After LOVING the Hamlet Literature Guide I bought a while ago, I decided to try Macbeth. Again, I was extremely pleased with the quality of the materials, but also with the fact that Secondary Solutions and author Kristen Bowers actually accomplish what they claim--I really CAN teach the content standards through literature! These guides are perfect for the high school english teacher, but would also be good for a parent who is homeschooling and has a fear of, or never really understood Shakespeare. PERFECT!

I recommend this literature guide to anyone who has any fear of teaching Shakespeare. I was one of those teachers, and like wild dogs, the kids could smell it!! I used this literature guide for the first time a month ago, and my teaching and confidence has turned a 180. This workbook had everything I needed- I didn't have to make up my own worksheets or lessons. Just copy and go--and the kids are learning the content standards and understanding Shakespeare, too. AMAZING!

Impressed again!

I purchased the Literature Guide for The Great Gatsby and was thrilled, but now am even more impressed with Macbeth. I would really recommend these lit guides to teachers who don't have a lot of extra time or don't want to take the extra time to write their own materials. Although I understand Shakespeare, teaching his plays are another story. This guide really gives me the confidence to be an expert on Macbeth, since it covers the play so well. Again, I would really recommend these lit guides for any teacher--I am looking forward to more titles!

I bought The Outsiders and was pleased, so I decided to try The Mircale Worker. As a new teacher, I am constantly searching for things to introduce to my students. I just finished my student teaching, and WISH I had these guides to make my life easier! I am starting school in a few weeks, and cannot wait to make a great impression on my colleagues and students with my lessons and planning done well in advance. This guide has everything a new teacher needs to feel confident that we are hitting the required content standards, getting our students ready for assessments, and helping them to enjoy the required literature along the way. Highly recommended!

I was a little hesitant to buy from this publisher, since I had not heard about them before. I have always ordered from Novel Units or Teacher Created Materials, but NO MORE! I cannot believe everything this guide has! I can just copy the worksheets and handouts and everything is done for me. This really makes entering the new school year a bit easier. I have an entire unit done! What a great feeling! I would absolutely buy from this company again and I am recommending it to my colleagues.

This thing is a Goldmine!

I am so excited about this book! I just bought this from their website, and received mine yesterday. It has lessons for teaching the content standards, which I think is really cool, because most of the books our kids have to read have no decent materials related to them. I have been trying to come up with ideas for teaching the content standards, but now I can do that while I teach them the required novels and plays! I think the price is reasonable, because this is not just a book full of questions and answers like most of the books I have found. It does have comprehension questions, but it also covers things like character development, analogies, theme, etc. so I don't have to make them up myself. School starts here soon, so I am looking forward to trying this out.

This is a [must have] for anyone who desires to study theater outside of high school and into college. Throughout my studies in college, I constantly referred back to this piece for references. It is an expensive book, but trust me. You will get your money's worth out of this one.

This is one of the best general examinations of ancient Greek civilization I have ever seen for young people. It's chocked full of useful and fasinating information about both the history and lives of the Greeks, and it also tells a lot about how modern scholars learn about these facts. All high school classes that cover ancient culures should be using this book.

I saw this book in the juvenile section of my library and figured it couldn't have the kind of detailed information I was looking for about ancient Greece. Boy, was I ever wrong! The author has managed to collect a tremendous amount of facts about Greece's history and important leaders and everytday life, etc. and put them together in a sweeping summary of an ancient civilization. I also found the many references to archeological studies of Greek sites to be very helpful. Though shorter than many adult books I have seen on Greece, this one is mcuh better than most. I heartily recommend it.

Superior Writing for Young People

Anyone familiar with the non-fiction history books that have been published in the young adult market in recent years has to be impressed with classical historian Don Nardo. As prolific as Michael Grant, as versatile as Chester G. Starr, and as thorough as A.H.M. Jones (for non-history buffs, three of the leading ancient historians of the twentieth century), Nardo has devoted several years of his time and energy to improving, and indeed single-handedly setting, the standard of historical writing for books used as reference in libraries in schools in the United States. As a former high school and junior college instructor, I have had frequent occasion to scan, review, and sometimes utilize such books in my classes, and I can testify that, with some rare exceptions, most are written by non-specialists who have little idea of what to emphasize in their texts or how to differentiate between current and dated material. These volumes are typically riddled with factual errors or at least misleading statements that students writing reports and other papers accept without question and which I have found myself correcting on a regular basis. Nardo's books, in contrast, are factually reliable and cover their subjects with thoughtful attention to organization, proper emphasis, and inclusion of the most recent available data. This general overview of Greek civilization is no exception. It combines a feeling of epic sweep with meticulous attention to detail, much of the latter dealing with archaeological finds and how these have contributed to our knowledge of Greek history and culture. His companion volumes in the same series-one on the Romans, the other on ancient Mesopotamia-are equally good for the same reasons. In addtion, his fulsome "Complete History of Ancient Greece," containing huge amounts of extremely valuable reference material, is a must for every school and community library.

