Tight plotting and witty as usual dialogue pack these pages. Overall, the story progresses more in volume 3 than it did in volume 2 which was more of a character study. Similarly to volume 2 which shined a spotlight on 'The Sentry' this volume focuses on 'Spider-Woman' but directly ties into volume 1 and the whole over-reaching arc of 'New Avengers.'

Here we have the quite silly Ronin subplot, a mysterious masked hero that none of them know about except for the boss. The Silver Samuria, ninjas, and other posturing silliness. The best part about this is the Spider-Woman spy saga. She cannot currently tell if she is a triple, quadruple, quintuple or whatever other sort of agent.

Pretty cool ninja fight in the first couple of issues, with some hints about the upcoming Skrull invasion of the Marvel Universe (look really close...). Who's working for who? Does it even matter once the shurikens start flying? The ninja action continues in New Avengers Vol. 6: Revolution! This is the Avengers like you've never seen them before, and that's going to turn some fans off of the series.

Not as good as the first two.

I liked the New Avengers and am a big fan of just about all of them, but I would recommend to stop buying after Book Two. The first one was the the best of the three of them, (then again aren't they always?) but after that the whole plot started to take a downward spiral. The whole plot with the Sentry was ok, but could have made more sense, but I just didn't get the direction this one took. Spider Woman, who I would like to picture as more of a 'tough cookie' character, was made into a dishonest Barbie girl and Wolverine as well was butchered. (Think slob.) Not much attention is given to the characters other than Captain America (as usual)and Spider Woman(great, when she finally gets publicity, it's negative...)

To sum it up, in my opinion, not the worth the money. Read it at a local book or comic store.

The third collected volume of Brian Michael Bendis' New Avengers is nowhere near as good or enjoyable as the first two volumes. In saying that, what we get here in Secrets & Lies isn't bad at all, it's just not as compelling as one would hope. Secrets & Lies starts off in familiar territory with the New Avengers taking on Hydra who is trying to free the Silver Samurai, and leads up to Captain America recruiting a mysterious new member named Ronin. As the TPB continues, Spider-Woman's secrets get revealed, as Cap learns the truth behind the return of her super powers, as well as just who she is working for. The entire synopsis that you just read is actually more interesting than the actual events taking place here in Secrets & Lies, because Bendis just doesn't seem to be that into the story himself. Ronin isn't that interesting of a character in my opinion, and the book focuses on too many single members (particularly Cap) than the group as a whole. David Finch's artwork is his usual great stuff, as is the work by Frank Cho which is featured here as well. All in all, Secrets & Lies isn't at all bad, but Bendis has done much better with the series, and this is his low point so far.

The cover of Rigg and Macnee is the best part of the book.Emma Peel does not appear until page 50. In a delightful scene, Steed summons Emma at 3 a.m. to meet him in a night club. He knows she is approaching by the snapping of every man's neck as they all turn their heads to look at her. When Emma discovers it is nothing urgent, she berates Steed, who signals frantically for the check. Unfortunately, the plot does downhill. The Avengers and Me is charming and a joy to read, Blind in One Ear offers insight into Macnee's highly unusual childhood and the forces that shaped him. Like Dead Duck, there is none of the sparkling repartee, and the plot is dull and pedestrian. The best Avengers novel- Julie Kaewert's adaptation. Is anyone going to reprint Geoff Barlow's avengers novel- The Saga of Happy Valley? Why not ILL (interlibrary loan) MacNee's novel? Then purchase the book if you want to. I wouldn't buy either of MAcnee's novels if I had it to do over again. I would purchase his book, The Avengers and Me. It charms, sparkles and delights. Macnee's novels just disappoint. Terrible plots!

This is J. Michael Straczynski's own reworking of the origin of Doctor Strange. He has updated it for the time period, changed the time period and the enemies early on quite a bit.

Strange is thrust into a role a lot earlier than previously, and gets more than he bargained for, as well as another woman to help him.

Spinning out of the events of Amazing Spider-Man #500, this mini-series finds Amazing Spider-Man and Supreme Power scribe and Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski teaming up with Doctor Spectrum writer Sara "Samm" Barnes to re-imagine the origin of Marvel's sorcerer supreme, Doctor Strange. Make no mistake, this is a re-imagining of his origin, but this is no Ultimate book. Beginnings and Endings begins with young, promising, and arrogant future surgeon Stephen Strange living a life of luxury unaware of his true destiny. After a chance encounter with a sickly, apparently mute young man named Wong, and a tragic skiing accident in which he loses the full ability of the use of his hands, Strange's life begins a spiraling downfall. Unable to find a solution to fix his hands, he encounters a man calling himself the Ancient One, and the course is set for Stephen Strange to become sorcerer supreme: whether he wants to or not. Other characters fans of Strange are familiar with, including the evil Baron Mordo, are here as well, and all together, Straczynski and Barnes weave a more than solid re-imagining of the classic character's origin. Brandon Petersen's pencils are solid for the most part as well, even though some of the action scenes don't look as good as one would hope. All in all, this TPB is more than worth a look for fans of the good Doctor, and it's also a great starting point for new fans to the character.

