Thank you very much for the experience, although, being that I reside in the State of Hawaii, I was a little "foggy" once I purchased the product. I could not find anywhere on the page on how to adjust the "shipping", is it "because" I live in Hawaii that I am only allowed the "standard" media mail option? There is no such thing as 2-3 business day shipping? I would really like this clarified before purchasing again. I am willing to pay more for the shipping, as long as I can receive my product in a timely manner. If I need to allow additional time for "standard shipping", then I need to know! Because I am definitely planning on purchasing again now that I have gone back to school! Thank you very much for your time.

Exploring Current Issues in Educational Technology, is a book is designed to get you to think. The authors note that is what makes the book different. It is not just a text providing information to memorize. The first four chapters describe the pedagogical approach of the book and it's topics. Here it explains the problem-based approach and the use of scenarios to prompt critical thinking and group discussion. The book is chiefly designed for future teachers who will be expected to use communications technologies in the classroom. The authors also note that it might also be quite helpful for experienced teachers who need to expand their knowledge of what is available and the issues associated with the effective use of these new technologies. In addition, they point out that Exploring Current Issues in Educational Technology is also for instructional technologists who either have an advanced degree or are working on one. The book is well written, easy to read and understand. It is extremely well organized into twenty chapters, each of which addresses a different issue in the field of instructional technology. This variety of issues offers choice to the reader or the instructor using the text in a college classroom. The topics are compelling and interesting for anyone working in this area. The twenty chapters have been organized into five sections, each reflecting a given theme. The first section covers chapters that deal primarily with educational approaches and leads readers to think about how these techniques can be used in conjunction with technology. This "Curricular Concerns: Strategies and Skills" section discusses experimental and descriptive research. The second section encompasses the chapters that raise controversial issues associated with the implementation of instructional technology. This "Difficult Decisions: Crucial Yet Complicated" section is likely to stimulate lively debate in the classroom. Section 3, "Social Issues: Rights and Responsibilities," deals with the use of technology and social issues that arise from such use. The fourth section, "New Opportunities: Engaging or Enraging?," gives examples of new technology applications and asks how instructors can best take advantage of the new potential. The title of the final section is "Future Possibilities: Virtually No Limitations?," discusses future possibilities and how they might transform schools by the end of this new millennium. The individual chapter topics are truly intriguing and leave the reader wondering which one to read first. This book goes beyond simply providing information; it presents problematic issues and situations in realistic case studies and asks the reader to find solutions. Each chapter ends with a scenario. The scenarios involve issues such as online learning communities, commercial TV in the classroom, copyrights and fair use, replacing books with "Notebooks," artificial intelligence, and researching on the Web. Each scenario is introduced with a clear explanation of why the issues raised are important. The authors have used obviously sprinkled subtle humor throughout the book and it is a delightful and insightful read. They have provided a nice Glossary with the book. The size of the book makes it manageable read on a quiet evening.

Recommended text for course work in the family field

I have used this new book by Powell & Cassidy -- twice. In an undergraduate class in Family Life Education (University of North Texas), I assigned this text the first semester it was available. I had received a desk copy from Mayfield in fall, just in time for adoption for my Spring 2001 class. Students found the text "readable," which is to say that the authors wisely kept theory short (though evident!) and application at the ready. On all topics, students found practical advice and explanation for working with families.

The second use was in a graduate class (Texas Woman's University) called Teaching Family Sciences. While this text is not a graduate-level textbook, I considered it an essential reading for our course because I fully expect the book to be a top choice for undergraduate courses in FLE for years to come. In other words, it is a good book for graduate students (future instructors) to be exposed to.

In case anyone is not familiar with Powell and Cassidy, they are well regarded in the circle of professionals and educators in the family field. Powell has just concluded service in a national role with the National Council on Family Relations. Cassidy is also associated with NCFR: she directs the certification program (national) of Certified Family Life Educators.

I recommend this book for use with undergraduate _and_ graduate students.

This a good book for a nice short and sweet reading of the Nuremberg Trials. It gives the reader a good perspective of why the Trials were held and what lessons should be learned from them. Rice gives the audience a juanting array of themes with out really going into all the politics of the event. Rice is a good read for people who want to know the juice of the Trial.

Great introduction to agriculture in Iron Age Britain
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2006-12-12
The author, Peter Reynolds, was the driving force in Iron Age agricultual archaeology. He was the director of the Butser Ancient Farm in Hampshire, UK. Although this book is over two decades old, it is still a great introduction to the subject of Celtic farming in Britain before the arrival of the Romans. It was published for young readers, but the book is a good starting point for anyone new to this subject.
Contents:
1. SPRING: Plowing, The Seed
2. FARM ANIMALS
3. SUMMER
4. THE FARMSTEAD: The Buildings, Work about the Farmstead
5. AUTUMN: The Harvest, Storing the Grain
6. WINTER: Making Clothes, Woodwork

A more up-to-date, more academic article would be Dr. Reynold's, "Rural Life and Farming," in the book, "The Celtic World," ed. Miranda Green Routledge 1995 pp 176-209 ISBN: 0415146275

Note: this title, "Farming in the Iron Age" ISBN: 0-521-21084-4 is the original British edition. An American edition was also published under the title, "Life in the Iron Age" ISBN: 0-8225-1214-9.

A book no respectable domicile should be without! An extremely comprehensive collection of readings, spanning the gamut of human thought. Philosophers from Descartes to Locke to Baier write on everything from The Self, ethics and the existance of god, to and anarchy and rights and goods. Would make an excellent for any intro. to Philosophy class.

Review Date: 2006-06-25
This book is a bibliography of the literature of film and television. It has a listing of some 1244 books on the film and television industry. The entries are broken down into categories such as journals, country, genres, formats, studios, ethnic groups, gender and sexual orientation, making films, fans, and more.

Note that this book does not contain information on these subjects, it contains references to books or other publications that have information on these subjects. As such it is intended to be of use to the serious researcher or to librarians.

Each entry contains a standard reference giving the title, author, publication information and a short description of the book. This book is an updated version of the now twenty year old Kim Fisher book. It is updated to late 2005.
