Horror Books

I absolutely loved this series of books and I can read them over and over! While yes it is a little hokey and rather unbelievable when it comes to an actual follower of Wicca, it is still a fun series. As long as you don't take it too seriously and remember to just have fun with it you will get swept away by the characters and their struggles and triumphs.

I love the books in the Wicca series (or Sweep in the US). I've read them all, and I'm trying to read them all again. I remember that Awakening was always one of my favourites, and it was one that really got me in to the series. I love the eventual happy ending in this book and in the entire series.
I liked Hunter and Morgan coming to terms with having feelings for each other. I love the touch with the Morganite at the end- if only people would actually do that!
The series is wonderful, as soon as I read the first, I bought some and got some from my local Library- I got 4 out at a time, and was up until three in the morning attempting to finish them.
I strongly reccomend anyone who liked the other 4 to read this one, and people just generally interested in Witches and Vampires etcetera.

I've only recently begun reading these books, now when I think about it, I should have read them earlier!
I can relate to Morgan. She has a best friend who gets alll the attention, has low self esteem, and isnt considered a 'popular' girl. Neither am I. This book is so cool because she is trying to accept her new identity and learn to live without Cal. When she fell in love with him, she was happy. Then he betryed her. Used dark magick against her. Tried to kill her! I mean, you have to agree with me, he was a really nice guy. And in some way, he does love her. And I know she loves him. Anyway, this was a great book and would make an excellant movie.

Awakening starts off quickly.
Morgan is seeing more of Hunter and it annoys her a little. Morgan and Hunter are still gun powder touching a flame. But every thing starts to simmer down when weird things are happening to the both of them.
Morgan sees more of friends and learns dark secrets that she does not want to be part of.
I especially love this book more than some becuase soemthing happens that makes you either smile from ear to ear or make your jaw drop. Read it!

I purchased the Sweep series for my 13 year old daughter in the hopes that maybe she would read. "She hated to read." Well I was amazed, and could not get her to go to sleep, as she would spend the whole night, with a night-light on reading these books. She enjoyed them so much, and could not stop talking first about Cal and then Hunter, that I had to see what all the fuss was about.
Well after two weeks, a book a day, for a girl who hated to read, it sparked my curiosity, so I started reading, and was surprised to find out how enjoyable a Teen book about Teen Witches could be. I am not really into Wicca, but these books are really enjoyable. I am on my fifth book, and my daughter read each twice, and is know on the Circle of Three Series. I have to highly recommend these books to those parents who can not get their daughters to read. These are excellent stories, full of fantasy, horror, and fun.

I will say that Philbrick and Harnett wrote this book with filling. Because of the way it is told. I was glad I read this book on the weekend because i could stay up, this book made me realis how scarry I can get. I would recommend this book to everyone.

I'm a boy in Mr.Wells 5th grade class. My name is Vince and I like this book because it's really creepy. I am 10 years old. This is a great book full of spine chilling action. I like this book because it gave extreme details about the characters and other features. If I was in Jays' position I would go mad. It had an extremely exciting plot. It was mainly about a Witch trying to get a jewel. Now let me tell you about the setting. It was a great, creepy setting. I like how it sat on a hill with whispering pines surrounding it and a lake setting in back of the creepy old house. This made it seem like it was alive. Tha battles between Bobby and the witch were dtailed and terrifying. They were great battles between good and evil. I recommend the book because it gave me chills.

My name is Cassie I'm a girl in Mr.Wells fifth grade. I go to a school in Arizona. I'm10 years old all most 11 years old. Ireally liked the book because I got goose bumps.I was still scared when there are even other kids in the room. It was dark and the Author did a good job she made the book be real. Jason is 12 years old in the book . He is very brave to go down in the basement. If I went down there I would freaked out. Sally is 4 years old she's Jason's sister.She has an imagenary friend name Bobby.Sally is sometimes annoying. One of the characters to watch for isTHE WITCH! She is so mean . She lives in the basement.The witch needs a bath and to brush her teeth.

The book The final Nightmare is a book full of excitement. It is a book that you just can't put down. I highly recomend it. on a scale of 1-10 I would rate the book an 11. If you're looking for an exciting book, read The Final Nightmare. Rodman Philbrick is a wonderful author. When you read the book it feels like you're there.

