is in this book. Good learning tool for those just starting CAD or need quick catching up. So much reference I used it for ACAD 14 as well.

A very valuable resource to any AutoCAD 13 user.

I have used AutoCAD 13 since shortly after it's release. I purchased this book, over three years ago, and this is the only book I have ever needed as a reference. I would recommend this book for even the most seasoned users.

Excellent resource

I recently purchased Mastering Autodesk Architectural Desktop 2006, by Scott Onstott, and have already found it to be an invaluable resource in my transition from AutoCAD LT 2002 to Autodesk's Architectural Desktop 2006.

Admittedly; I still have not completely finished the book, yet it has already proven to be an essential tool to transition to Architectural Desktop 2006. Previously, the amount of information needed to reach drawing proficiency and remain productive at work has been the primary reason I have not upgraded my AutoCAD platform. It wasn't until I found this book and started the tutorials I gained the skills and confidence to upgrade to such a far superior program.

Without a doubt, one of the book's greatest strengths is its dual functionality. For example, when time permits I can sit down and follow along with the tutorials for an in depth learning experience similar to a classroom type lecture. At the same time, the book is a great reference tool for the times when deadlines are pending and production is essential.

I would give this book and excellent review and recommend it to others in my office.

Bought this book and read it on-line

I bought this book and also bought the privelege of reading it on-line because I normally live in America but am now in Brazil and I had it shipped to My home in America but I found that I was going to be in Brazil for a long while. On the read on-line privelege, I didn't get the info on the DVD so I was kind of stuck but I emailed the Author and he was very nice and put the DVD info on his sight for me so that I could download it and he was very very helpful. This book is outstanding for learning ADT from the ground up. I am a cronic studier and so I have bought many books on learning many things but I think this book is the best of all those that I have studied, not only because of the book itself but for the pleasantness of the Author.

Delightful intro to Japanese matchbox art
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2005-10-18
The most commonplace items of the past occasionally become treasured collectibles today. But miniature advertising graphics that adorned Japanese matchboxes were more striking (forgive the pun) than common as one discovers in this delightful introduction to Matchibako by Maggie Kinser Hohle.

The matchbox labels depicted in forty-two full-color plates are from the collection of designer Naomichi Kawahata. The collection itself spans the 1920s and 30s and provides snapshots of a country in transition and internal turmoil, both embracing and decrying modernist influence of industrialist nations.

Above all, the images in this micro gallery had one intent, to advertise anything from sox to sex. These palm held billboards enticed the holder with promises of "modern" life, euro-hairstyles, jazz cafés with sexy moga (modern girls) or pitched the entaku (yen-taxi) delivering fares anywhere in Tokyo for only one yen.

It is said that "good things come in small packages" as does this superb gallery of 42 plates, with one matchbox label to a page, perfectly frames the near-actual sized labels so that each reproduction appear larger than life.

Another highly unique aspect of Matchibako is the accordion page format, which if you were to unfold would stretch over fourteen feet from cover to cover. Hohle's 4.75 x 4.75 inch art book was not meant for the bookshelf, but to be left in plain view to entice closer inspection in the same way the original matchbox labels delivered their messages over seventy years ago.

East Meets West, a Juxtoposition of Worlds in a Matchbox Cover

This tiny little book is a perfect gift for any Japanophile or matchbox collector. Built like an accordian, its pages exhibit gorgeous Japanese matchbox covers from the 20's and 30's, images like I've never seen before, accompanied by explanations chronicalling why the covers are so unique: they were manufactured during a time when Japan was transforming from traditonal to modern, from culturally-singular to Western-influenced. One panel, for example, shows a Japanese girl depicted in a strikingly untraditional manner, not simply because of the flapper haircut she sports or the cigarette hanging from her mouth, but because of the decidedly cubism-influenced illustration style.

This book is informative of Max Huber, his style, his philosophies and it offers beautiful imagery both color and black/white. We display the series, including OTl Aicher, Josef Muller-Brockmann because they're all the same size and thickness. Phaidon knows what they're doing.

I've had several AutoCAD books but none of them compare to Maximizing AutoCAD R13 by Rusty Gesner, Mark Middlebrook and Tony Tanzillo. The text is very easy to read and understand and includes clear and concise examples and screen shots. I am an experienced AutoCAD user and this is now my AutoCAD bible. The only problem now is I can't wait to get my hands on Maximizing AutoLISP which has been delayed to include Release 14. Excellent job guys

I had very little experience with AutoLisp or AutoCAD programming, but now I am progframming the new accellerator keys and assigning our old R12 AEC lisp routines to the new toolbar feature. This book comes with a CD that creates a developer's environment and guides you through the maze of methods for ACAD customization that now exist and brings you up to speed on the prevoius versions .lsp, .mnu and .pgp file usages which are still supported. This is an excellent book

A must for beginners needing more than the Desktop Tutorial
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 1999-01-14
I found the book well written and to the point. It took me from a new Desktop user to productive in a minimal amount of time. I feel Mr. Banach should be congratulated for writing this book. I searched different sites on internet and it was one of the very few I could find on the subject. Much easier to use more intuitive than the Tutorial in Desktop

Excellent descriptions of the command options.

This is a great book for leaning how to do parametric design in Mechanical Desktop. More than a simple follow the example book. Offers insight about the various options.
