This book contains full page cartoons of a slightly mischievous altar boy who innocently or otherwise gets into one scrape after another. It is good clean old-fashioned fun that the whole family can enjoy. My children loved it.

Perverse reflections on difficulties of present day life

Enthusiastically recommended for fans of the editorial cartoon, Stahler: Inkslinger is a black-and-white collection of cutting-edge editorial cartoons by Jeff Stahler. From visually likening the 2000-2001 school classroom to packing kids in a sardine can; to comparing Tolstoy's thick classic "War and Peace" to a hypothetical yet outrageously gigantic book rendition of "Mideast War and Peace"; to an unfortunate driver who has just crashed his car into another automobile speaking into his cell phone and asking "Can you hear me now?", the crisp and satirical cartoons of Stahler: Inkslinger command the reader's complete attention with their keen irony -- as well as their somber to perverse reflections on difficulties of present day life.

More great Harris comics

Sidney Harris offers that rare treat: thoughtful, well-informed humor. This time he aims his barbs at the medical profession. His one-panel drawings cover the whole range, from surgery and office practice to psychiatry and research. If you really want to know what the mice and microbes think, let Harris be your interpreter.
The end of the book came way too soon. That just means that I have to find more of his books - and don't ask to borrow mine. I keep coming back to them, and enjoying them all over again.

McPherson's funniest Close To Home collection ever! I am a big fan of his panel and I read it every single day in my newspaper. I don't want to spoil anything for you guys who love cliffhangers, so I'll just give one example of a panel: There are two woman in the kitchen, and one wall has a bunch of crossword puzzle clues written on it, and on the floor there is a crossword puzzle!! And in the corner is a huge pencil! And this woman is saying to the other: "This is what I get for marrying a crossword puzzle fanatic." And if you think THAT'S funny, you should read the rest! A must-buy!!!

What a great comic strip this was! It always gave me quite a chuckle, and still does through the books, Suburban Cowgirls (the book), and A Fistful of Credit Cards (the book). Guess the two creators of this strip had bigger fish to fry. It was certainly great while it lasted. I ordered these books used and gave them as Christmas presents.

Nearly 40% of the US population goes to worship on any given Saturday or Sunday, so why not take a humorous look at this weekly ritual. Jay Sidebotham's light hearted spin and behind the pulpit humor is a must read. His wonderfully composed cartoons come to life with his humor. Jay was at one time the Schoolhouse Rock cartoonist perhaps we should now call him the Churchhouse Rock cartoonist. Quick somebody call ABC, we have a show here...

Good cartoon collection

This is a book collection of editorial cartoons drawn by conservative Scott Stantis (who also draws a politically-oriented "Prickly City" comic-strip for Universal Press). This book has three sections: Pages 4 and 5 is an "introduction" drawn by Scott about how he became a cartoonist. Pages 6 to 135 is national politics according to Scott (which covers the last four years of the Clinton presidency to the 2000 election), and pages 136 to 205 covers politics in Alabama, Scott's home state.
I bought my copy at a bookstore in Nashville TN, and it worth looking into if you get it. Stantis is probably one of the better mainstream political cartoonists and I'd say that's a rare find.
The cartoons itself is good. Sadly, the book could use a better presentation. For starters, the order the cartoons ran are in backwards. A cartoon published in 1996 is at the last page, while the most recent cartoon (2000), is in the first. So you're literally looking backwards through time.
Also, the cartoon on page 10 is blurry. It looks like they used a low quality copy of the cartoon, so it's pretty bad looking.
Keep in mind that this book was published by the Birmingham News (newspaper Scott draws cartoons for) and not by a professional publisher, so there are flaws to think about.
Despite the goof ups I mentioned, it's an okay retrospective for one of the better conservative cartoonists around, so if you somehow find it, I'd say go for it.

Tami Knight used to be the Great Secret of Canadian Mountaineering Journalism. The only places you could find her gut-busting cartoons were the Canadian Alpine Journal. Now, you lucky people have to opportunity to read about all the foibles of climbers and mountaineers and cavers (there's a difference? You bet!). Get this book and read it, else you will not experience true inner peace.

I purchased this little book for my brother and his wife, as they became parents for the first time! It's small enough to fit in with the card to celebrate the arrival of my niece - a perfect little gift.
It is such a joyful read - words and pictures - you can pick anywhere in the book and identify with life's very first ordinary delights and pitfalls!
It covers four tiny chapters: Principles - Relationships and Communication - Self Control - Wisdom. I laughed aloud through all of them!
The author, Claire Nielson and Illustrator, Chris Riddell have combined efforts very successfully!
