This is definitely one of my favorite Peanuts collections. I pretty much grew up reading this book. Over the years, it had been read so much that it had fallen apart. I was so happy to see this book in the stores again. If you're a Peanuts fan like I am, this book is a must have for your collection.

This is a great book for any Peanuts fan to add to their Peanuts memorabilia collection. I have been a huge fan of Snoopy and the rest of the Peanuts gangs since I was a child, but somehow Charles Schulz's Snoopy comics have a universal, timeless essence that appeals to people of all ages. Even in my 20's I still enjoying collecting Peanuts memorabilia, and I would recommend adding this book to top of your collection.

Better than most of the other '60s Peanuts collections

Until a few years ago, Peanuts Classics collections were very hard to find except in your local library. But Peanuts Treasury is much better than most of those-better than most of the `60s collections, anyway. Not to say that the Classics books aren't good, but several of the books repeat strips, print the pages backwards, or even repeat stories (or parts of stories). But this collection doesn't do that. Not only that, but this book has about three times as many more pages AND there are more strips per page (five instead of two). A few of the stories aren't finished in this book either, but nevertheless it's a great collection.

One of the best!

This is a highly worthwhile "Peanuts" collection, as it's an unusually [inexpensive] but vast collection of late 50s-early/mid-60s strips that you don't often find in new books, with a lot of wonderful strips in it, and an effort to group them into their original storylines (where applicable) - Sally is born, and Charlie Brown rejoices ("I'm a father!" - and Linus tells Lucy, "You didn't act like that when I was born,") . . . Lucy buries Linus' blanket to prompt him to kick the habit, and Linus is plagued with withdrawal symptoms ("That's the first time I ever dreamed of Hyannis Port!") . . . Linus freaks out when Lucy assigns him to sing "Jingle Bells" at the PTA Christmas pageant - then the new year's pageant ("I will not run around the stage holding a banner reading '1964'!") . . . and, perhaps best, the first time Sally joins Linus in the pumpkin patch - and it's much, much funnier than the TV version ("YOU OWE ME RESTITUTION!!") . . . among many, many others. But anyway, this may be nostalgic for you, too, and even if not, it's still a wonderful book. It's definitely worth it!

Apparently there has been a mix-up: The two "editions" of this book DON'T correspond to each other. I've bought the paperback one, and it does not contain some of the strips mentioned in the review section.

It all starts when Wendell's mom tells him to clean up his room. He goes up to his room and finds a pig lying on his bed eating chips and reading a comic book! Mark Teague's pictures really give us an idea of what's happening. We would be weirded out if there was a pig in our room. We would feel like pigs! It's a great book to encourage people with very messy rooms to clean up!

A little boy does not clean his room. Pigs move in and they together make a mess of things. The boy gets sick of the big mess and asks mom to help. She tells him it is his responsibility. He gets the pigs to clean the room and he helps. Soon the pigs find it too clean and leave.

Imaginative and funny book that teaches an important lesson.

Wendell's mother tells him his room his is looking like a pigsty, but even so he refuses to clean it. Sure enough, real pigs move into his room. He dosen't mind the pigs company... that is, until he finds hoofprints on his beloved comic books. The pigs help Wendell clean his room and finding it too clean for their liking, decide to leave. Teague's whimsical illustrations fit perfectly with the spirit of his story. A great book for those kids who do not want to clean their rooms...and every one else, too.

I read Jeff Vogel's blog long before he signed a book deal. I loved his weekly updates. Priceless stuff.

The book is kind of a "best of" from his first year as a parent. I have bought it for every single one of my friends who has gotten knocked up. The dads love it for sure, and most moms laugh their way through it, too. Don't go looking for Dr. Sears type advice. You won't find it here. But you'll find what you REALLY need to make it through that first year.

The cover is totally cheesy, I was disappointed with that, to be honest. This is definitely a literal case of "don't judge a book by it's cover."

Buy the book. You won't regret it.

This is a great book for the new parent. Mostly because it helps you laugh at those situations that would otherwise make you cry, and know you aren't the only one who has been through it. The author could have had a widow into my house seeing as how scary accurate his experiences compare to mine. Not one to sugar coat anything, or go with the political correct one, the author gives a great representation of what a new parent has to look forward to in a funny and informative way. A great read and sure to be a parenting classic.

Although this book will not help you with any of the practical matters of the first year of your child's life, it does help with the most important thing of all: keeping your sanity when you have a newborn in the house, and letting you know you are not alone.

This is one of the funniest books I have ever read. I laughed until I cried, many many times. Then I loaned it to my sister, and she thought it was so funny that she would call me just to read her favorite bits to me over the phone, and we'd both laugh hysterically.

