Excellent Theory...Especially For Early Childhood Professionals
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2007-08-13
Even though it falls a bit short in a lot of practical application, Hoy & Miskel do a superb job in outlining just about every possible ed admin theory that is relevant in educationa entities today.

The top sections of this book that are DEFINITELY worth reading are Chapter 10's discussion on shared decision-making, Chapter 12's discussion on leadership, Chapter 4's discussion on what motivates individuals, and Chapter 5's section on climate & culture.

I recommend this book and along with Caruso & Fawcett's SUPERVISION IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION: A DEVELOPMENTAL PERSPECTIVE.

A good book for starting or improving your school studio
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2004-07-19
This is a good book if you are looking to start a school TV program, or improve the program you've got. I am a school media specialist, and we do a lot these days - librarian, web-master, research teacher, TV producer. This book helped me improve my school TV program. It described a lot of equipment that was previously unfamiliar to me. It also told me what to look for in various equipment (audio mixer, video mixer, etc.) My next purchase is probably a video editor, and this book tells me what features to look for. My students have created several of the video projects enclosed, and students and teachers like them alot. Buy this book if you want to improve your school tv studio.

Edward Johnston: Lessons in Formal Writing
Published in Hardcover by Humanities Press Intl Inc (1986-04)
Author: Edward Johston
List price: $55.00

Average review score:

A classic work.
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2006-04-29
When Johnston died in 1944, much of what became this book was in scattered manuscript form and subsequently edited by Heather Child and Justin Howes and first printed in 1985. They brought the work together and provided illustrations -- from his class notes and lectures -- demonstrating Johnston's theories of writing. Included are tributes and appreciations, essays, lectures, writings, etc.

Of Johnson's writing, Evelyn Waugh said; "The sweep and precision of his strokes were as virile as a bullfighter's and left me speechless."

Well researched and illustrated, this is a classic work about one of the foremost and most influential teachers of calligraphy.

A New View of Einstein and his Work
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2005-07-25
We are all born into a culture that determines a lot about our existance. Einstein was born at a time when his discoveries in science were possible. For three centuries the world had run on Newton's theories. Any deviation from those theories was heretical. But by the time Einstein was ready to publish his Special Theory of Relativity in 1905 there were enough pinpricks at the edges of Newton's theories so that the world was ready.

Much earlier than 1905 and Einstein's theories would have been dismissed as gibberish, if indeed he hadn't suffered the same fate as Galileo and put under house arrest. As it was, Einstein became Time Magazine's Man of the Century, an honor no one else could come close to claiming.

Much later and it is quite possible that Einstein would have been rounded up with the rest of the Jews and killed. Perhaps his great achievements would have been discovered by others, perhaps not yet.

This book examines the culture of Germany at the end of the 1800's and how this helped to prepare the ground for him to work and produce his theories. It is a book that presents a somewhat different view of Einstein and his work.

I am a student, and I am currently using this book. This book continues on from the first volume in a successful way. It makes learning Neopolitan chords a little easier; it explains everything clearly, and allows the student to apply it in the right way. Good informative book.

This book is very well written; disturbing, but well done
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 1997-06-14
As I wrote the index for this book, I'd find that I was wrapped up in the story so much that I was crying; I'd have to go back to re-read sections so I could index it. It's very disturbing, but very well written. I highly recommend it for all people, so we'll learn not to repeat these atrocities.
