Don Asmussen is brilliant in his depiction of life in such a liberal town as San Francisco. This book is dearly appreciated by San Franciscans but appeals to all people with a sense of humor.

I actually own the book

I bought this book (after about four months of scouring the internet and used bookstores for it) for one simple reason; I wanted to look into Trever Moore's childhood mind. I was introduced to Moore by watching "The Whitest Kids U Know" and decided he was a comedic genius. I wanted to see if his work as a kid reflected where he was headed.

The humor in this cartoon book is definitely adult humor. The comics are full of irony, shock value and wit and they're well drawn to boot. The humor is along the same lines as the Perry Bible Fellowship; unapologetically inappropriate, funny and enjoyable.

If you can find it; I'd recommend you get it. I paid quite a bit for mine.

I also found out after my copy arrived that it was actually signed by Moore. I didn't know about that when I bought it; just a pleasant surprise.

I would love to track down a copy of this book. Unfortunately, I can't wait 6 weeks.

I just saw an old rerun of the dating game and Trevor was one of the Bachelors. This dude had me laughing outloud. His humor was so quick and went so far over the bachelorette's head that she seemed scared. Hee hee. I loved the line about Michael Jackson and Anne Heche.

We demand "Moore" Trevor Moore!

With Kafka-esque absurdities and logical paradoxes that seem to jump right out of the mind of Sartre, young Trevor Moore has topped himself with "Scraps", a book of devilishly drawn cartoons which speak not to the conscious but the unconscious, climbing in and assaulting your brain like a punching bag, mercilessly hurling joke after joke, irony after irony, contradiction after contradiction, contraceptive after contraceptive, these cartoons act not as a reactor but as an -actor, shocking you into accepting the many hidden truths of life, but not just life, but the universe, heaven and hell (oh most CERTAINLY Hell), and everything in between, that is to say, "Scraps" is a cute and often pretty funny book of cartoons by a 12 year old kid with a surprisingly black sense of humor (i.e. morbid, not "Martin Lawrence" black), and if you buy it you'll probably like looking through it.

Garfield Redux

America's favorite lazy, fat-cat is back. And, as always, he's sleeping.

It's fun to sit back, read, and take a stroll down memory lane with some of the characters we haven't seen in a while in the recent strips. There's Lyman (Odie's master), Arlene (Garfield's sometime girlfriend), Nermal (the world's cutese kitten), and the veterinarian (the only human being to go out with Jon more than once).

"The Second Garfield Treasury" is a collection of Sunday comic strips from July 1980 through August 1982. In this collection you will see the evolution of the drawing of the characters into what we see today.

So make a pan of lasagna, sit back, and watch everyone's favorite cat gulp it down right before your eyes.

After the success of The Garfield treasury, a sort of sequel book was inevitable. So, this is The Second Garfield Treasury. While not quite as good as the original, this book dishes up on plenty of laughs, with Garfield kicking, eating and sleeping through his kitty-life (he finds time to get locked in a dog pound, however), but making sure to never forget to joke.

Recommended.

This has got to be the best treasury yet.

These fish are funny

Review Date: 2004-07-09
These are not your typical cuddly cartoon characters. Sharks eat other fish--and people--with regularity. (The fish refer to people as "hairless beach apes.") But they carry on like people most of the time: ordering from catalogs (Sharker Image), watching TV, taking trips to exotic (for them) places. The guy who writes this has a really funny turn of mind, and each character has a well-developed personality. Take a look at the current strips at www.slagoon.com if you want.

Tickle your senses!

Review Date: 2003-08-22
Once in a blue moon there comes a cartoonist and character that just tickles every part of your senses. This does not happen very often in this genre as the talent to illustrate, deliver the punch line, maintain a sense of civility and not insult the reader's intelligence has to be done all at the same time. Calvin and Hobbes was one. Sherman's gang is another. Enjoy this before this gets shelved forever into the museum of pure intelligent humor. Did I say intelligent?

I recently found this book on the internet. I did not even know that this book existed. I thought about buying it. For what seemed like decades, I thought about buying it. Then I decided not to buy it. Based on what I saw of the cover, I thought this book was by far the best book I have ever read. I think the author had his neck screwed on correctly while writing this book. I was thoughly impressed with the subject. The only thing that left anything to be desired was of course the amount of junk on the website. Still. . .

The Best of Simpsons Comics!
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2002-11-30
I have a dozen Simpsons comic books and Wingding is my favorite! Every comic is a hit and it starts off with the best Simpsons comic ever: "Don't Cry for Me Jebediah." Bart has to do a school essay on the town founder. For once, Bart is motivated due to the prize for the top paper: a year's supply of Squishees (Mrs. Krabapal made out with Apu to get this prize). Unable to find a new, exciting angle, Bart decides to create his own by hooking up an apparatus to make the Jebediah Springfield statue in the middle of town appear to cry. The media circus kicks into high gear! Town square becomes a haven for opportunistic vendors including Moe's "tear beer", Ned Flanders' "shroud of Jebediah" hankies, and Homer's "tear in a cube." Bart can almost taste those free Squishees!