Vogel just has a gift for picking out the things that everyone thinks or wishes during the first year of their child's life, and putting them on the page with such wry wit that you gasp and laugh at the same time.

I have re-read this book several time (my daughter is now 10 months old), and I still laugh hysterically. You know it's good when it's still funny the third time you read it!

Awesome!

While I'm Dead...Feed The Dog is a black comedy fiction work that is accompanied by an originally scored music CD Soundtrack featuring never before released material. Written by songwriter/music producer and eight time platinum and eleven time gold awards winner Ric Browde, the novel explores teenage angst, love & sex and rock 'n roll in the '70s. Browde, who has sold over twenty million albums has worked with such artists as Poison, Joan Jett and Ted Nugent. From narcoleptic nuns, nymphomaniacs, the Mafia, a huckster televangelist, dying Latin teachers, corrupt school administrators, inept policemen, unscrupulous lawyers, buffoon reporters, half -- witted rock and roll musicians, transsexual record company presidents, drug addicted disc jockeys, greedy family members and the lovely Nina Pennington, this novel is a must for anyone who lived or wanted to live in the '70s as a teenager.

It's not often that humor is so well done and, yet, makes points that are insightful without being preachy. Ric Browde is clearly intelligent and takes on religion, the media, law enforcement, relationships, the music biz and more in a satiric send up that is simply outstanding.

Ric is funny and you can't help but laugh. However, I was compelled to pay attention to the points being made because they were good ones. Through humor Ric gets you to think about things which is always good.

This is a good book with a soundtrack too. The song "I'm stupid and so are you" is hilarious and along with the rest of the CD that accompanies the book it highlights the story being told and makes you enjoy the process all the more.

I received the book for Mothers Day, and jokingly accused my grown-up-sons of contributing ideas to it. It was that easy to share warm hearted memories and stories with family members after I had read it.

A Great Gift to read and save to pass down to the next generation of parents. (God Be Their Mercy)

The purpose of this book is to help children/teens learn the presidents in order. It has silly sayings and mnemonic devices to help one remember. Each president covers two pages. The left side of the page is historically accurate information whereas the right side is a silly saying to help you remember that president and the sayings are linked like a story. If you can remember the story, you should be able to remember the presidents.

Well, I know my Presidents now, that's for sure! I had great fun learning them, too, sitting on the couch with my husband one afternoon. The two of us went through the book, working through it and giggling at the references all the while. It was a lot of fun and we learned every president during the read. I planned to buy it, learn them, and then relist the item. But, I decided to instead hold onto it for when my nieces come over. I am always hunting for new ways to entertain them and this will keep them busy for sure! :) Lots of fun for all ages.
I highly recommend that you buy it and have as much fun as we did, and learn a little something, too! 5 stars!

The best way to learn the American presidents that I have seen
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2006-06-23
This book is the best and most fun ways to learn about the American Presidents that I have ever seen. For each president from Washington through Clinton, there is a brief caption regarding his life and accomplishments. There is also a drawing taken from a photo or portrait, a cartoon style drawing and associated play on words to aid in remembering the name and whom they succeeded. For example, the cartoon for Dwight Eisenhower shows the Eiffel Tower with eyes on it being held by a tree with eyes. The caption is "The tree-man is crawling up the side of a huge tower that has eyes on it. It must be the eyes-on-tower!" The cartoon for Harry Truman, who preceded Eisenhower, shows the tree-man.
One of the best books for learning history and social studies, I strongly recommend this book. If my children were of a suitable age, I would buy it for them.

What a wonderful piece of work! Very reminiscent of Walt Kelly's Pogo. Thought provoking yet, warm, sensitive and charming. It is topical in looking a society - the society of children in school. Pogo was more into politics. This is more into life. Look at what you really have and live it to the fullest. I have to restrain myself and ration it a few pages at a time. I do not want this dream to end!! Thanks Jeff.

Once again, Jef Mallett is proving himself to be the best cartoonist drawing these days. I read him on-line on a daily basis, but reading the cartoons sequentially instead of waiting 24 hours between each one (as they were written), gives the stories continuity.
This is an intelligent cartoon strip with sophisticated yet endearing characters. It is both a statement of the shortcomings of education as well as a hope for its future. And its comments on physical fitness are both poignant and humorous.
Buy this book. Keep Jef Mallett in the cartoon business.

Frazz is simply the best

There is no doubt in my mind that Jef Mallett is the finest cartoonist working in the United States today. When the newspaper comes in the morning, before I get my coffee, before I pet the cat, before I do anything else, I read Frazz.