Youngsters eight and younger will love this spooky children's tale about a little old lady who refuses to be afraid of "things" following her through the woods on her way home. "The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid Of Anything" is simple, fun, and excellent for kindergarten and first grade kids to practice their reading skills on. It works even better as a tale read to a child. My daughter loves it when I read this story to her and put emphasis on the noises that each of the old ladies' followers makes. From "Clomp, Clomp" to "Boo, Boo," my daughter giggled her way through this story. There's just enough spookiness to the story to keep kids a tad antsy, but the resolution eventually makes everything okay.

I highly recommend this tale to anybody who has a child eight years of age or younger and stress that this story works best if it's read to the children instead of having them read it. Author Linda Williams has done a nice job of making a lightly spooky tale for youngsters and Megan Lloyd's dark and moody (though somehow amazingly fun) illustrations only add to the tale's atmosphere. It's a fun Halloween tale that works on any night of the year.

We pull this one out in the fall. The story is great for standing up and moving around -- clomp, clomp - wiggle,wiggle - shake, shake - clap, clap - nod, nod... plus, there's a great surprise (which we shout out VIGOROUSLY!) and a happy ending. It's one of our best fall books.

This is one of my all-time favorite children's books. It is an interactive book and I suggest everyone who reads it to a child or group of children get them on their feet and acting it out. Much fun and laughter!

This book is great for the fall season. The writer gives suspence with bravery.

Teacher at day school introduced us to this imaginative book. Both of our children absolutely adore it.

The concept of this book intrigued me and so I was anxious to read it when it came in. I started and finished it in the same day because I just couldn't put it down. I was impressed with the subject matter (the supernatural has always fascinated me, but it is very difficult to find supernatural writing from a Christian perspective). The characters are well written and believable and I must say that the settings are pretty amazing as well. It starts in one part of the world and ends in America and I felt like I took the trip with them. I did figure out one of the mystery parts in advance but that didn't take away from the rest of the story.

I am really looking forward to the next book in the series which is supposed to come out this year. If you like the supernatural or have teens that do, then you would love this book!

"Never Ceese" is the tale of a vampire and a werewolf who seek what we all seek deep down in our souls...redemption. Both were cursed unwillingly, and both have fought all their VERY long lives to never pass on that curse to another, but to cling to their beliefs that were ingrained in them as children.

Ceese finds herself lured to the castle of Penelope and Richard against her will, not certain what she will find once she arrives there. Richard isn't fond of visitors of any kind, and especially not visitors of Ceese's nature.

But Penelope persuades them both to accept one another and that they can help the other break the curse that binds them, thus giving them the ability to choose their own final destiny.

I know it sounds so far fetched that two of the most unimaginable creatures and most make-believe beings could have such strong desire for the things of God...but believe me, IT WORKS! And it makes the lure of God's redemption all the more powerful to see it played out in a work such as "Never Ceese".

This book will stretch your imagination to its farthest reaches, and almost make you believe...but not quite, because believing in something Sue writes so well is just, well, not something I find myself wanting to do!!

I'm giving "Never Ceese" five out of five bookmarks, with a tiny cross as a charm...because that is where our destiny changes, no matter who we are or where we're from. It all starts and ends at Calvary.

Ceese has also carried her curse for ages and she wants nothing more to be rid of it once and for all. Richard has long ago given up hope of ever being free from his curse and Ceese must convince him to hope again. Now vampire and werewolf must work together to discover a cure for the immortal curse that binds them both.

Sue Dent has done what few have dared to try, mixing elements of vampire and werewolf lore with themes of faith and spirituality. The result is an intriguing and exciting piece of fiction that is obsessively readable and entertaining on every level. Richard and Ceese are cleverly crafted characters who face insurmountable odds in their quest for redemption. Dent adds to the richness of the story by giving equal balance to both werewolf and vampire mythology. Many of these elements were familiar to me, with a few surprises that only added to the mystique of each character. The incorporation of faith is never forced and fits seamlessly into the storyline, making the messages of sacrifice and redemption that much more powerful in the end.

