Hilarious dialogue only adds to the mayhem. It's apparent that M&C take their mission, to destroy all idiots, very seriously. The question is: how can Evan Dorkin take essentially the same storyline and make it entertaining over and over again? Believe me, he does it VERY well, and the little comments and asides add immeasurably to the fun. I would prefer to give this 9 of 10, so please forgive the 4.
Now if only he'd start collecting DORK in trade editions. I need more!

I CAN'T STAND APRIL!Review Date: 2000-11-27
April is very babyish for her age. She wears these stupid overalls and says "gots," which sounds just plain stupid. She never helps around the house and she asks for trouble. Don't forget, it was Bratface April who came up with that mean song about Jeremy. She's no innocent bystander. She is trouble with a capital TROUBLE and, like another reviewer aptly noted, head for the hills and don't look back once she hits the terrible teens. I can't abide April!

Dennis The Menace is not for kids...Review Date: 2008-04-03
Well this set is marvelous. I buy ONLY the box sets (Peanuts is the other series I'm collecting right now) and this is like any other Fantagraphics box set. The slipcase is what you'd expect.
The image implies the book is larger than it actually is. This may well be because of the close up shot, so do pay attention to the book dimensions, if that is a consideration for you. However, each page contains one panel, in a very easy to read size. The book also comes with a fabric book mark. You need it, because you can't read through all of it in one go... and one misses bookmarks in huge collections like The Complete Far Side 1980-1994 (2 vol set).
The dust cover / sleeves on is uncoated paper unlike in the Peanuts collection, so a bit of care needs to be taken when removing and handling the books. The binding is stitched, so you can expect longevity over multiple readings.
On the whole it is a recommended purchase.

Single Panel GeniusReview Date: 2008-01-22
Dennis is a Five Year Old, Ball of Fire, that is the Star of these tales of Family Life of the 1950's. And he shows a broad range of emotions as any small boy can. He was an Adventurer, armed only with a Slingshot for protection and a Scruffy Dog named "Ruff" by his side. He loved to play in the mud and was not fond of the Bathtub. He went to Church, got Haircuts at the Barber Shop and liked to climb trees. And I wanted into his World because it looked like Quite a Cool place to hang out in!
The Style of Hank Ketcham's, Pen Lines are Amazing. His Art look's so Simple in it's approach, but it is very Complex in form with lot's of Dark and Light mixed together so perfectly. Ketcham was an Master Draftsman, and the Success of Dennis the Menace, owes as much to his Graphics as it does to his excellent writing abilities. This was the first Comic that reeled me in as a Small Boy in the early Sixties, and it is still a Favorite of mine Today. Along with: "Peanuts", this Wonderful Comic DID change the entire Medium of Comics into what it is Today.
Most People remember the TV Show and the Movies that are based on Dennis Mitchell. For those of you that grew up with these Fantasic One Panel Gems, it will spark some Great Memories to see these Comics once again. And for you Folks that have not, you have missed out on a Wonderful Graphic Masterpiece. This is One of the Best and most important Comics of the Last 50 Years, and that's it in an Nutshell. Don't miss out this Time around, here they are in all their Glory...The Cartoons of: "Dennis The Menace"...FIVE STARS !!!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR KIDS AND TEACHERSReview Date: 2007-12-13
If you want your child to grow in the Lord by studying His Word and to also keep their interest in the Word, then I Highly recommend this book. It is also a great tool for witnessing to children. Kids will tell other children about this book because it is exciting and it is word for word with pictures to help explain the text even more. The author doesn't drift off with his own theology. He sticks to the Word of God. So your child will be getting the raw milk, meat, bread, and honey of the Word.
By reading this Illustrated Bible, your child will grow leaps and bounds ahead of other children. He or she will be able to answer biblical questions that will even surprise adults. My children can't put it down. Isn't it a good problem when you have to make your children put the Bible down to go to bed or eat dinner and so on? Well that is what this Bible will bring into the lives of your children.
I also highly recommend the Illustrated New Testament to Sunday School teachers. I guarantee your class will love it.
I'm going to tell you a secret, I enjoy reading it too. Don't tell anybody. Smile. I, as an adult can't wait to turn it to the next page to look at the pictures as well as read the Word. What an exciting Bible.

This treasury collection also shows the final morphing by creator Jim Davis of Garfield and his friends into what we see today in the comic strips.