Then, no matter how things go wrong the rest of the day, I have at least started the day with a smile.

Not only is each strip a well-written, clever (and often startlingly ingenious) bit of good, clean fun, Mallett can draw. As other strips tend towards infantile cartooning, Frazz harkens back to an age when the great cartoonists were also superb artists.

Trust me, if you start reading Frazz, you will be hooked.

Imagine a middle-aged mom wrestling with her two grown sons - over a comic book! I bought the two "Frazz" collections for my husband for Christmas, and had to commandeer them away from our 17- and 20-year-olds so I could wrap them.
Mallett's strip offers "be-a-kid-again" fun; the lovable characters and their escapades are spot-on every time. He also presents valuable attitude checks with a light touch. Our paper does not carry the "Frazz" strip, so finding the books amounted to discovering buried treasure. We all loved every page.

I've been a long-time fan of Bill Mauldins work from WW2. Finally i got myself a copy of "Bill Mauldin's Army" and also one of "Up Front" through a special offer from Amazon.com.
"Bill Mauldin's Army" is a collection of some of Mauldin's best work from WW2 and I truly enjoy the sometimes ironic, sometimes sarcastic but always warm humour he manages to portrait in one single cartoon frame. It is also very interesting that he seldom portraits the enemy (read: The germans) as anything other than a dogface dressed in a different uniform, that must have been very uncommon during the war years.
I strongly recommend both "Bill Mauldins Army" an "Up Front": the first one as instant snap-shots of everyday events during the war, and the later book as a explanation to the first, I find both to be brilliant.

My father (who was part of the occupation of Japan in 1946) had a copy of this book. I grew up knowing Willie and Joe. My nephew likes to look at my copy, and I explain the war as best a civilian might, using the cartoons. He's been looking at them since he was five, and when I got a new copy of the book I let him have my old one for himself at the age of 8 -- I find nothing in there inappropriate for a child. I believe it to be a good introduction to that which it is my personal duty to never ever let the next generation forget, what the Greatest Generation did for us all. And yes it's really hysterically funny, even for a civilian, even for a small boy in the 21st century.

My nephew is too young to know that every year on November 11 in the great Peanuts comic strip, Snoopy the WWI flying ace would prepare to go over to Bill Mauldin's house to quaff a few root beers and swap stories. The inside of this book reprints one of these cartoons, in which Woodstock and one of his little birdie friends are marking the day by portraying -- Willie and Joe!

An awesome collection of a legendary cartoonist

Review Date: 2007-11-16
Bill Mauldin is almost certainly the single best-known cartoonist of World War II. His cartoons, many of which I never saw before they were reproduced in this book, are REAL, they are not the result of some funny gag of some sergeant hanging out 50 miles behind the lines... they are the product of a "dogface," a fellow infantryman who saw things which rang true. Mauldin's Willie and Joe characters look like they've been through Hell because that's the way infantry guys looked after weeks on the line. And the humor Mauldin uses is the same kind of fatalistic humor that one sees in this situation.

This collection also has the added benefit of allowing the reader to see Mauldin's development as a cartoonist, from the ones he did while in stateside training to the postwar cartoons which showed the bewilderment of newly-released Soldiers back to civilian life. The large format of the book does the cartoons justice, a definite improvement over the smaller versions of the same work.

The kids in my son's fifth grade class were all raving about this book, which was a miracle in itself, so I decided to read it for myself. I have to admit, I've been a big fan of Gina Gershon for a long time and it's hard to imagine her writing a kid's book. What a pleasant surprise! The book is well written, the story is clever, and the dialog is hysterical. The main character, Einstein P. Fleet, is a computer geek turned reluctant hero who faces the challenges of a monster theme camp run by aliens with a great sense of purpose and humor. My son has turned me on to a lot of new experiences --- reading Camp Creepy Time was one of them. Looking forward to the sequel.

Einstein P. Fleet has already logged hundreds of hours trying to blow the whistle on baddies. Through his popular blog, The Smoking Peashooter, Einstein manages to spread the word on all sorts of conspiracy theories, and he's even had a lawsuit pending against him since the fourth grade, all thanks to "The Wilson Incident."

Naturally, he questions his parents' motives for sending him to a remote summer camp for eight agonizing weeks, with no Internet access and a limited supply of Twinkies. From the moment he steps on the bus and sees every other camper in a monster costume, Einstein worries that perhaps this particular camp may be much more difficult to deal with than any normal one would be.

Unfortunately for him and his unsuspecting parents, his fears are well-founded...

