpetrate the greatest travesty against nature, perhaps irrevocable and tragic for the future of the continent. In the utmost simplicity, artist vs. nature, Krakowiak explores this unique experience, a man who sees beauty all around him, the power, grace and temperament of Africa and its denizens, his creative energy infused with the colors, sights and sounds of a country at its grandest.
Finally, the author/artist offers suggestions for those who seek to follow his example, focusing on each particular artist's objective, assembling essential artist supplies, binoculars, the appropriate camera and a journal to record thoughts, ideas and inspirations. Judging from the quality of this coffee table book, both in image and text, Krakowiak has mastered his own point of perspective, the pictures a powerful testament to the subjects of outstanding work.
