A lot of "read" for the penny!

This is a fine introduction to popular Russian fairy tales, including the story of the little snow girl (a childless couple builds a daughter out of snow) and "Frost" (cruel stepmother sends girl out to freeze in the snow, but Frost sees her kindness and spares her-- the nasty stepsisters are not so lucky). The similarity between some of the Russian tales and our own English fairy tales is interesting (why is the stepmother always the evil one?). This introductory collection leaves one wanting to learn more Russian tales.

I checked this book out from the library for my children, and they ended up loving it so much I had to order them a copy of it. Six months later, and the 2-yr old and 1-yr old (almost 3 and 2) still ask for the book. I have parts of it memorized. Cute little story, and nice pictures.

John Manders provides the vivid drawings to a fun tale.

Clever Fergus O'Mara is good at avoiding work - and finding fun. But his attempts to discourage a night demon doesn't work, and Fergus begins to realize his tendency to give excuse and ignore reality will only get him deeper into trouble. John Manders provides the vivid drawings to a fun tale.

This is a wonderfull faery book for all ages! This great book tells of the various types of faeries that live in India, Arabia, Alaska, Polynesia, Asia, Great Britain, North America, Europe, Africa, and Centrel and South America. It also talks about different recipes and crafts you can make for certain faeries, like suger frosted flowers and a faery fan. This great book also talks about how to throw a indoor or outdoor faery party, and how to attract them to your garden. I reccomend this book to anyone who loves and believes in faeries, and wishes to learn more about them. I do not reccomend this book to those who do not have a open mind.

What a great book!Retold Irish Folklore accompanied by beautiful illustrations.Small glossary to help with the pronunciation of some Gaelic names. The story kept my 4 1/2 yr.old's attention (re-read many times), and made me laugh out loud. We loved it! My favorite line..."Finn overcame with wit and wisdom that which might never have been done by force." Words we should all live by!

Excellent way to teach children Irish Folklore!!!

Excellent Book! Our Toddler Loves It!

FIREFLIES, FIREFLIES, LIGHT MY WAY is a truly exceptional picture book. Our 29-month-old has been asking to read this almost every for a month. Mom, dad, grandma and a babysitter have all been asked to read this, more than once!

Things we love about FIREFLIES, FIREFLIES, LIGHT MY WAY include:
- Beautiful PICTURES: brilliant colors, vivid images
- JOURNEY IN PICTURES as well as words: as each animal leads the boy to the next, you can glimpse one of the animal that came before, and the one that is coming next. Then in the final picture, you can see all of the animals. Our toddler loves searching out the detail in the pictures.
- RHYTHYM: Reads like a song or a poem
- LEARNING ANIMAL NAMES: a chance to learn names of animals and talk about what they do
- SWEET/GENTLE BOOK: although on one page we say "yikes" as we encounter alligators, it all feels like a delightful adventure, with nothing that disturbed our tender-hearted toddler

If you are choosing books in order to foster a sense of connection with the natural world, this book is an especially nice choice.

Outstanding! Our 15 month old loves to have it read to him.

This book is wonderful. Our fifteen month old loves to have it read to him. The illustrations are wonderful. There are a number of different animals, and our baby loved to point them out. The pages are nice and large with lots, but not too much, to look at. The text is equally interesting and pleasant, and its rhyming nature makes it pleasant to read out loud

This is a wonderful addition to a home or K/1st library collection. The story and illustrations are whimsical. The math "mistake" is great practice for youngsters with problem solving. This is an entertaining book for emergent readers to read on their own or to be used as a read aloud.

Funny and a great read for kids!

My kids laughed all the way through it. They were given a chance to count and talk through the fishermen and their mistakes. My oldest read it and laughingly told me I had to read it to my 2 1/2 year old. Fishing is very big in our house and the book was picked for that connection but is well worth reading.

This is a lovely and engaging, child-sized book, and my 5 year old daughter and 3 year old son were both engrossed for an entire reading, I think due equally to the detailed child-fairy characters and the focus on plants and nature. They were also quite pleased to note the garments on the fairies and elves that echo the features of the plants. I love it for the wonderful artwork ~ particularly the fairies that look most like my children :)

For those who are looking at branching into the world of art. This book is an excellent primer for some of the better quality work which is no longer around today. If you like this time period you can try other illustrators like Trina Schart Hyman, Edward-Burne Jones, or Alphonse Mucha. While all of Barker's artwork is not on this level, this book is and makes enjoyable eye-candy for the artist or artist-at-heart.

I loved the book but I made the mistake of buying this and all the rest of the seasons, trees and flower fairies books as well as the Complete Book of the Flower Faires". I then realized that all the pictures in the small book were the same as the big one. So I wasted $ with shipping both ways. Oh well live and learn. Beautiful pictures though.

This is a MUST READ by one of best historical writers I know.
The story tells of young Mary De Holt, a firy teen in a desperate need to get out.
We follow our new friend, and her faithfull old nurse Agnes into the depths of Sherwood forest, were they find a clearing, The Forestwifes clearing.
This gripping tale of desperation, love, death, fear of discovery and all round greatness, is certain to be a big hit with any Theresa Tomlinson and Robin Hoods fans alike!

This book is for intermediate or young adult readers who are very interested in a strong heroine who is quick thinking and compassionate. Also for readers who enjoy the legend of Robin Hood, as long as they are willing to look at it from a new perspective. Theresa Tomlinson's "The Forestwife Trilogy" puts "Maid Marian" in the spotlight in this must-read companion to Robin Hood's tale.

This is a great book and well worth the time and money. It is comprehensive and well versed. It is a great book. There are great pictures in it but sometimes the pictures don't always fight the story. The Bible pictures in my opinion are in poor taste. I understand they are famous paintings but I feel they are inaproprate for children to view.

This book brought memories of stories read to me when I was 3-7 years old. It is a great book for parents to read to their young children, which range from poetry of many countries and ages; along with stories of fantasy and lessons to be taught to children. I highly recommend it to parents who will also love the poetry and stories.