Never Ceese was a pleasant surprise to me and if it wasn't for Eric Wilson's Amazon review, I never would have picked it up. It's a shame that major CBA publishers aren't willing to pursue more "outside the box" fiction like Never Ceese. I'm glad to know there are publishers out there (like Writers' Cafe Press) who are willing to give these types of stories the recognition they deserve. I can't wait to sink my teeth into the sequel, Forever Richard.

I just finished reading Sue Dent's tale of Never Ceese. I think the other reviews have already covered just about everything that can be revealed without giving too much away, so I will have to be satisfied in saying I thoroughly enjoyed the book. Normally, I am not one to read about vampires and werewolves; not my cup of tea. Other people, however, gave rave reviews that had me very curious. I was suspicious, but Ms. Dent has successfully blended the creatures of horror stories with sound Biblical principles. It teaches about faith and love without being preachy. Much of the subject matter is dead serious (forgive the pun), but Ms. Dent has included plenty of comic relief. Really, I love her offbeat sense of humor. I read it rather quickly since I couldn't put it down for long.

At first? Reluctant. Next? Intrigued. By the second page? Thoroughly engaged. Sue has brought the urban mythos of vampires and werewolves to the spiritual plane. She causes her readers to delve into tragedy while hoping for redemption. Bravo! I eagerly await the promised sequel.

This book is undoubtedly one of R.L. Stine's finest anthologies. It is awesome and consistently scary. So many of the stories are really terrifying. Here are some my favorites:

"Pumpkinhead" 9/10: Great story. I won't give too much away, but it's about a kid, his friend, and his brother who get more than they bargained for when they go pranking in a pumpkin patch.

"Nightmare Inn" 10/10: What can I say? This has it all. Werewolves, creepy inns, and weird receptionists. Great ending, by the way.

"I'm Not Martin" 10/10: This was my all-time-favorite of the book. My score really doesn't do it justice, seeing how absolutely nerve-wracking and disturbing this story is. I won't ruin it, only that you, no matter how much you are desensitized to horror, even you will get at least a moderate fear of hospitals. This will scare you even more than that buckets-of-gore movie "Hostel". This should be make into a big blockbuster summer movie.

"Afraid of Clowns" 9/10: Let's just say you won't want to be a clown's "assistant". EVER.

"The Dead Body" 9/10: Definitely had an awesome twist ending. That alone is worth reading this story for.

That, in a nutshell, is what I think of the book. At first, I thought it was just a wimpy kid's horror book; but after reading it, I loved it. Definitely one of the, if not the best R.L. Stine anthologies ever. I thought I have just one more thing to say: BUY IT. NOW.

This is a really excellent short story book. Each story is very original, and the art is really crazy for the books. The story synopsis are below, and the rating, just to give you an idea of what they're about.

1. Pumpkinhead: 5/5 - A crazy tale of three kids who go to a pumpkin patch at night, and the terror that lurks within. A pretty awesome tale.

2. Alien Candy: 4/5 - A strange and bizarre tale of an alien lover's club and the truth behind the kids.

3. The Most Evil Sorceror: ?/? - This probably doesn't help, but I didn't read this one. Oops!

4. Nightmare Inn: 5/5 - A pretty humurously scary tale of an abandoned inn where a young girl and her mom are renovating, and the truth about what lies within, and the truth about the nice woman who owns it, Priscilla.

5. I'm Not Martin: 6/5 - Super original tale that is so deeply distrubing because it COULD HAPPEN TO YOU!!!

6. The Black Mask: 5/5 - Almost like a mini book about a group of friends who feel that they can see the fatal past of a group of kids through a black mask found in the basement of the main character's new home.

7. Afraid Of Clowns: 4/5 - Me, being a total freak-out when it comes to clowns, didn't want to read this story, but when I finally did, it was pretty crazy!

8. The Dead Body: 5/5 - This one had a very Twilight Zone-esque feel to it. It was pretty awesomely put together.

9. Make Me A Witch: 4/5 - A pretty freaky tale about a girl who wants to become a witch. Pretty freaky!!

10. The Ghostly Stare: 4/5 - A pretty awesome story about what happens in a graveyard at night, told from the POV of a girl and her brother. The ending is pretty strange and a little unexpected, but still a great story.

