This is definitely one of the better books about ancient Rome avaiable for grade schoolers. Covered clearly and accurately are such topics as homelife, bath houses, occupations, education, and religious worship. The book is also quite visually attractive, with many color pictures. I highly recommend it for classrooms and libraries.

As a High School Literature teacher, my students have a DO NOW when they come into class. The Shakespeare Daily Warm-ups are great for introducing concepts that we will continue to discuss in class.

Daily Writing Prompts is a delightful find for those of us who are looking for a guide to help our students become better writers. Its purpose is simple...to help children become better writers by providing them with daily practice and a connection to literature. Sounds great, right? Well, it is...if you can come up with an interesting variety of topics on your own. This book offers a treasury of writing topics, most with accompanying literature recommendations, right at your fingertips. The idea is to develop themes and topics that are connected with literature we see everyday. Connect the topic with the titles! Now why didn't I think of that?

The author has also included a section of "mini-lessons" to help tune up the grammatical conventions associated with good writing. I found this to be a crucial element to our success. If students don't have the right tools, or components for writing (such as understanding the various parts of a sentence and how sentences work together), then how can we expect them to write fluently? These short, quick mini-lessons can be repeated often so that the skill is reinforced over time.

All in all, I found this to be a very helpful and entertaining reference tool for our homeschool. If you want your child to become a better writer while helping them to become better readers, then this will be a perfect addition to your library.

Dancing Hearts: Creative Arts with Books Kids Love is a wonderful tool for elementary school teachers and homeschooling parents to use. Martha Brady's creative ideas incorporate multiple intelligences so that all students may enjoy and learn from the 20 trade books she suggests. My students have loved our literature based activities and have learned more about themselves too.

I haven't been able to buy this book, but I have read it. It is very good, and doesn't just talk about the play, about half the essays are significantly focused on the movie version of Glengarry Glen Ross, and there are a few that are completely focused on it. I believe one even makes a case that the movie is better than the play (which I agree with). A great book if you are interested in Mamet's work of genius!

At last a book on dyslexia with workable and sensible advice! The suggestions in this book can be used by parents and teachers alike and can still be applied in a big class, where the child can stay in the class room.

These Literature units have allowed me to incorporate a series of Lit circles into my classroom. In the past trying to work up materials for a new novel took so much time that I rarely attempted more than one a semester. This year, with the help of these plans, I was able to have my students reading a novel of their choosing as part of small group work. The vocabulary exercises use quotes from the literature, and they are excellent examples of the novel. The study guides focus on exactly the parts of the novels that I want my students investigating. You can't go wrong with this purchase.

The art work on the cover is tremendous. It is very original and much more detailed than most cover's. No credit for the artist? Who is it?
