Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!!! I am happy that I purchased this set of Mucha's postcards. It's a great piece for my collection of Art Nouveau. I don't even want to use them as postcards. I 'm gonna keep them for myself! The quality of paper is perfect - the finish is glossy, colors are vivid and deep. I just wish there were more pictures in the set. :)

These post cards are beautiful and the quality is great. I can't bring myself to tear them out of the book and actually mail them to anyone. I am going to have to order a second book so I can use them.

I was thrilled with the quality of the reproductions! I am using them in a project and they look marvelous. I would recommend this collection highly. Amazon was the first place I'd ever seen this and I have been in many book/gift stores before. This collection had many images that I'd never seen reproduced. The colors are truly sumptuous and "true." The collection includes Luchon, Zodiac, Cycles Perfecta, Lance Parfum 'Roda, 'Bleu Deschamps, Fruit, Moravian Teachers' Choir, Friendship, Sarah Bernhardt/La Plume, a few gorgeous ones which don't have names--and even more! There is a collection of Mucha postcards that were MADE as postcards--they are pretty. But these images come from the best of Mucha's posters. I thought they were a bargain at this price!

I ordered this as a wall calendar for my house. The quality is superb & despite it being hung in a bathroom, the calendar has yet to wilt or tear. The illustrations are bright & lovely.

"Alphonse Mucha's (1860-1939) poster for Sarah Bernhardt's 1894 production of Gismonda thrust the young Czechoslovakian painter into the forefront of the Art Nouveau movement--for the next five years he designed posters for nearly all Bernhardt's new productions, as well as posters for publisher F. Champenois and other clients. With their flowing design and subtle, sumptuous colors, Mucha's posters are among the most elegant products of the Art Nouveau era. This book of postcards presents thirty of his loveliest designs. 30 full-color reproductions.

"In December 1894, Alphonse Mucha (Czech, 1860-1939) created the definitive Art Nouveau masterpiece under considerable pressure: the formidable Sarah Bernhardt commissioned a poster for a play and gave Mucha less than a week to have it on the street. Not only did he succeed, but he executed his Gismonda poster in a completely new style, which was greeted with great enthusiasm. Famous overnight, Mucha worked prolifically in his self-invented genre; this calendar presents twelve of his stunning works. ¶ 12 x 13" wall calendar (opens to 12 x 26") with twelve full-color reproductions. ISBN: 0-7649-3086-9 . . . Related items available in Art Nouveau."--© Pomegranate

I purchased the similar calendar last year for 2006, and enjoyed the lovely artwork featured therein so much that, when it came time to buy a new calendar , I decided nothing would do to hang in it's place other than this 2007 version of same - which features different Mucha works, of course. This is one you will be happy to see hanging on your wall!

Not art quality prints or anything, But good quality posters with a generious buffer between the picture and the calander at the bottom. The only down side is that its a bit hard to figure out what day of the week a date is i.e its not formatted like most calendars. But if you are buying this you probably aren't buying it to write your appointments on anyway. Some of the colors are a bit duller that I would prefer, but I haven't seen art quality copies of originals to know which version brighter or duller more earthtone tinted are truer to the artists concept.

Art lovers around the world recall with delight Mucha's wonderful portraits of Sarah Bernhardt. Mucha single-handedly revolutionized French poster art at the turn of the century with art nouveau advertisements for Moet & Chandon, Job, Nestle's, Benedictine brandy and "the flower of the nineties"; Monaco Monte-Carlo.
Mucha's work was an inspiration to architects and designers who adapted his style of sinuous flowers and plant motifs for designing buildings and furniture. Mucha's harmonious designs, sensitive colors and superb draughtmanship have earned him the reputation as one of the outstanding and influencial graphic artists of Europe.
This stunning and colorful book is the most accurate record of Mucha's work available. Included are 163 full-color plates, some appearing here for the first time since their original publication. A complete catalogue section contains 525 detailed and illustrated entries and an extensive bibliography of books, periodicals and exhibition catalogues.
Marina Henderson's introduction, "Women and Flowers," and Dr. Anna Dvorak's epilogue, "Illustrations for Books and Periodicals," describe with insight Mucha's life, his achievements and his philosophy.

I actually don't own this book, the cost is preventative for me. But I studied with this book for all of the years I had access to it at the art school I attended. It is a beautiful, fairly comprehensive book that I am determined to purchase as soon as I can squeeze out the money from my student budget- it is well worth it! There are notes about each plate and in some cases other variations formerly in circulation. A must have for any art nouveau or Mucha lover!

"Art Nouveau Designs in Color" is a wonderful reprint of a portfolio first published in Paris around 1900. The book collects the graphic designs of Alphonse Mucha, Maurice Verneuil, and Georges Auriol.
The many colorful designs in the book contain a number of different motifs: flowers, peacock feathers, seahorses, birds, butterflies, various geometric creations, and other elements. These decorative designs are often playful, often elegant. Overall, a fascinating and delightful book.
