Another great easy to read book by Vivian Vasquez that explores her (and others) applications of critical literacy concepts with young children. She offers a good outline of the Freebody and Luke Four Resource Model on pages 14 and 15. She also explains critical literacy as a mixture of Whole Language and Critical Pedagogy. A great example is the activity that evolved from a Royal Mounties poster that had only men. Fantastic!

Young girls who are learning their alphabet will love this book. It is so beautifully illustrated. This is the most
unique alphabet book I have ever seen. The artwork surpasses so many of the other alphabet books that are too cartoonish. This book is so much more than just the ABC's The artwork is in black and white with hints of soft colors around the borders and in the type, and there is so much detail. Every time you look at the book you will
find something you didn't see last time.

God's Provision by Charles Swindoll tackles the huge subject of the biblical affirmation of God's provision in a very small, well-illustrated book.
Our human frailties of stress, worry, temptation, fear and the like are exposed, softened by many of Swindoll's penetrating expressions like, " We think of love as something that is giving, but sometimes love involves taking away something that would not be best." Most of the expressions are noted with biblical verse for reference and assurance.
A must on an "encourager's" bookshelf, a perfect gift for those who need to be reminded that God is our provider through all our personal trials.

a beautiful testament to the power of family and creativity.

The story of family history and oral tradition is brought to life by artist/illustrator, Michele Wood. The elements neccesary to convey the use of personal history into the creative process is acheived by the perfect match of text and illustration. This title could be brought to use in several arenas of childhood education; art apprectiation, exploration of the creative process, oral history as well as a springboard for discusion on several levels. Folk art books for children such as this and ones by Mattie Lou O'Kelly, etc. are few and far between. This one should insprire a new generation of folk and naive artists.

I have the good fortune of knowing Robert Kopp, and i must say this book has helped me move my view of christianity and activeness in the church to a new level. Don't be intimidated by golf in the title for all of you non-players (like me),because the correlations between the sport and religion can be linked with anything else you enjoy. The book gives a clever way to look at faith and is a fun, enjoyable read. There is a good chance you will walk away from this book with a new source of hope to get through these crazy times that we live it. P.S., i'm only 17, so this is good for all ages.

This book is wonderful for polishing grammar skills. Lester writes in his forward to the student "This book is designed to give you what you need to know about grammar in order to be an effective, professional classroom teacher - a thorough knowledge of how grammar works and methods for teaching and using it effectively in the classroom".
I had the privelege of taking an advanced grammar class from Dr. Lester, and while using this book in the course, learned more about grammar than in any previous years in school. Not only did I learn more than I thought I could, I became comfortable with grammar.
Included with the instruction are simple tests for finding parts of speech - ways to determine if a word is a noun, adjective, etc. I found these tests extremely helpful when teaching a grammar unit to sixth graders.
Lester gives practice activities at the end of each chapter which review and test the reader on what he or she has learned, with answers in the back of the book.
I recommend this book highly to anyone brushing up on grammar, or trying to master it for the first time.

The newest addition to the Purdue Studies in Romance Literatures series, The Great Chiasmus: Word And Flesh In The Novels Of Unamuno by Paul R. Olson is an extensive literary analysis of the classic works of Miguel de Unamuno. Focusing especially on Unamuno's use of the chiasmus, a reversal in the order of words or parts of speech in parallel phrases ("blanca como la neive y como la nieve fria"), The Great Chiasmus is a meticulous, scholarly work which is strongly recommended, especially for complementing the experience and appreciation of Unamuno's writings, whether in their original Spanish or in an English translation.

I picked up a copy of the book and was enchanted by the content of the book as well as by the subject matter and the writer's voice. White put so much care and heart into researching the life and work of Poet Hugo Ball. After reading this book your viewpoint on who the great influencers in the 20th century of art, poetry, and performance will undoubtedly need to include Hugo Ball.
