Just one review to this gem of a book so far? I can't believe it!
I loved it from beginning to end. Each time I feel I'm the only one suffering from corporatitis, I read it again and enjoy either the absolutely hilarious text and the funniest possible illustrations. Highy recommendable.
Now I'm glad that there are at least two good reviews... it deserves more!

The Sad Thing Is That I Have Worked at Companies Like This

Think of this as an 80s Dilbert. It's pre-cube and pre-Internet, but very, very funny. From the bumbling boss (Scott Adams did not create the Pointy Haired Boss) to the yuppie project manager in the business suit and heels, this book is full of familiar characters. I swear one of my bosses modeled for the manager, right down to the hairstyle.

From office morale to team building weekends to the war against the photocopier to corporate policy on stress management (I still giggle hysterically at some of those cartoons) this book is perfect for anyone who sometimes needs to see the funnier side of work.

By the way, this makes a great gift for a coworker moving on to greener pastures.

Not much to read here, but your mind will have one hell of a workout! Steve must be channeling the creative gods. You'll have some of the best belly laughs you'll ever have with this funny book. And at the same time, it also creates one of the most thought provoking experiences your brain could ever have. I keep it as a coffee table book, and grab it whenever I need a brain pick-me-up. I think Steve has one of the most innovative minds of our time. If you want to give anyone a good gift, this is it.

Bill Berger is demented. A well regarded South Florida trial lawyer has written one of the funniest and bizarre send-offs on the legal profession ever! What to do with a dead tobacco lawyer? An ashtray would be nice? Written with wicked wit and drawn by Ricardo Martinez with a savage pen, this is the perfect gift for any lawyer with a good sense of humor, legal secretary or anyone unfavorably disposed to "the noble barrister."

Collection of Political Cartoons that mocks Lawyers

Review Date: 2000-02-27
This book starts out with a famous phrase from King Henry VIII of England about lawyers which is " First Thing We Do is kill all the lawyers ". The book is a side splitting collection of political cartoons about that to do with all the bodies after we kill all of them as King Henry VIII says. It will make you laugh so hard you will think that you are hurting yourself ! If you are totaly happy with the present legal situation in the world and especially in the USA you won't find this book funny. If not get ready to laugh !

So much of this book is actually true. Don't let the fact that is is a cartoon book fool you, this is not a book for the kids. Repeat not for kids.

Groovy Paddling Satire Sequel
Helpful Votes: 7 out of 8 total.
Review Date: 2000-10-24
You must be a paddler (or at least paddled once) to appreciate William Nealy's zany little collection of humorous sketches and creative cartoons. This collection includes unsolicited advice on paddling, epic adventures, another parody of outdoor equipment advertisements (S&M River Supplies), the "S&M Campfire Songbook" featuring the lyrics to "my Boat" (set to the music of "my Guy") and a host of other funny little penned paddling sketches and comics which, most likely, came right out of Nealy's river sketchbook.

It's a groovy little book and another cool thing to pass around on camping/paddling trips to get some laughs by the campfire.

Wonderful Gift For Cat Fans

Review Date: 2004-02-17
This book is very similar to 101 Reasons Why a Cat Is Better Than a Man by Allia Zobel. In this book, there are way more than 101 reasons. Cats really do make the perfect companion. Cats like to snuggle, they understand our moods, they don't tell you to get off the phone, they have cute feet, they don't wear toilet paper on their face and my personal favorite: Cats don't always have an alterior motive when they rub up against you.

as a Brit, and not an American, may i simply, with classic British understatement, say that I consider Tim Kreider to be like William Blake, Lenny Bruce, Bill Hicks and Noam Chomsky - only better. Everyone I know is getting this book off me for Xmas.

My new favorite political cartoonist

I am amazed this collection doesn't have like 200 reviews praising it... and likewise 200 from right-wingers and other fundamentalists trashing it... this is an amazing collection. Most spreads have the cartoon on the right page, with the author's commentary on the left... tells you when it was drawn, where he got the ideas, and more detail into the ideas. Or, sometimes he's just being bloody funny.. and this guy is!

Like Rall, Tomorrow, Fisgon, Crumb? You'll love Kreider's take on our current troubled times.

Review Date: 2004-01-11
I already had Jennifer Berman's 'Why Dogs Are Better Than Men' and when I saw this one, I had to get it. This book had me laughing so hard. She's very impartial like her last book. The book is divided into 3 parts - 1. Why Dogs Are Better Than Kids 2. Why Kids Are Better Than Dogs and 3. How Dogs and Kids Are The Same. We've got our dogs and in reading this book, I just kept looking at them and saying 'Exactly!'.

If you've got four-footed kids or want to know why there are those of us with four-footed kids, you have to pick up this book. Amazon has this book under their Search Inside feature - take a look. You'll be glad you did :)

A fun book for people who have dogs, kids or both!

To be honest, I almost did not buy this book because I felt someone might think I had something against kids. What a fun, pleasant surprise. The drawings and comparisons are funny and true to life. There are 3 parts to the book that the title does not allude to. The first part is Why Dogs are Better than Kids, the second part is Why Dogs and Kids are the Same, and the third part is Why Kids are Better than Dogs. It is a light hearted look at life. Something I think all people need from time to time.

Excellent and Fascinating
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2005-09-07
This is a concise and extremely well written summary of Hogarth and his times, containing many insights into 18th century cultural history. This was a time in which social critics and "self-help" authors were beginning to take over some of the authority formerly held by the church on moral issues, and Hogarth was in the vanguard of those attempting to illustrate how personal liberty if unchecked by good behavior could descend into licentiousness and ruin. Among other interesting topics covered are Hogarth's feelings about the British class system (having risen from modest origins through an apprenticeship as a silver engraver to fame and fortune as an artist and printmaker), his sympathy for the lower classes, and his antipathy to the artistic establishment which overvalued trite and derivative Continental art on religious and mythological themes.

Excellent!

This is a fascinating, well-written and well-researched look at William Hogarth's art, life and ideas. It is arranged thematically rather than chronologically, and includes nice reproductions of a sampling of Hogarth's work (although the sizes of some of the images are small). The author includes a very refreshing common sense in his interpretations of Hogarth's motives, with a good, clear understanding of the 18th-Century British context in which Hogarth lived and worked.

The continuing story of Wind in the Willows

Review Date: 2007-03-09
Although this story has been in print for many years, and the video commonly available, this fresh insight on a story of a group of friends who try to save one of their own from his own weaknesses is truely charming. This graphic novel reads like a screenplay with interesting angles and perspective on the characters, scenery, and actions. The delicate color palette used to evoke the seasons in the wood, the rich colors of the mansions and halls, and the mood of the scenes adds to the visual enrichment. Although this is not a word-for-word renditon of the original story it reads with a "feel of the essence of the book".

excellent, must see

Review Date: 2000-08-15
This hefty chunk of book is a career spanning selection of cartoons and doodles from the bizarre pen of William Steig. Plenty of these illustrations and gag cartoons first appeared in the New Yorker. All of them are fantastic. Any individual page in this one should be enough to convince any sensible person that he is among the best of the New Yorker artists, his only competition is Saul Steinberg. Other good points: John Updike introduction and good biographical information by Lee Lorenz. Swooning lovers, expressive animals, fairy tales, anxiety. See also: Abel's Island, Sylvester and the Magic Pebble, the Steig Album. Seth's It's a Good Life if You Don't Weaken is a great comic book with deep influence from the New Yorker. Choice.
