For an illustrator starting out, or one well-seasoned, this book offers so much inspiration and insight. Being in the art field is difficult enough, so having this great source of information is such an asset-It gives you an idea of what kind of work is out there, competition you are up against, and ideas on techniques and style. Although it isn't a "how to" book, the fact that it has thousands of pages of fellow illustrators and graphic designers best work is enough to make anyone learn something new from viewing it. I highly recommend this book as a tool for any illustrator or designer.

This cd is so much better than training yourself by reading book on the subject. The course is clear and easy. And the narrator's voice is not irritating at all. (he also doesn't make stupid jokes that some authors like to stick in their books to make them lengthier.

As a professional designer and instructor, I have to learn new applications all the time. These training CDs are the very best way to get up to production speed quickly. The QuickTime Movie tutorials make it easy to go back and review any lesson and skip around to the topics that interest me most. The Illustrator CD is a real winner - I highly recommend it!

It is not meant to be a teach-it-all book. The best thing about this book is that it summarises the work of 20 of the best Adobe Illustrators out there. Each illustrator has his/her own unique creativity style, which is highly inspirational! It also provides a list of these illustrators' personal websites, which the reader can check out for more sample work. Some of these websites also offer links to other illustrators not featured in this book. Their work is equally impressive.

When buying this book, I was not looking for a "teach me how" Illustrator book. There are many of those that you can purchase. The main goal when purchasing this book was to familiarize myself with the top Illustrator experts out there. Although, it's not the typical huge books you are accustomed to as a designer, it's worth buying IF you want to see the artistic creations from some of the best Adobe Illustrator Experts out there. Some experts show you how they designed their popular designs and advertisements. Check it out!

I have been buying this annual for more than 20 years now, and it never disappoints. This new format is better for several reason. Each image gets a full page (better viewing), which makes it a bigger book. There is also more info in it, aside from the images. It is smaller in page size by a few inches, which makes for easier storage and probably less postage. If you love art, or if you want to see your peers or mentors works in an incredible array of variety, this is the book you need!

I had read Wanda Gag's diary and became an admirer, Her early death terminated her artistic career, but I wanted to know more. It is difficult for me to explain the facination of Wanda's early life, growth, and accomplisjments in a review, but the book by Gwwnyth Swain does it very capably

Do you remember "Thoroughly Modern Millie," a 1967 musical that spoofed the 1920s? (It starred Julie Andrews & Carol Channing).
A person with similar verve, energy & motivation was the REAL-life artist Wanda Gag. Her personality and character are described in a delightful new biography by Gwenyth Swain. Wanda Gag was a truly mod young woman in the '20s. She had great artistic talent & personified much of what was fascinating about the jazz era.
Wanda's creativity & freedom of expression were encouraged by her father Anton whose roots were in Bohemia - eastern Europe. Growing up, she had what she called "drawing fits" - - we might say she went on a creative 'jag.' Her parents both died young. As the oldest of seven children, Wanda was forced to leave high school to earn money for the family's survival but used her talents in ingenious ways, and eventually returned to school and earned a scholarship for further art study in New York. There she styled her life in keeping with the times -- and her hair in a 'bob'. The cover photo illustrates Wanda Gag's appeal, and her very contemporary look.
Adolph Dehn also was a transplanted art student from Minnesota, and her close friend. He introduced Wanda to her future husband, Earle Humphreys. They began living together, owning a farm named "All Creation" in New Jersey. They eventually married when Wanda was 50 years old. (Three years later she died not knowing she had lung cancer: 1893-1946).
The research done by author Gwenyth Swain has greatly increased my appreciation of Wanda Gag. The book has a useful glossary & chronology, with several pages of "source notes" and a generous bibliography. (The index passed my personal test, also!) In a young people's book it is unusual to find so much extra material that helps to expand students' skills in note-taking & writing reports. Also included are many family photographs and reproductions of Wanda Gag's lithographs and sketches. It is not surprising to learn that Wanda loved words, and would take serendipitous journeys through the dictionary. "I always see other words which MAKE me look at them" she would say!
Congratulations to Borealis Press & the Minnesota Historical Society for making possible this excellent, thoughtful study of a favorite childhood author-artist. Wanda Gag's fame was secured with the 1928 publication of "MILLIONS OF CATS" - - doubtless a precursor of the Dr. Seuss style of writing for children. She continued to illustrate & publish many adaptations of the tales her grandparents shared during her childhood.
Wanda's last name is NOT to be rhymed with bag but AGOG, or as she emphatically insisted: "to rhyme with JOG, not BAG, please." Reviewer mcHAIKU recommends that readers follow where this book beckons us: to discover Wanda Gag country in New Ulm, Minnesota. Maybe we will be led to have creative fits of our own.

This is the second experience I've had with Adobe's Classroom in a Book series and it hasn't let me down yet. The book is divided up into several lessons and forces the reader to apply the methods as they go from chapter to chapter. This system helps the student retain the information much more effectively because it's interactive, unlike many software help manuals. The terminology is easy to pick up and the instructions are simple to follow. I highly recommend for anyone using the Adobe software!

Turns out there was so much more to adobe illustrator than I had realized. This book is beautifully written and I want to give the author a huge "Thank you" for writing such a great learning tool.
