Multimedia Books

I have used Grammarchants with the cassette in my Beginning and Intermediate Adult ESL classes for years. Students have the opportunity to practice pronunciation, increase speaking rates and listening comprehension, and practice or review various verb tenses. Furthermore, students become more aware of syllable stress.

The teacher who introduced me to Grammarchants recommended a three step process. First, students listen to a passage. Literacy and new Beginning Level students could do this step without the cassette. Then the class should do a quiet choral reading of the passage. Repeated playings may be needed. Finally, when the students seem confident, they should be able to read chorally at the the same rate as the tape.

Students also find the dictation execises and interviews to be productive and enjoyable.

I have read a few things by Paul Thurrott in the past and found his work easily digestible and loaded with great examples. This book is no exception.
It was a gift, and even though I don't even run XP on my machine I would feel confident using XP tools to work with my digital media with this book by my side. The subject matter may be a little simple for the real tech heads out there, but for folks just starting to play with MP3s and digital imagery up to fairly advanced users looking for some excellent tips and tricks this is a great resource.

This is a great book on how guitar players can engage in
the wonderful world of computer music. It's all there:
hardware config tips, sequencers, plug-ins, song
structuring, sampling, etc. The communication style of Mr.
Vincent is very easy to follow and the text is written with
a nice dose of humour. Very up-to-date as well. Strongly
recommended.

If you're new to a computer, you're studying something related to computers, you're having trouble with your computer or you just wanna learn something more about it, you don't want to miss this book. It's a gotta have in your library!

If all the information contained in this multimedia software was
in the book it would be over a million words on about 3200 pages!

The Haldeman Diaries: Inside the Nixon White House is a
multimedia CD-ROM containing material from the book of
the same title by former White House Chief of Staff H.R. Haldeman,
along with photographs and movie clips from the Watergate era,
a search function, and an easy-to-navigate interface.

The CD-ROM version of "The Haldeman Diaries" includes unedited
text of Haldeman's personal diaries, which he kept during his
White House years of 1968 to 1973. In addition, it includes 45
minutes of the 27 hours of home movies Haldeman took while in
the White House as well as 700 still photographs many of which
come from the personal scrapbooks kept by Mrs. Halderman.

The CD-ROM also includes the full text of a 120-page letter
Haldeman wrote while he was in jail to Watergate prosecutors
making a case for his innocence. Haldeman spent 18 months in
a minimum security prison starting in 1975 for his involvement
in the Watergate affair.


The Haldeman Diaries; Inside the Nixon White House"
is a CD (compact disk) from Sony that has sparked
a lot of interest among persons who are politically and/or
historically inclined.

This book is a must read for the serious HCI professional. It provides the reader with an understanding of real-world best practices as well as detailed coverage of the key theories. Even though I poured over the first edition while in graduate school I found the new edition worth reading. There are a lot of books by self proclaimed UI experts on the market today. What separates this book from all others is its breadth of coverage and the fact that the authors of each chapter truly are subject matter experts.

Always wanted to learn how to do the webcasts etc... This book showed the way. Simple and easy to follow. A definite practical approach book.
Good buy if you are into making the next Windows media based website.

These ArkAngel Audio CDs really convey the vibrance of Shakespeare's world complete with bawdy screams, clinking glasses in taverns, birds chirping in the forest, etc. It's "Shakespeare for people who hate Shakespeare" in the sense that when you listen to these CDs the meanings of lines and the essence of the play comes across easily by virtue of the inflections in the voices and the circumstances.

Shakespeare is so often mistaught in schools, "overcooked," as it were, in that the endless stream of complexities in individual lines are overanalyzed to death before anyone has developed an overall sense of what's going on in the play. These CDs will give you that sense and much more. The guy who plays Falstaff had me laughing out loud. Also, using a CD like this is not "cheating" -- just the opposite, it is the *right* way to approach Shakespeare because these are plays! They are meant, first and foremost, to be performed, not read. For students I would recommend listening *first* to get an overall sense, then going back and reading, then listening again. Reading will be much more productive and fun, I imagine.
