This book is extremely funny. And oh so topical.
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.

IN an age when cartoonists seem to always chasing pulbic opinion, Wuerker sticks to his leftist guns, with elaborately-drawn attacks on a wide range of characters who richly deserve ot be skewered. A nice way to annoy your right-wing friends. A great xmas gift.

"Meet Luann" is such a cute little book! A must for fans of this comic strip, and for those, like me, who did not get a chance to read this comic strip when it first came out. I recommend.

This compilation includes the work of many of the best Canadian cartoonists, such as Aislin, Bierman and Rosen. The subject - impending work destruction is serious, but at least you may be able to laugh at the stupidity of mankind (or Homo Politicus).

La Cucaracha!
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2004-11-27
I highly recommend that any person interested in politics and Latinos take a look at Migra Mouse, a collection of editorial cartoons by Lalo Alcaraz, the artist behind the daily comic strip La Cucaracha. The cartoons cover politics from the last decade with an emphasis on Latinos and immigration. Alcaraz has a simple but effective drawing style that says more with a few pen strokes than a political pundit with a book contract. Alcaraz is one of the sharpest political cartoonists around today. By the way, I'm Anglo and I don't always agree with Mr. Alcaraz's point of view, but I'm here to say that regardless of your skin tone, political bent, or favorite flavor of Christmas tamale, you shouldn't ignore this wonderful cartoonist.

Distinctive Doggies
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 2000-06-26
Van Amerongen's dogs tend to fall into one of two general categories. Some are the long-suffering and patient companions of decidedly eccentric owners who dress them up, involve them in odd rituals, and generally make life difficult. Others are just as eccentric, if not more so, than their owners. Both types are definitely funny. Fans of van Amerongen's humor will welcome this collection, although some of the cartoons included here also appeared in his recent collection "Ballard Street." (There is, however, enough new material to warrant buying this book.) Dog lovers with a healthy sense of the absurd will also want to get this book. Lots of fun.

One of the few lighter sides among the many dark sides of corporate malfeasance
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2007-12-05
This collection of cartoons will forever describe much of the business world, the self-serving nature and outright greed. By far, my favorite cartoon is on page 82 and is a scene in a prison. One inmate is signing autographs and the caption is "There's one clever man, he managed to lose almost a billion dollars before they caught him." Given the current stories about malfeasance in corporate America, a billion dollars is now on the low end.
If you are feeling frustrated with the state of business affairs, one thing that may help will be to read this book. It probably won't take your mind off the problems, but a humorous approach will certainly make the burden less difficult to bear.

English translation of wacky French comic genius
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2006-01-28
Claire Bretecher is a brilliant comic book artist with a wacky, off-color sense of humor. I don't know how this English translation holds up to the French original or whether it works as a paperback. I've only read the hard-back version. But if you don't speak French, this is your best chance at reading some of Bretecher's funniest work yet! Ostensibly writing about pregnancy -- which she jokes about with wickedly accurate precision -- she also lampoons political correctness, feminism, slackers, pretentiousness and much, much more. Be forewarned: lots of ribald jokes, naughty language & squiggly (usually) unflattering drawings of naked bodies. But really, it's just good, silly, off-color fun. Guaranteed to have you in stitches. I always give this as a gift to ALL my pregnant friends! But it's also funny for non-pregnant people too...

I laugh out loud
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2000-05-02
I'm a fan of many cartoonists, but none make me laugh out loud as often as John McPherson's panels. His humor in this book reminds me of Gary Larson, but connects more closely to everyday life. He sees the humor in reality so that he only occasionally has to twist it.
