This book is a very pleasing combination of words and pictures. The author spreads the illustrations throughtout the text, drawing the reader into the flow of his thoughts. It is a complete treatment of the Shakers - from their history, their way of life and worship and their enduring legacy to our country. Mr. Horsham acknowledges the existence of a small number of Shakers in the Sabbathday Lake community in Maine which is a pleasant change from many of these type of books. Although the main focus of his work is on the beautiful worksmanship of the Shakers he does a credible job of explaining their theology and the all encompassing effect that theology had on their lifes and work. He also includes information on the spread of the Shakers community as well as the contraction that they experienced as the society around them changed, making their lifestyle less attractive to the "world's people". Definately a good value for the price, enjoyable for the neophyte Shaker enthusiast as well as the more "obsessed" among us.

I bought my copy ages ago. Arbrush art is really nice -and the quality of print is good, so I'm very pleased with my copy. Some of the artwork is from commercials -I don't mind, but I gues some people would.

An excellent sampler, but no substitute for experience.

The first half of Michael E. Leek's Encyclopedia of Airbrush Techniques is devoted to technique and real-world examples of how techniques are used. The second half illustrates themes of professional work, and how they exemplify various techniques and design concepts.

To a total beginner, this book is filled with detailed steps and explanations, but does not qualify as a first how-to book. The examples and pictures describe brush technique well enough, but do little to enlighten how and where the masking is applied and removed. The photos range from simple to enticing, and are a good basis for practice ideas and experimenting with the airbrush.

To an intermediate airbrush artist, the techniques are a good example of method, and may help round out a repertoire of skills. Vivid selections of advanced professional airbrush work cry out for a more advanced book of technique combinations.

Okay but could have been better

The first thing that I noticed about this book is it had a lot of pictures and not alot of info on how to airbrush t-shirts. However I did find the book useful in creating new designs and to know what needed to be done and in what order. Over all it is a good book to get you exited about airbrushing on textiles but doesn't give you enough information on on to do it.

This book has 22 step-by-step demonstrations of all the basic-level aurbrush techniques! It says what type of airbrushes are used for what type of airbrushing! Picking an air source, airbrsuh, paint, painting surfaces and things you need to get started in both Illustration and T-shirt airbrushing! This is a book I have read 3 or 4 times and every time I read it I find out something new! This is a must for any airbrush artist or artist to be!

Fair book but, not for the beginner.

Excellent graphics. Great quality in the physical aspect of the book and the colored graphics contianed in it. But, it definitely does not help the beginner much. It jumps steps and the photographs do not help to decipher what the author is trying to explain. Not for the NOVICE

Not what I was looking for

I bought some books with Airbrush paintings a few years a go from a nearby half price books. I was always amazed at the quality of the paintings and got quite interested to learn how the technique works. I am not an artist myself, so I was not looking for a very detailed technical book, but detailed enough to explain someone like me how this great technique works. I hoped this book will be the key to my queries, but it wasn't. It does explain the technique, the tools and provides some samples, but I did not get the feeling that now I fully understand how Airbrush works. I also do not recommend this book if you want to learn to use paintbrush, it does not seem detailed enough for beginners. It may be useful if you already experienced this technique before using "hands on" and want some reference book for further exploration.

Nothing more than an introduction...

This book is a quick and easy read for those interested or just beginning in the art of airbrushing. For those more experienced, and are looking to learn new techniques or enhance their already established skills, should look elsewhere. The chapters within are short and vague of details and procedures. Overall, the material of the book is nothing more than an introduction...possibly even, just a tease!
