I ordered this out of the blue because of my love for animals and a dream to be like Dr. Doolittle. After listening to Carol I believe with all my heart that communication is possible. I highly reccomend this to anyone with love and an open heart. You won't be able to stop smiling or to turn it off.

It works!

This is an excellent book, but I admit, I initially did not believe I would ever get results. I still need to work more on perfecting my communication skills, but this really does work! Also, just her stories of communicating with various animals are very interesting.

Organized to "reach" you.

This CD is very well thought out. Carol Gurney puts the information you need to know, in the order that makes the most sense. I have listen to other's ideas on the subject without success, but she reached me. I always had a difficult time meditating, or deliberately calming my mind down. She brought to light that I am relaxing my mind when I do needlework - my form of meditation, something I enjoy. I "hang up the busy phone" in my mind, in her own words, when I do needlework. This concept alone has raised my confidence level and enabled me to start communicating with my animals. I recommend this CD to all pet owners interested in the subject.

Great, Relevant Book on Cultures

I am very impressed with Lane's book. I had to get it as a required text for one of my classes, which sometimes end up being REALLY awful books to read. However, I enjoyed reading the text and found it easy to come to class prepared to share in lectures along with what the book had to say. Since I am going into missions as a career, this definitely gave me insight to what to expect and how to navigate the cultural divide I may encounter. It was a very relevant book that didn't make me suffer to figure out what it meant. GREAT BOOK!

I have been in a dozen intercultural classes in college and graduate level and I would recommend this book for anyone with cultural questions. There are practical questions at the end of each chapter that actually make the reader think and research in their own situation. There is a wide variety of examples used and the book serves as a helpful guide for intercultural interaction. It is easy to read and fun to see how I "should have" related and will in the future.

There are many reasons for enjoying this book and for rating it so high. The instructions are easy to follow with wonderful illistrations and pictures with several patterns. It is well written with instructions on how to do each one.The author also gives you a brief but interesting history on theses boxes and her interpretation of them. In my opinion even if you never made one of these boxes the book is a work of art.

great pinhole book for the beginner or teacher
Helpful Votes: 15 out of 15 total.
Review Date: 2002-01-09
This is a wonderful introductory text to the world of pinhole photography; Mr. Shull is very clear, and provides easy to follow instructions and diagrams for creating simple pinhole cameras and printing the resultant images. His instructions are well-laid enough for even a photographic novice to use this books as a teaching text, for example for children, as a good science project for understanding light and/or basic photography.

He keeps it simple enough that experienced pinholers will want to look elsewhere for detailed technical information or designs to push the edges of pinhole practice, but this is also the book's strength as a beginner's guide. Strongly recommended.

Excellent reference for fotografers and teachers

Jim Shull's second book is an expanded version of the first, 'The Hole Thing', which inspired me to pursue pinhole photography. The new version includes more information and fotografs. Just as the first book, it differentiates between photography and fotografy.

In his folksy, non-technical style, Jim Shull explains the ins and outs of pinhole fotografy. Where technical information must be given, he does so in a very accessible manner. His guide contains essential information enabling beginners to construct and use pinhole cameras. It also shows the minimal equipment needed to process your on pictures and guides you through each step on how to do it.

Many teachers will find Jim's guide an excellent reference.

Thanks Jim! Excellent book!

This book is a delight. Proper balance between technical acuracy and enjoyable reading. Highly recommended for first time adventures into pinhole photography. True beginners might appreciate a bit more detail in the construction of the three camera types but exploration is part of the fun. I should think the book highly suitable for younger readers especially. My daughter-in-law who is the photographer of the family managed a wonderful array of spectacular pictures using this book as a guide. Since I handicrafted her wooden pinhole camera, I also am pleased with the fact the the thing worked and that her pictures were so beautiful.

Beautiful Updated Marseilles Starter Deck
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2005-08-24
This is an exellent beginner's Tarot deck(but not just for beginners!) to give or receive yourself. The cards are updated, computer graphic designed images based on the ancient and classic "Marseilles" deck, with a blended, old but modern feel to them. The computer graphics add new color shading/depth & the figures cast shadows- the blue skies feature wispy, white clouds. Only the Minor Arcana cards are not Marseilles type, but based on original or other tarot art. Still a great basic deck that could be used as well as the Rider-Waite deck- 5 stars.

In this book Kathleen McCormack explains how to use the Tarot cards and interprets their hidden meanings.Everthing about them
is intriguing and mysterious, but Ms McCormack does not confuse the reader, giving concise and simplified account of their history. The accent is on spiritual growth, and cosmic consciousness. A great book set in any language and not just for beginners!

This is great for everybody!

I am not a beginner at Tarot, but I use this set all the time. Other tarot reader fell in love with the beautiful cards (not harsh like some other tarots), the simple, yet full of info booklet that gives you insight along the way. It's good for beginners, because it doesn't "abandoned you" with the cards and your intuition; it helps understanding each card, then their meanings according to their position in the spread(s). It still requires energy (as any tarot reading), but this set makes it fun and fulfilling. I would recommend this to any tarots readers and I'm planning to give it as gifts to friends.

This book is really cute. But it also is a new readers book with some favorite childhood characters. It rhymes which makes it so much easier for young readers to connect with and makes reading much easier. It's pretty cute - Papa Bear's honey is missing and after a myriad of mishaps, they discover he's the culprit! All rhyming throughout the entire book but it's quite entertaining. Very good book to get if you have a young reader at home. Highly recommend!

This story is so funny! Just when you think the worst has happened to Bertie, something else happens. Bertie doesn't let anything get him down, and he makes the best of his troubles, at that. Everyone who has had messy hair or a missing tooth on "Picture Day" will relate to Bertie's experience and cheer his indomitable spirit.

A great message for kids!

I bought this book for my grandson who has just completed the first gade. I think the book is funny. The vocabulary is easy enough and the illustrations are excellent. Even without them, a beginning reader can picture everything. It contains a strong appeal to the senses, and the situations are easy for a second gader to relate to. I highly recommend this book.

I highly recommend this book to anyone! It is a lovely, enchanting, and funny tale, and the pictures complement the story beautifully. I read it to my son recently, and we both loved it. He listened the entire time and wanted to hear it again! It has quickly become one of his favorites! We also have Katharine Kenah's book The Dream Shop (illustrated by Peter Catalannotto), which is a gorgeous picture book. I recommend her books to everyone!

My 5 year old twin boys have just begun to enjoy this series of books after reading two of the Billy and Blaze books saved from my own childhood. I decided to complete the collection for them and have bought all the other books. These classic boy-and-faithful-horse-adventure stories have a timeless appeal that have been a joy to revisit for me and to discover for the first time for them.

The whole Billy and Blaze series is wonderful. This book is my son's favorite. The story is about how Billy takes Blaze on a ranch vacation. They see a wild horse they name Thunderbolt. None of the grown up cowboys can get near him. Blaze and Thunderbolt become fast friends. Eventually Thunderbolt follows them home, jumps in the corral with Blaze, and becomes friends with Billy. Billy is the only person Thunderbolt trusts and eventually lets Billy train him. Billy goes home from vacation with a beautiful new horse and Blaze has a best friend. My son was facinated by the friendship between the horses and how a boy could train such a big animal. The illustrations are beautiful and my son loves them.

This is an awesome book! Pam finds out a new friend's pony is blind. The Pony Pals help the new girl train her pony. The girl's parents expect her to go into jumping contests. Will she be able to keep her pony? This book shows that people/animals with disabilities can do things just like we can.
