Fables and Fairy Tales Books

The beautiful period illustrations are more delightful than any animation technique! Truly a classical story classically illustrated. The only thing missing is the wonderful musical score. The included nutcracker is not up to the same standards as the book, but it is the story and the artwork that matters.

Finally, this is Kenji Miyazawa put into English in all his psychotic glory. The translation is faithful, and the stories are spellbinding, and at times simply wierd. Just perfect.

This book jumped off the shelf at me because my father told us stories his grandfather had told him. That grandfather, from Galway Ireland, used to open his stories with a longer version of this book's title - "Once upon a time, though it wasn't your time or my time or anyone else's time" - and I'd never seen that used anywhere else. These are 3 wonderful children's stories, though none of them are from Ireland, and they are beautifully illustrated. Read them with your children and watch them travel to far away places, or curl up on a rainy day and read them yourself, and travel even farther away to your own far away times of childhood.

When I was little, my mother used to read this book to me. It opened my half-conscious mind to a fantastic world of wonder, heroism, honor, and friendship. It taught me ethics and morals and molded me into the avid reader I am today.
I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys Aesop's fables, Hans Christian Anderson stories, and desires less gruesome version of Grimm fairytales, as well as to those who would like to instill a sense of wonder in their children.

A great book for children who have graduated from 'One, Two, Buckle My Shoe'Rhyme. Counting one to ten with your young ones will never be the same again as characters from various fairy tales blend very well with the number rhymes. For each tale revisited, children get to answer questions on each fairy tale. Knowing they have answered correctly as each flap is lifted will make them want to move on and guess the next fairy tale trivia as the number rhyme continues. An excellent book to introduce rhymes to young children and a great book to get the 3's and 4's make up their own number rhymes.

In a time when kids are exposed only to stories from poorly written television shows and movies, this book arrives. The stories are timeless, and well written. They are worth reading, even if you don't have children to read aloud to.

Orphan Boy combines the values of character and responsibility. The Orphan Boy must make several critical decisions throughout the story.The pictures are absolutely stunning. The ending is a complete surprise but still plausible. A great book for grades three and up.