Most worship services have no more to do with our spiritual experience than a $50,000 wedding has to do with a marriage when tempers escalate and the ego takes over.
Reverend Westin has walked the secular and theological path and bravely takes an unconventional perspective in a direction that is not yet universal. But he follows one who had no fear at all. The fortunate will join them.
What man has assundered remains unchanged and Rev. Westin points us forward in the original direction. He is not prescriptive, but shares the resources that he has found to be valuable in his journey.

Are we willing to listen? That really is the crux of Howard Westin's wonderful new book: "Love Letter to Humanity." One of my many criteria in deciding how much credence (or willingness to listen) I give to what someone says or writes is: "Do they walk the talk?" With Howard Westin, I can resoundingly reply "yes." His book, and his life, are shining examples of a man who has searched, questioned, transformed himself and profoundly touched those around him. It is with this background of extensive biblical, spiritual and personal research and experience that he brings us a deeply felt message of love in his unique and powerful voice.

The fact that this book arrives at a time of great turmoil in the world makes it deeply relevant. It is too easy to be drawn into false thinking by the media and politicians and Westin lovingly challenges us on this and several other fronts.

The first, and undoubtedly for some the most difficult and controversial, is his questioning of traditional Christianity's view of the message of Christ. By looking at the genesis of the bible and the historical background of its writing he gives us valuable insight into what Jesus, the man, and Jesus, the Christ stood for-and how his teachings have been distorted over the years. If you're a traditional Christian you may find such questioning threatening-but if you give Westin a chance he is simply trying to help you be happy and one with God. His impeccable scholarship on the subject notwithstanding, as a Christian I appreciate any person's ability to make me see something in a new light. That, to me, is what reading and learning is all about. I don't want to blindly follow the herd-and the passion and conviction with which Westin writes is deeply affecting. He distills the huge body of Christian biblical scholarship on this subject into easily understandable and digestible bites that make profound sense. Are we willing to listen?

The second, and equally powerful message in the book, is the resounding affirmation that "we are love." In the most consumer-oriented society on earth it's so easy to be distracted by what is seemingly Real, and what we perceive to be real. From different directions, "or spiral" as Westin calls it, he takes us on an inner journey of gentle re-minding of what will give us peace and oneness with God. If you've been exposed to the Course in Miracles, most of what he writes will resonate with you. This book will be invaluable in hearing the message of the Course in a different voice. Course or not, it is a message we need to hear in different forms-and Westin's different take (with plenty of highlighting of central themes and thoughts) is an invaluable contribution to our ability to absorb the most profound of Christ's teachings: That we lack nothing, that the most profound Knowledge of the universe resides in you right now, and that we are Love itself. Are we willing to listen?

Finally, Westin suggests several methods that have worked for him in connecting with his inner truth, or guide (the Holy Spirit). In emphasizing simple, easy to do things that will help to connect with what is Real, he shows us that all we need is the willingness to see things differently so we can remove the blocks to Love's awareness. I cannot recommend this book highly enough. It will touch your heart, open your mind and bring you one step (or more) closer to God. Are you willing to listen?

A wonderful and inspiring work

The author did a commendable job of keeping the reading at a level that was clear, concise, and simple. I had to have this book for a Research Methods course at Nova Southeastern University during the Summer I session (2003), and despite the difficulty of the course (e.g., the terminology, the somewhat dry concepts, and the statistics), Cozby "pounded" the concepts into my head by providing clear outlines of understanding. The text was very easy to read and a true psychologist chose to incorporate a reader-friendly font (10.5/12 Legacy Serif Book). The chapters are very short, too, and abstract concepts are minimal; Cozby ensured that the main points are kept as the focus of each chapter. Please enjoy this treasure! R. Beaux Ugarte, NSU

Twenty years ago, I was "forced" to purchase the 1st edition of this textbook, for a blech, introduction to social sciences course. I am very glad I did.

In reality, this is probably the only text I have reread (and many times) since leaving college. It's an introduction to the scientific method applicable to any of the sciences. It presents relatively advanced topics in statistics: the how and the why. And it's pretty humourous too.

The author provides simple and understandable examples that make abstract notions of statistics and the scientific method concrete and relevant.

Very seriously, I've used the knowledge I found in here will be used on a day to day basis to evaluate all those studies that we're assaulted with: is oat bran good for you, are mammograms associated with increased breast cancer for males under 40, all those things.

After reading the book, I felt that I had a good understanding of the history of the Middle East, the problems that have been overcome, and the issues still to be resolved. Would highly recommend.

This is an excellent, excellent book for the topic and coverage. Easily accessible and clearly written and organized, it is a pleasure to read. Some assumptions are made, but the short glossary can eliminate most of the problems with terms and vocabulary. The worst part is that there is not an updated version available in the two volume format. The authors do a superb job of linking themes, issues and personalities across the temporal and topographical space.

This book is a excellent source of help for people experiencing the subjects dealt with including date rape, abortion, sexual harassment, and single parenting. It is a moving emotional journey through one woman's life. It shows the strength of a woman in many situations. The poetry is intense and expressive in a unique way with a variety of style and rhythm. I feel this is a must read for all women. It would be an education for most men about what harm their actions can do, and a strong message to them about how a woman can refuse to let it defeat her. Moving intense rollcoaster ride.
