Fables and Fairy Tales Books

This is a folktale of a young girl Jehan, who lives in Baghdad. One morning she wakes to find out she has lost her smile. She searches for it all over the world, only to find it was hidden in her own home all along she just had to uncover it. She finds the more she smiles the easier it is and the entire community shares her smile. The moral is to find the hidden beauty in life that is often right in front of us. This is a great book that incorporates the culture of Baghdad, culture all over the world, and has a great moral to it. This is delightful book and I highly recommend it.

this is a terrific child friendly delivery of an old old clever legend - still lessons in it even for adults. The cartoon like drawings are marvelous as well. I gave the loan of it to someone and they donated it!!!!!! I wait for the day when I can get it again.

I had the opportunity to read the goblins Ball by Roy Thompson. This was also read by my granchildren who also enjoyed it immensely, and looking foward to a follow up.

A perfect story to read aloud to young children! With beautiful illustrations and a wonderful moral, The Golden Goose has the ability to captivate a young audience. Would recommend it to any storyteller!

This is a beautiful book. The paper stock is excellent and Archipova's illustrations are colorful and simply beautiful. Included: The Goose-Girl; The Golden Goose; The Twelve Huntsmen; The Six Servants; The Breman Town-Musicians; The Hut in the Forest; and Hans in Luck. Perhaps not the ordinary Grimm selections, but entertaining for kids and adults.

Two of my favorite nursery stories growing up were "The Three Little Pigs," and "The Three Bears." Imagine my delight at finding a book which not only has these two classic tales, but, "The Golden Goose," and "Tom Thumb" as well. They are retold beautifully, the writing is emotional and reminiscent of nursery rhymes. The book was originally published in 1905, and the pictures are totally recognizable as being of that era...detailed and descriptive of the story. I can hardly wait for my daughter to be old enough to enjoy this book as much as I do!

Me and my two-year old son loved this book instantly, mainly because of great illustration. Other books in First Favourite Tales series aren't as good as this one. The story is somewhat changed from the one I remember from my chilhood but that's O.K. Maybe we loved the book so much because we already had fingerpuppets of the three bears and Goldilocks but I really do recomend it.

This was the most enjoyable Goldilocks I have ever read. It is short yet tells the whole story, with expression and the sweetest pictures,with wonderful details.

very funny/ cute retelling of story. my kids loved acting out the different puppet roles. the illustrations were very cute. there were very good moral points like rudeness, greed, cleanliness demonstrated in the book. my kids love reading it over and over again and acting out their parts with the puppets, almost like a play.
