"The life and history of Grey OWL, without Donald B. Smith, is only conjecture." Donald, without a beat takes the reader, from the get go, into a detailed , informative , and throughly documented decription of the life of Archibald Stansfeld Belaney. Like a bible to a preacher, this work is replete with fascinating and delightful insights into a most remarkable character who did, in fact, realize a fantacy. The story of Grey Owl is complex, full of adventure, and quite exciting. Like most men he had some peculiar behavior traits; however, Donald Smith does a sensitive and objective analysis which offers the reader the opportunity to make up his or her mind as to the motives and desires of Grey Owl's heart, mind and inner spirit. The book is so well documented it brings to mind the thought that this work is a masterpiece, and if one has the opportunity to experience the Canada that Grey Owl describes, he or she will come to appreciate, the effort put forth by the author is a work, couched in love; e.g., every question I have raised in the pursuit of the Grey Owl Saga, can be found directly or by implication in this book. I was so moved by it I contacted the author personally. If one desires, especially if he or she has read any or all of Grey Owl's books, to know the facts concerning any and all aspects of his life (G.O.), simply read, and have handy Donald's book, as it will guide you to a deeper appreciation of Grey Owl and his marvelous accomplishments. I am a better person for having read 'From the Land of Shadows' five times. Rich Gralewski, Pres. Jelly Roll Enterprises Santa Barbara, Ca. USA

What a great collection of horrific tales! From Nicholas Grabowsky's shocking story of soul transference, Norm Applegate's intriguing spin on what happens when people get exactly what they want, to Thomas McReynolds' chilling tale of a girl's twisted burial compulsion and T.M. Mason's werewolfen The Town, From the Shadows will have you glancing into dark corners, shivering with dread and lurching in panic at the drop of a pin.
Yvonne Mason's Blood Alley really struck home as an unlucky trucker suddenly finds himself in the midst of a group of werewolves on a lonely stretch of Florida highway and Fran Orenstein's Destiny was excellent, as she told the tale of a young couple caught in a time warp allowing them to converse and interact with the few remaining citizens in Destiny, a town that hasn't existed for a hundred years. I found Sage Sinclair's Bloody Mary's Sister so chilling that it gave me nightmares and Rebecca Benston's Eleven embroiled me in a terrifying cult that seemed interminable.
The Slasher by E.W. Bradfute reminded me of my college days, of those scary walks across campus late at night, where every shadow hid a possible axe murderer and a falling leaf would have me skittering for cover. Kevin Morrison's The Artist was an intriguing mixture of twisted artistic obsession mingled with vampirism and Kathy Blaylock's Night Whispers compelled me to look at my own birth certificate, just to reassure myself that I wasn't the descendant of parents from the netherworld.
To end it all, the reader is led through Kevin Lucia's Killing Time, an excellent story of the convergence of two souls on the brink of an assassination and April Campbell's compelling tale, A Dark Secret, in which a woman unhappily finds herself taken over by the reincarnation of one of the greatest "slashers" in history - Jack the Ripper.
From the moment From the Shadows throws you from the literary bridge of horror, through the screaming descent through worlds filled with werewolves, witches, gypsies, murderers and slashers, this riveting anthology will leave you clawing the nearest chalk board as fear closes your throat and raw terror climbs up your extremities.

Gives a good overview of the pulp magazines, and gives profiles on the Shadow, his agents, enemies, supporting characters, etc. Provides an entertaining critique of the Shadow's multiple "secret identities".
It really is more of a booklet than a full book, so beware of sellers charging high prices.

Linda Zimmermann is one author whose books I seek out, and I can't wait for the next one. She writes the kinds of ghost stories that I always hope to read, but too rarely do because most authors seem to feel they can just regurgitate and speculate to get by. But Linda Zimmermann personally investigates her stories, and they are all new and original - and scary. Yet she always emphasizes the humanity in each story. If you collect ghost books, don't miss this one - it has a photo of a ghost in it that she took, too.

As I read this work by author Danny Lee Ingram I sensed a deep sadness trying to emerge from the pages. I wondered if indeed this was a spirit crying out to understand life in all its forms.
From aging and not being able to lift as much weight in a shovel of snow, to the travels of an unwanted dog who wondered the highway day after day and then was no more.
Poets pen expressions and impressions of their soul, images seen and recorded within their minds and hearts often span the pages of their work. I feel this is the essence of "Glass Cuts The Shadow," indeed a poets rendering of life and the world we call home. Interesting and thought provoking.

This book gives your mind a quick escape. I work full-time and have a 1 year old, so my free-time is very limited. The short stories in Gail's book are easy reading and quick, but at the same time they are thought provoking and heartwarming. The feelings you have when reading a story stay will you all day long. For me, it is the perfect book that can free my mind from the daily grind, even for 5 minutes. I never get tired of re-reading my favorite stories! Take a chance and see for yourself!
