This is another in the marvelous series of high-quality books on the textiles from the Kamei Collection. Published by Bijutsu
Shuppan-sha, and only sold through high-end booksellers, the books provide the serious designer with essential reference to
historical textile designs and patterns.
Chock full of rich color photographs of textile patterns from the Kamai Collection, this is the third volume published: Dyeing and Wallpaper (3).
From the inside flap (of Volume I):
The Kamei Collection dates back to the Meiji period (1868-1912) when it was started by Count Koreaki Kamei, heir to the old Tsuwano Clan of Japan. Th count, who was studying art history and aesthetics in Germany, originally gathered the pieces to serve as reference materials. This comprehensive collection of 19 century European dyeing, weaving, wallpaper, and design patterns for textiles that have all but disappeared today.
Selected pieces from this collection have now been compiled into two volumes : volume I deals with dyeing, weaving, and wallpaper, and volume II with design and patterns. Reproduced in vivid color, these books are sure to become indispensable references for anyone interested in design.
NOTE: Since publication of the first two volumes, the third volume: Dyeing and Wallpaper was added.

Probably the best book published on the history of costume. It should be on the shelf of every costume designer. Fabulous
research and wonderful use of artwork (paintings) to show the historical fashions by date. It is the most comprehensive bible
of fashion history in print today. Can't recommend it more highly. My Costume Design professor wants all her design students
to invest in this book, as it is invaluable in researching historical dress. She's owned it for over a decade and uses it
in the classroom with her students for practically every project.

As a big t-shirt lover, I picked up this book a couple weeks ago. The content features an impressive range of international
shirt design and shirt designers. Nice mix of high-end graphic work, conceptual/arty stuff, etc.
Book is very well designed, also. I'd recommend it to anyone who loves t-shirts or just contemporary design in general. (The first two in this series, 100% Cotton and 200% Cotton, are worthy pick-ups, also.)

This beautiful book can double as a "coffee table" fun-to-look-at one or as a reference. Perfect as a first serious look
at fashion for a young person who wants to know more, or for the beginning designer who enjoys delving into the connection
that society played with fashions. Hundreds of color illustrations using famous paintings and photographs take the reader
from Ancient Egypt through the 1960's.

This text, illustrated with over 120 color photographs and interviews with quilt makers and descendants, is of interest to
scholars of many disciplines and an inspiration to quilters and other artists. Working back, using interviews from the Works
Progress Administration of the 1930s, the origins of African-American and Afro-traditional quilt making techniques are explored
and the "error of omission" in reconstructing a history of American quilt making puts these quilts in a cultural context more
reflective of the quilt makers' traditions and intents. An inspiring book on many levels.

These Dover book/CD ROMs are a graphic designers delight. It's so hard to find good quality graphics that are royalty free, and not end up spending a fortune. Dover has a good selection of royal free images that are presented in a book and are on CD ROM.
The images in the CD ROM is in full colour and so dazzling. 140 large images in TIFF format. Sharp images ready to use. Great for Paint Shop PRO. You don't have to scan, the images are there. You don't have to install some program. Just open them from you CR Rom Drive.
Great resources for writers looking for 50's, 60's and 70's fashions.
