Good Tips for Managing People

The book was the main text book in one of my MBA classes. The class taught how to deal with people in a variety of situations. The book is best used in this setting. A majority of the pages describe several role playing situations and there's also feedback forms on how you did. So it's nice to have someone to do the role plays with you. If you are just going to read the book, it gives a short synopsis of what you need to foucs on in each "tip".

Effective for building soft skills

This book ensures group interaction and discussions in any training situation. I first used this book in a business graduate course and I found the role plays very helpful. Unlike many other books I have used, these role plays are effective and don't make the students feel silly. Each chapter begins with a self-assessment exercise and end with a concise quiz and summary.

I used this book for class. The text is very well organized with bolded headings for each section in every chapter. Each chapter is broken down into easy to understand sections.

Has Some Great Education References but Hard to Find Topics in the Index
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2008-02-03
I kept this book because it has some great educational references that I will be able to use in my doctoral program, but I am currently writing an instructional design assessment paper & can't easily find any subject matter topics in the index. That makes for some real frustation. Would I buy the book again? Yes, because I will be able to use it for theory courses, but as a general reference text no.

Excellent resource for novice drummers!
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2006-07-13
For those who are beginning set players, this book is invaluable. Every page includes rhythm patterns that vary only slightly from one line to another. Thus, the pace is slow enough to allow beginners to become quite comfortable with one basic groove before learning another one. The book is quite comprehensive, covering virtually every drum groove imaginable. This resource is appropriate for beginners. Those more advanced set players will become bored with the repetition and should look for a method book that progresses more quickly from one pattern to another.

try different pedagogies
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 12 total.
Review Date: 2005-08-06
How to teach on the web? Driscoll advances several pedagogies that have been implemented in the real world. These may also be effective online. She encourages you to experiment. You should understand that there may be no answer best suited for all cases. So an empirical approach might help.

Interestingly, too, she discusses m-training or m-learning, where m stands for mobile. Cell phones. Here, some scepticism might be in order. Given the limited size of the screen and memory, and the rudimentary keypad. Along these lines, there have been startups that attempted to make software to control databases remotely from a cellphone, for example. These have met little success. The user interface is too constrained for all but the most limited interactions.

A Calculus Student's Recollections

Review Date: 1998-10-09
My teacher for Calculus II happened to be Stan Wagon (one of the contributors), so perhaps I am a bit biased- but, I thought that this book was an excellent introduction to both Mathematica and the foundations of advanced calculus; however, it is definitely not for everybody (advanced students would be teribly bored- this is my reason for not giving it the full five stars). "Animating Calculus" is defintely a worthy investment for beginning/intermediate calculus students who work with Mathematica as their CAS system.

Informative!
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2000-09-08
Apocalypticism in the Dead Sea Scrolls is well written and informative. The basic thesis in this book is the differing Apocalyptic views that prevailed during different periods of history, with the Dead Sea Scrolls being the main subject. I found this book interesting, and informative without criticism. There is also information in here as to the book of Enoch- very early beliefs. From there it goes to Dead Sea Scroll sects and the expectation of messiahs, the teacher of righteousness, rewards and punishments in the last Apocalyptic days. This author, John J. collins, wrote an excellent overview of similar but varying belief systems. He goes to show how history has affected and altered beliefs, but not completely! This book is well worth its price for anyone interested in Apocalypticism.

An excellent reference on basic meteorology as it relates to aviation
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2006-05-05
I have very much enjoyed reading this book by Terry Lankford. I find myself frequently opening this book for clarification on how forecasts and observations are used in real-world aviation/weather situations. Terry provides numerous examples from his years of experience as a weather specialist and flight instructor. His writing style is clear and concise. Obviously, he has a firm grasp of official standards adopted by the FAA, NWS, and WMO, but he presents the information in a manner that is much more enjoyable to read than most manuals on standards from either of these organizations. I highly recommend this well-written book for anyone interested in general meteorology, or for young pilots wishing to learn more about the impact weather will have on their chosen profession.

I recommend this book to people who are considering authoring computer based training programs using Macromedia's Authorware. I would like to have seen more dedication to the topic of what makes good computer based training, not how to use Authorware. I author computer based training modules using Aimtech's IconAuthor program

Roberson gives a lot of good information in a concise and easy to read manner. It is a good book for general information and reference, but it lacks the depth that I was looking for.