Chock full of werewolves, vampires, mummies, giant spiders, and greedy mobster aliens, this book provides the same brand of entertainment as a classically cheesy monster film. Highly recommended for reluctant readers.

His parents send him packing off to a monster theme camp smack dab in the middle of the Mojave Desert for the summer ---- which turns out to be merely a stop over on the way to being abducted and sold to an intergalactic monster zoo in another galaxy. The story mixes all types of elements from the science fiction genre and somehow manages to glue them into a cohesive, original plot. It's also funny and very well written, especially for a pair of first time authors. The book ends leaving the door open for a sequel, which I can't wait to read. I highly recommend this book to anyone with a sense of humor. You will be pleasantly surprised.

VERY CREEPY (and funny)!!!

You simply can't go wrong with this wacky zany summer send-up. Einstein P. Fleet, a loner-nerd trapped at a hellish summer camp in the Mojave Desert, leads us through a wild storyline of escape, with monster costumes, vampires, werewolves and aliens all in the mix.

This fast-paced, well-written farce is a quick, irreverent, hilarious read for kids and adult-kids. Highly recommended. It's no surprise that Dreamworks has this story in script development....Can't wait for the movie!

A Charlie Brown Christmas: The Making of a Tradition is a treasure for those -- like me -- who love this Christmas classic. It is a great "behind the scenes look" that includes photos of the cast of characters whose voices are so familiar. Give it as a gift to the "Peanuts Fan" in your life.

While we've been treated to many Charles Schulz documentaries and remembrances over the years, "A Charlie Brown Christmas: The Making of a Tradition" is the first book to focus on the first Peanuts' television special. The book includes in-depth interviews with producer Lee Mendelson, animator Bill Melendez, and Vince Guaraldi's children. This book is the ultimate backstage pass to the recording studio, with interviews with the original child actors who voiced the characters and sang on Guaraldi's "Christmas Time is Here." As a bonus treat, the script and original animation art round out the book.

A Very Nice Collection of Material!

I loved this book! It has material for every fan of the famous TV special, "A Charlie Brown Christmas". I may not be musical, but if you are, this book includes the music. I am fond of the discussions of the people involved in creating the production of the TV show and the script. I will be using the script in my classroom for Reader's Theatre. The book has a lot of material that has meaning for me personally. I was young when this special was shown on television and it was always one of my favorites. The book was not a disappointment to read and own. I am very glad I bought it.

This is the ultimate companion to the tv show. The art work is from the original show and the dialogue is a great bonus! The book is also packed with great trivia and information about the decisions "behind stage" that led to the creation of the ultimate Christmas Special.

"Charlie Brown Christmas" is the crown jewel of Christmas specials. Heavy on holiday introspection, but with the dry wit and humor you'd come to expect from Charles Schulz's creations.

"A Charlie Brown Christmas: The Making of a Tradition" just expands that experience, by outlining how the famed special came to be -- the music, the animation, the voice acting, even the advertisement to get people to watch it. It's a charming, nostalgic little book, and a good accompaniment.

"A Charlie Brown Christmas" was spun up quickly, when Coca Cola wanted a Christmas special in less than a week -- and Charles Schulz's lovable loser Charlie Brown seemed to be the ticket. But the special was made very differently from other cartoons -- 2-D animation, no laugh track, uncutesy kids, and (horrors!) a jazz soundtrack. It was doomed to fail, they said.

Well, instead it became a booming hit, and has been running every December ever since. Lee Mendelson and Bill Melendez reminisce in here about the much-loved Charles Schulz, and about Vince Guaraldi, who made the distinctive piano soundtrack, and why it's so beloved -- it dares to approach holiday ennui and commercialization, then dashes it away with Linus' description of Christmas' meaning.

As for the "making of" portion, there are storyboards, musical scores, test photos, clips of television reviews, and rare photos like Melendez and Schulz doing the football gag. Finally, there is the entire script of the special, framed by colourful stills from the cartoon.

You couldn't wring this much information from most half-hour animated specials, no matter how much fun they were. But it's a bit different with "Charlie Brown Christmas." It was so completely unusual -- and has proved to be so timeless -- that a book on the making of it, and its effect, seems completely right.

It's a very conversational, reminiscent book. It feels like sitting in a room with Melendez and Mendelson, listening to them reminisce about "Sparky." And we also get input from other people involved in the project, such as Christopher Shea (Linus), who talks about his famous "Second Chapter of Luke" speech, as well as odd bits of trivia (the little girl playing Sally had to be fed her lines).

The Christmas special is more than able to stand on its own, but "Charlie Brown Christmas: The Making of a Tradition" is a wonderful accompaniment. Full of interesting tidbits and history.
