This book comes with cassette tapes that get you actually speaking German (Deutsch). I am an American who has lived in Germany for over a year now. This is the best of its kind, I think it was made in Britian. I want to order it for Mother's Day for Mom, but it seems to take 4-6 weeks to get it, so I will probably send her my copy instead. She is coming to visit for a week in August. This cassette and book set puts the words that you need to travel well in Germany right into your mouth, in conversational context. I am familiar with the excellent (German) in a Week series published in 1989-1993 or so, and this is even a cut above that. This is not a "Ja" = "Yes" tape, it is first learning in context, then "something in German," now how do you respond? They give you time to try, and then provide a good answer. Truly, this earns its name: "Talk German."

First, I'd like to let everyone know that this is a CD Rom ONLY! There is no text or workbook to follow along with. When I had ordered mine, I thought that it was a text and CD Rom, so there was disatisfaction upon opening the box. I liked the ease of operation and the basic phrases and words that were presented. My whole family plays with the CD, and we have already begun to use some of the words in the home. The games are fun and make the learning more interactive and fast.

I give it 5 stars because the course took me from being an absolute beginner to watching danish television. The layout is user friendly and you don't have the hassle of needing to look words up every 2 minutes, it's all explained to you. I also own Colloquial Danish, which is not as great and will not take you as far.

I like it quite a bit. I first found it at the local library and checked it out only to realize it was such a valuable book to have on the German language that I had to buy it for study and reference. I've been a student of the language for six years and still find this work valuable for my personal study, mainly as a reference, though.

Often times you'll read the back of a book and it has the author's or publisher's own view of the work which, of course, praises it and then skim through it only to find out it's terrible, or not at all what you're looking for. Not at all the case with this book.

I can't think of any complaint I have with it. It's valuable for all students of the language who wish to brush up on the language or continue learning after high school study or other classes. What can I say? It's a great book, definitely not for the faint hearted, though. When it comes to study, like all things, do it regularly and with patience and du werdest Deutsch in kein Zeit lernen.

After being given the responsibility of writing RFPs for 11 various I.S. systems, this book was a Godsend as far as given me a great jumping off point and providing me with a great format!

This course is a combination of the regular or basic Think and Talk German and the Think and Talk German Advanced. These sets, while somewhat difficult to come by, are well worth searching for.

This tape and text course takes one beyond the basics of German. As with the regular or basic Think and Talk German series, the tapes are all in German, and they include healthy doses of student participation. Additionally, there are grammar, reading and writing exercises in the text. The text, which deals with contemporary German and Germany, has an adult rather than school or college student orientation. The main text is in German while some of the explanations are in English. The going is not as easy as in the regular Think and Talk series, but it is wonderfully well designed to teach German as it is spoken and used in modern, everyday and business situations. Because of the emphasis on German it really does tend to make one think in German. These sets seem to be difficult to find, but are well worth the search.
