Bogin, who is quickly becomming a very important anthropologist and scholar in general, has written a fine book combining work in growth, ecology, and population studies. Written in his usual terse but quick style, this is an enjoyable read for anyone interested in the future of humanity.

Guide to Teaching Strings, Sixth Edition

This is a very informative book on everything one needs to know about teaching the string instruments, i.e., in this case, violin, viola, cello, and bass. Susan has added extra information to the older edition by her father, Norman Lamb, especially on the current technological development. The explanation of the technical terms is in just right amount that it doen't get too dry and detailed. I especially find that the chapter of "Selecting Instruments, Bows, and Cases" be most useful for inexperienced string teachers. The book is not designed to really teach one to play an instrument, but rather one to provide information on teaching the string instruments. One word of caution to buyers: the printing of pictures in some recent books has bad quality as if they were photo copied directed from a machine. I hope the pulisher would correct that.

A VALUABLE CONTRIBUTION TO THE STUDY OF SWIFT'S CLASSIC.
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2001-09-27
Review Date: 2001-09-27
In this study, John Murray examines Gulliver's Travels within the context of recent social constructionist theory. Murray evaluates the social and psychological implications of brainwashing within the context of the narrative. His thesis challenges popular theories of behavioral and ideological conformity by concluding that in spite of being socialized within the host-societies, Gulliver's decisions are his own. Gulliver's self-knowledge enables him to navigate an alternative field of choices at his own discretion, choices which, as Murray suggests 'differ from the expectations of his hosts, and which contradict the idea that he has been successfully brainwashed.' Murray's study is a valuable contribution to a growing corpus of modernist readings of Swift's Gulliver's Travels. Readers of Murray's lucid study will come away with a renewed appreciation and understanding of this literary classic.

This book shows continent by continent the impact Habitat For Humanity has had on the world. The homes that have been built, using the model created by the Fullers, have helped house over a million people worldwide. Millard & Linda Fuller have made decent housing a matter of conscience. This book is a tribute to the work volunteers have done and a call for more to be accomplished.
The Fullers first founded Habitat, and more recently, The Fuller Center For Housing. I urge you to take a look at their new cite to see and participate in the work they are doing! You will be truly inspired!

As a houseleader and committee member for a Habitat Affliate I found many of my joys and frustrations were address in this book. Well written and candid, it addresses the many points of view that are part of the Habitat Universe. If you are a volunteer or are interested in becoming one this book provides insight on the dynamics and tensions that you'll be dealing with.

Many authors claim to know the quickest and easiest ways to market a script, but only in this book have I found the most un-skewed view of the industry expressed. Sometimes brutally honest, Selling to Hollywood exposes many of the unrealized truths about Hollywood to the undeterred screenwriter in attempts to inform rather than discourage. In fact, coming to these realizations gives the edge that is desperately needed to be a successful screenwriter, daunting as the odds may be.
Selling to Hollywood also reveals the "Rules of the Game", addressing vital steps in the process of effectively pitching your screenplay. It describes the Face to Face Meeting, the quick 30 Second Pitch, and the Unsolicited Letter. It doesn't stop there though. It continues to teach you how to sell yourself along with your script.
Everything written is meant to arm the reader with knowledge so as not to be taken advantage of. Extensive information on the copywriting process is provided, helping the screenwriter protect him or herself.
Also, a nice touch was a very thorough list of contact information for Feature Film and Television Production Companies, as well as Literary Agents.
This is a MUST BUY if you are looking to beat the odds and sell your script(s) to Hollywood.