A bit dull

I am a big Doc Strange fan from the beginning. He's one of my favorite Marvel characters and I was interested to see what this re-imagining of the origin would bring to the table. In the end, while very competent, I was left wondering why it was necessary. The arrogant surgeon angle, while true to the original story, is fairly simple to understand and it does not take 5/6ths of a graphic novel to illustrate effectively. That's a fancy way of saying I found the pacing slow and a bit dull.

There were also some rip-offs from the Matrix (they even site Morpheus as the inspiration for his new look at the end) that left me scratching my head. One character in particular was almost a complete lift of Trinity.

The more I look at the new costume, the more I dislike it. He looks like a pimp. Sure the old version was very loud and more in-line with the color sensibilities of the 1960's, but the new version's use of an overcoat and vest makes him look more than a little silly - like an out of touch older man trying to be "hip".

Overall this graphic novel did not work for me, failing to add anything new and interesting to the Dr. Strange story.

Being a huge fan of both Daredevil and Dr. Strange I can say that without a doubt this is one of the best origin rewrites ever. Don't be surprised when you get half way through it and there has not been a lot of action. Dr. Strange isn't like that. He isn't the "Guns-a-Blazing" Cable or Wolverine, he is more like a smooth bourbon that only gets better the more it settles. Enjoy.

Re-imagining of Doctor Strange!

Review Date: 2006-04-29
The book serves as a reimagining for the orign of a classic character. I've been a Doctor Strange fan for a longtime and always felt the good doctor was somewhat...unappreciated by his peers in the Marvel Universe, and this book helps show all readers who the character is and all he stands for and has gone through. There are some problems with the story, such as with the character Clea. Clea is introduced as somewhat of a guardian figure, who spends all her time playing babysitter for Doctor Strange and giving him alot of "tough love" that seems a very forced relationship (plus her ties to Dormammu are never fully explained). Also, is the fact that Strange is injured in a skiing accident rather than the classic automobile incident (that fate instead befalls his college professor). And finally is the idea that Ancient One does not die, and the sanctum is already located in New York City (it was not until Strange had achieved the title of Sorceror Supreme for himself that the Sanctum had been located to New York). Still though, this shouldn't divert anyone from the aspects that make the book truly great. You discover the sacrifices that Strange had to make in order to become Sorceror Supreme, the truly demonic entities (demon such as Dormmamu and human like Baron Mordo) that inhabit our world and what the Ancient One's true purpose is, and see Starnge's fall from grace (as he squanders every last cent he has) and eventual rise to true "hero-hood". Altogether, this is a good story for a great character. If you're a true Doctor Strange fan, check out this book!

I have a '98 Cirrus with 2.5 engine. I bought the manual for guidance in changing spark plugs. The removal & installation section on page 1-39 and 1-40 only addresses the front 3 plugs. It is obvious by looking at the engine that something (the intake manifold plenum) must be removed in order to get to the back 3 plugs. By going to pages 3-23 & 3-24, the engine repair section, removal of the plenum is discribed. Is all of this necessary if the ultimate goal is just changing the plugs? Can the fuel line and the throttle body stay connected while the plenum is moved to one side? Maybe trial and error with provide the answer.

Ms. Marvel in the Civil War
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2007-05-08
As the Civil War between the heroes for and against the superhero registration act rages on, sides are chosen. For Carol "Ms. Marvel" Danvers, her side is with Tony "Iron Man" Stark. As Iron Man takes on Captain America and his rebels, Carol teams up with Hank Pym, Wasp, Wonder Man, Arachne, and others standing with Iron Man that are for the registration, in training a new generation of S.H.I.E.L.D. approved super humans. Unlike the Amazing Spider-Man and Fantastic Four Civil War tie-in TPB's, the Ms. Marvel chapter doesn't really give the reader anything they won't see or learn in the main Civil War storyline. Not to mention that there are some apparent plot holes and inconsistencies to be found here as well to boot. That being said, there is some solid art to be found in this pretty short TPB, mainly by Mike Wieringo, but like many of Marvel's recent TPB collections to be released, this is not necessary or worthy of a hardcover edition. All in all, Ms. Marvel's chapter in the Civil War may be worth a look for completists, but leaving it on the shelf won't hurt you either.

I wasn't expecting much here. After the first collection, I was still trying to decide if this character and her story were compelling enough to justify her own solo book. I was quite pleasantly surprised to find myself engaged throughout this whole collection. Once Mr. Wieringo picked up the pencils, I was hooked. There were a few holes in the plot, as the appearance of the House-of-M Ms.Marvel (Warbird) seemed rather improbable, but despite a shaky set up, the story held together because of the believable characterizations of the heroines.
Altogether this was better than the first collection, and recommended. I did miss the covers by Frank Cho....

