Costumes Books

This offer is for a complete set of 6 prints of drawings of Arab Women, drawn in the 1940s and prints published in 1953 by Dar Al-Maaref of Beirut, only 250 Sets were published numbered in English, this is set # 250, and was published as a book entitled "Costumes of the Holy Land". There were only 3,080 published in 1953, mostly in Arabic. To my knowledge and research, this is probably the only complete set, part of the cover is missing, available today for sale, my research found 7 other sets, all in Universities in the U.S. & Britian in their Archive section of their Libraries, which can be viewed in their Archive Room, but cannot be taken out or copied. This set, my research indicates, was purchased in Saudi Arabia and brought to America, since then, many treasures have been destroyed by war & conflict. The Artist is Susan Southby, however, unable to find any other info on the person, except Her paintings/drawings were allowed on Postcards in 1948 to collect funds for the Palestinian Refugee Relief Fund by the United Nations (UNRWA). A few of these postcards are still available today. Also, Print #2, Arab Woman of Safsaf, Safsaf was destroyed in the 1948 Israeli-Arab War, another Print #5, an Arab Woman of Lake Huleh, Lake Huleh, was drained in the 50s for housing. Note, it is possible that this complete set is one of the few complete sets that survived the conflict in that area. The Price is for the Book "Costumes of the Holy Land" which contains the 6 English numbered prints posted here, the paper cover, which is torn & a side strip missing, and the books only discriptive paragraph and numbered book 250.

It's a shame it's not available right now. Julie Taymor has such an interesting and diverse upbringing and amazing resume. This book is beautiful. The costumes are exquisite and belong in the Victoria & Albert museum. Taymor's approach is well worth the read and enhances the theatre experience as well.

This handy book is the most comprehensive collection of Native American moccasin patterns and instructions around. The directions and diagrams are easy to follow and the results are great! (I've made several of the 28 designs already, including a side-seam type, a slipper and a high top.) And the author shows you how to customize the patterns to fit your foot using simple tools like a string, pencil, scissors and a paper bag.

The designs are authentic, spanning the styles of many western tribes. Why buy individual patterns for lots of money each when you can get a nice collection for so little?

The company also puts out an easy to follow video showing how to make several of the patterns in the book, if you want to see the process in action.

The author is no newcomer to those of us who have been sewing for any length of time. Her method of teaching makes it easy for us to make these wonderful one of a kind arty fabrics. She also includes tools of the trade information and takes us step by step through the creation process. A must have for anyone sitting at the sewing machine.

I was pleasantly surprised to pick up this book and be greeted with such clear, detailed, and beautiful photographs. The combination of clothing and art is carefully chosen and illustrates the written points perfectly. I show this book to everyne who comes over, and it has yet to be looked at for less than 30 minutes at a time!

Normally this book is printed on top quality paper with extra photos. You sell paperback. WHY?
