This too is aviation art! Hank Caruso reaches deep inside each machine to uncover the personality of THAT airplane. He then cartoons it as no one else can do, and brings it to life. Hank's descriptions of the culture and lingo of naval aviation are as funny as the drawings. If you like this book, you'll probably want to buy his annual cartoon calendars too. J. Campbell Martin

Never have we known Schultz to be so prescient as he is in this book from the 1960's. As we yearn for a simpler time when security does not mean taking off your shoes in airports, Schultz gives us simple, cogent heart warming snapshots of life from a simpler time as a reminder of what may yet come.

A good cartoon touches us through words and images. Donnelly is a master and in this volume we are treated to her work and that of some the best women cartoonists we have in our midst at them moment. The rapier wit of their wisdom hits the target almost everytime. We see ourselves and others all the more clearly.
Hats off.
Hats off.

As a long-ago low-level competitor, and still a follower of eventing and showjumping, I found this small volume just perfect. So seldom do you see competitions from the *horse's* point of view... and never as honestly, or honestly skewed, as this. "Show..." was my first introduction to Wiley, and I've been an avid fan ever since. (This volume may be hard to find, as it was first published 21 years ago.)

Fine writing and furry painting

M.Poncelet's "aristochiens" are hilarious and skillfully and, yes, artistically well done. There are about 70 paintings shown in the book and is a delight. But the diamond-studded collar on this book is the wonderfully creative writing by Bruce McCall. His little vignettes on the subject of each painting are a falling down delight. A grand sense of humor and an even grander sense of history and literary styles of the past make his contribution to this book a true masterpiece. While dog lovers will appreciate the book, even lowly cat people will enjoy the wit, style and imagination of Sit!: The Dog Portraits of Thierry Poncelet. Move over Poirot; Belgium has a new and better representative!

Great history that kids read! My 8 year old loves these books.

Boyd's Chester the Crab Comics are solid history that appeals to young readers. The timeline and bright, comic format make the books easy to read and Chester, the wise and wise-cracking crab is the guide through visits to each time and place in the past. But don't let the format fool you, even topics like slavery in Slavery's Storm are given complexity. Boyd does not shy away from painful parts of the American past and young readers feel like they are taken seriously when they are presented with the details that make history full of contradictions. My 8 year old son asks for these books.

This is the first Pat Oliphant book I have read and I love his style. He takes no prisoners in his assault. Not the FBI, not the Pentagon, not Arab/Israel relations. I love his wit.

The humor in this book is similar. the book is a series of short biographies, just a sentence or two, about different scottish terriers accompanied with a drawing of them. I think perhaps the best description of both this book and its author's sense of humor are given by a word in the title-- eccentric.
In closing, I found this book to be extremely funny. Anyone who is into a quirky, off the wall sense of humor, or who knows and loves the Pitts, should definately buy this book.
