I came across this book after reading some reviews of Pablo Neruda's works. After reading only 2 chapters, I really got into the work. Paz's essays are incredible insightful, and he is able to analyze not only his own culture but also myriad other cultures and draw semblances between them. Topics wander through art, language, occasionally politics, and even love and eroticism. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in art, international affairs, philosophy, or especially anthropology. Read it, and you won't be disappointed.

Peter Pierce's critical study 'The Country of Lost Children: An Australaian Anxiety' is an important contribution to Australian literary criticism. The work surveys the development of the lost child motif in literature of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. It theorises that the motif embodies human (and colonial) anxieties about the vast and untamed natural environment of nineteenth century literature, folktales and visual arts. He asserts that over time, this preoccupation has shifted to a more inward societal critique of the potential for danger and menace in humanity itself. Pierce draws on ficition, theatre (briefly), film and true stories, demonstrating the pervasiveness of this trope in collective memory, lived experience and the imaginary. This survey opens the field to more detailed critical study of texts, broader cultural formations and the reasons for this phenomenon, as well as ongoing analysis of the potency of the figure of the child in the Australian consciousness, especially when we think about the future. More study of popular culture and true stories would be beneficial to this project. Overall, an important contribution to Australian studies.

This is a great book for children about third grade level. It does have a few activities that younger kids could do with a little head start. It has great step by step instructions and pictures. Most are things that can be recylcled and are inexpensive items. The ideas don't necessarily have to be related to the rainforest. Just an all around great book for hands on learning.

This book is great for kids between 6 and 12. I'm a brownie leader with 2 girls and these activities hold the interest of both younger and older children, small groups and large. We've made several of the projects at home and a few with the brownie troop. The ground hog puppet was especially liked by the Brownie troop. It's great for cold days when you can't get outdoors.

The ideas in the book are creative and original. It is hard to decide which craft to do first. My kids really enjoy these books and I have lots of other craft books but we always end up picking something out of the "wild about" series.

Finally a crafts book geared to boys (and girls). My son loves space flight, planets and aliens. This book provides tips for crafts in all three areas. This is the first crafts book I found, for young children, that is geared towards girls and boys. The crafts are easy to do and use common household items.

Kendall Haven and MaryGay Ducey have done a bang up job of hitting the high points for busy librarians who are thinking that MAYBE they could tell stories, too. I have worked in libraries, plus do a lot of training of librarians, literacy staff and tutors and teachers in using storytelling. This book is now number one on my list of recommended books. It's a fast read, funny, and very practical. Thanks guys! You brought us a winner.

A how-to manual for improving information literacy instruction as a college library meets the needs of its students & professors

Collaboratively written by professional college librarians Joanna M. Burkhardt, Mary C. MacDonald and Andree J. Rathemacher for professional college librarians, Creating A Comprehensive Information Literacy Plan is a how-to manual for improving information literacy instruction as a college library meets the needs of its students and professors. Information literacy is not what it was a generation ago - the Internet and other modern developments have transformed the skills that students and professionals must cultivate to meet their academic needs. Chapters discuss how to devise a plan to suit a given library's needs, and a host of sample worksheets and references are sure to simplify the librarian's task. An accompanying CD-ROM allows users to customize and print their own planning worksheets and easily access the complete bibliography, success stories, and a list of hyperlinked Web resources. Especially recommended for librarians and libraries seeking tools to iron the kinks out of their literacy program and present it to the campus at large.