"The Artist Formerly Known as Bart": The teen heartthrob of the month is touring his way through Springfield. His name is Biff Westwood and he looks remarkably like Bart (why Lisa would have the hots for a kid who looks like her brother's twin is cause for further examination, but back to the summary...). Biff wants to spend a day as a normal kid while Bart is always attracted to the wild side of life. What if...

"Stand and Deliverance": Bart is busted for using Principal Skinner's credit card to start a "School Shopping Network." His punishment is a "back to basics" camping trip led by Groundskeeper Willie. Curiously, the only other camper is do-gooder Martin Prince (maybe that's the real punishment). In one funny scene, Otto swerves his bus to avoid a raccoon ("I wouldn't wanna upset the balance of nature") only to start a forest fire in the process killing the raccoon from smoke inhalation. On vacation, Sideshow Mel is found snorkeling and is abruptly sucked up by the park's airplane and dumped onto the fire (I've heard of this actually happening before).

"Little Big Mart": Apu and Mr. Burns go into cahoots to start a Mega Kwik-E-Super Store. Mr. Burns was impressed with Apu's business skills which include watering down the Squishee machine.

"Bart De Triomphe": Bart finagles himself the grand prize in a Krusty Kroissants Kontest-A trip to Paris where he meets up with the two con-men from the TV episode "Crapes of Wrath" (breaking out of jail after being convicted of tainting wine with anti-freeze) and Sideshow Bob.

"Citizen Shame": A comic from Reverend Lovejoy's Hellfire Comics ("God's favorite comic book"). The Rev. explains how a good boy can go bad. The funniest part is that Bart writes sarcastic comments throughout the comic!

Our little one LOVES Snoopy so when I saw this at a discounted price, I grabbed it. Well, it's the definite favorite in the house and gets read nightly at least once if not more. I have always loved Snoopy and his Red Baron adventures, how that doghouse gets shot up every time and Snoopy has to bail and lands in his dog dish. This time, the round-headed kid is a spy and gets a rock tossed at him, only for it to land in the full supper dish and Charlie Brown winds up with canned dog food all over his face. Lucy tries to get Snoopy to get a real job but he thinks his job is to get the Red Baron.

All-in-all, the book is sorta sketchy story-wise and ends on an odd note. Snoopy gets rained on and climbs into bed with Charlie Brown and smells like "a wet pilot." It just didn't really have a conclusion. Did Snoopy get the Baron or did he get away again? I would have liked to see more story continuation in this book. It is a book for young readers but it also needs to teach continuation as well. I think the ending could have been a little more conclusive but other than that, it's really a great book. Highly recommend!

In an age when everyone is overly concerned with being "politically correct" and the majority of us tend to take ourselves much too seriously, Gary Fink has given us all a refreshing, hilarious and liberating look at the wonderful world of being Jewish. His sense of humor is "right on target" ,(brutally honest)and the full-page, vibrantly-colored cartoons are truly suitable for framing! The quality of this cartoon book is outstanding... I will be giving this book to all of my Jewish friends and clients for Chanukah.

Some of My Best Friends are Jewish is a delightful cartoon book that shows us the lighter side of being Jewish. Sure, many of the jokes are corny, but that's actually half the fun. These days, when too many people are trying to take away our individuality, it's nice to see someone like Gary Fink poke fun at ourselves. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to enjoy a good laugh

I loved reading this book while I was going through my first pregnancy, even though mine was achieved in a more orthodox manner than Toni's :-) I hope my next time goes as smoothly as Rafael's birth. I think this book had a very accurate and suspenseful portrayal of pregnancy, and Clarice's stress was not stereotyped as the classic "nervous father"

There's no single theme to Speed Bump: Cartoons For Idea People, no basic philosophy - but his 'outtakes' appear in over 200 newspapers around the country and Speed Bump is a fine survey which gathers these into themed chapters, includes the author's introduction to each, and even presents a small portion of color cartoons with the black and white winners. Dave Coverly is funny and pointed: Speed Bump is running in its 10th year and has been nominated for numerous awards, so place this book at the top of the list.

Dave Coverly's quirky sense of humor and drawing skills combine to create a book that is hard to put down until you have read every one of the cartoons. In fact I didn't put it down until I had completed it and had to keep sharing individual cartoons with others as I went along. A joy to read and sure to put a smile on your face, Speed Bump is highly recommended humor.