This is a good start to what seems to be a promising title. It seems a bit rushed at times and that's because it had to be re-written at the last minute when Marvel decided to make this a mini instead of an ongoing. All-in all, a good start with plenty of winks to old school Alpha Flight fans.

this arc is ok, i dont really see how someone imitating iron man and murdering people can cause him to be 'disassembled' , because its happened before in one way or another, in the way the rest of the team was, or thor was, for that matter. but its still a good story, the artowrk is a little bland and lame for my taste. i'm so glad the arc after this (extremis, after the series gets re numbered) came out, that really changed the character for me. my whole life up to and including this arc, iron man was smart and cool but he was not always at teh top of my list of 'OH MY GOD new iron man this week!!!!" type of deal. now he is, good times!

With Brian Michael Bendis disassembling the Avengers, Mike Oeming killing Thor, and Robert Kirkman wreaking havoc on Captain America, Mark Ricketts got the assignment to disassemble Iron Man. Taking place after Tony Stark's tirade at the United Nations, Tony finds himself accused of murder after someone wearing Iron Man armor murders his board of directors. Eventually, it becomes clear that someone has got their hands on Tony's technology, culminating in a showdown between Iron Man and the murderer. Out of all the Disassembled storylines, this is probably the weakest. Ricketts' storytelling doesn't go anywhere, and the art by Scott Kolins is really nothing to write home about. The epilogue sets the stage for the Iron Man relaunch (yes, he's getting relaunched yet again) under the helm of Transmetropolitan and Hellblazer scribe Warren Ellis (and trust me, it's real, real good). Iron Man Disassembled isn't bad though, and it is worth a look at least.

Iron Man shows some steel...

Review Date: 2005-02-18
Iron Man Disassembled is the beginning of a steady return to greatness for the Marvel mainstay. The recent redirection of the Avengers and Avengers family of books are causing some controversy amongst fans. Personally, I think of it as a return to basics with these characters. Strip away the artifice, the past 15 years of "new directions", and rediscover what makes these characters resonate 40-odd years since their creation.

The Iron Man chapters are especially interesting because the creators (Ricketts, Harris, and others) understand that it's not the armor or technology that make the comic interesting, but Tony Stark himself. Tony is so insulated from the outside world, that when he puts up those iron walls, the people he cares about end up getting hurt, emotionally and/or physically. The subplot with Hap and Pepper points out especially well why Tony needs people, not just his super-brethren, as friends. He needs people to keep him grounded, and help him through anything life should throw at him, whether it be the villian du jour, or an alcoholic relapse scare.

The only drawback is that the artwork is not consistent in this book. I've always been a fan of Tony Harris's artwork; it's expressive, even when Tony's in the armor, and borders on realistic. Especially when it comes to the female form; when he draws women, they aren't the gravity-defying fantasies of lesser artists. Tony's girlfriend has a little bit of a poonch at the belly, her face creases when she smiles. Yet Scott Kolins artwork is sketchy, even ugly, and his work just looks like it lacks effort. I know some people like his artwork, but personally, I find it amateurish, and actually takes away from the impact of the climax. Kolins weak art is saved only by the writing, which I'm happy to say has been greatly improved in this title.

Very satisfying read, and an interesting side trip in the Avengers Disassembled storyline. I can't wait til Warren Ellis' and Orson Scott Card's Iron Man works are collected. This is a very exciting time for Shellhead, and this is where it starts.

This book is filled with more information about the Hulk and the Avengers then I could find on any online source. It has a lot of new profiles for heroes and villains encountered by both the Avengers and the Hulk, which naturally leads to a few villains and heroes that have encountered other Marvel characters like Scorpion and Shocker from Spiderman. It's also got a lot of new actions, options, modifiers, and a few advantages, disadvantages, and challenges. It's as big an upgrade to the game as the guide to the X-men was if not bigger. The only thing I thought I would get that I didn't was a better description of Asguard and other magical realms. Oh well, aside from that, it's a great upgrade.

It really ties up a lot of things from the first 3 like a concluding story, but then does a good job of leading to the next main event in Marvel. A few parts were not so well done (ok, why are there 2 Ms. Marvels? Is that a psycosis?) I really like Agent Sum and Anya, and it leads to some possible spin offs with both. A little disconnected, but overall a good read!

While not a masterpiece, this book maintains the half-serious half-tongue in cheek-y tip set with the previous chapters in the relaunch of the "Ms. Marvel" character.
Before we are led to an enormous cliffhanger, we get two arcs here: one featuring ol' FF foe the Master Of Puppets (who has relocated in Chile) and the other explaining one of the big mysteries Brian REED had set in previous volumes. We also get to see Machine Man's welcome return after he had gone AWOL due to the interruption of the brilliant "NextWave" series. If you love Dan SLOTT's work on She-Hulk, you should enjoy REED's Ms. Marvel.