Sorry about number 3. I'm gonna read it right after this review. Otherwise, I hope you get the picture and buy the book because it's really awesomely cool and fun and terrifying to read at night!

This was a really fun book to read. Each story is different. Each story is scarey. If you loved Goosebumps... this is better. Highly recommended.

R.L. Stine is one of the best authers that i have had the pleasure of reading. Even though this book is for kids, i am still reading it at the age of 16. i still get goosebumps from reading his stories.

Genre: Scary
Three Sentence summary: There were a lot of character but the main ones were Pumkin head, The black mask, and The ghostly lady. The problem was that they were scaring people and being thiefs. The last time they were seen was in a dark cemetary.
What I liked most about the book: I liked the stories in it because they felt real.
What I didn't like and why: I did not like the ending of some stories because they were not that good.
My favorite character and why: My favorite character were the allien bugs because they were bad and thiefs.
The scene,line,or passage that meant something to me and why (page#): "He was a very good friend". Because it tells you there are good friends and bad friends and you have to appreciate the good ones. Page.121
What I would say about this book to someone else: I would say that this book is worth reading because it keeps you in suspense, and it will scare you.
One question i have after reading this book: How does R.L Stines come up with this book.
My strongest reason for recommending this book: It's a good, mysterious book that will scare your pants off.

The story starts out with Teresa running away with a change of clothing in her overnight bag. She picks up two hitchhikers which she wouldn't normally do. But, there was *something* about them. Coincidentially enough, they are all headed up north. Teresa is not exactly sure where she is going, but she wants to make a new start. As the story unfolds, you find that she is leaving an ex-boyfriend, and ex-friend, and unsupportive parents behind.

As the road stretches out before them, they have no need for "canned entertainment" as Freedom Jack puts it, they can tell stories to each other. He begins to weave the tale of Candy and John, as Poppy Corn sits in back, smoking her cigarette and correcting Free's story at various times.

Teresa feels that these two are connected in some way, but she is not sure how. Brother and sister? Scorned lovers? They reveal much about Candy and John, but little about themselves.

Teresa shares her own story about being the victim of betrayal, but she still holds secrets that she doesn't even know yet.

This page turning story takes place in one night as they head through California and encounter a castle with a fortune teller and a strange church at 5 in the morning where people are wandering around and the mass is in Latin.

Will Teresa find a place to go or is she on a "road to nowhere?"

The story was almost perfect for me. The buildup was amazing as it only took me three hours to read. The ending, though not as exciting as the story and something I saw coming, was still entertaining. I was impressed with Pike's ability to keep me enraptured the entire time.

Highly recommended as one of Pike's best!

Life couldn't have been any better. You have a caring, wonderful boyfriend, a awesome job, and a best friend that could have been no more perfect. At least that's how it seemed to Teresa until, she found the truth. Christopher Pike's Road To Nowhere is a book that can keep you guessing for miles. The events take place in the southern part of California on some back roads that hold no traffic. Most of the book it is raining and when it's not raining it still seems like it is. The three main characters are Teresa, Freedom Jack, and Poppy Corn. Teresa is running away from home and picks up two hitchhikers along the way to somewhere she doesn't even know. The three begin to tell stories. Teresa about her past relationship, Freedom of a boy named John and Poppy of a girl named Candy. The story gets deeper and deeper as the flashbacks go on.

Pike puts some hints to the end in the middle and the beginning of the story without actually giving the ending away. What seems to be a mystery soon turns into a horror. The action really doesn't kick in until the second chapter but it is completely worth the wait. Pike knows how to show the emotions of the characters to where he makes you feel the same way. This book makes you want to drop everything else and read until the jaw dropping ending. The twist and turns the book takes are just like road in the story...unpredictable.

I would recommend this to 7th grade and up. I would also recommend some of Pike's other books. Such as The Hollow Skull and Monster. So hop in the car and join the road trip as you let some harmless stories unfold on to your lap.

Christopher Pike has done it again, His Novels keep you reading untill the very last page, his story lines capture you and you know you just want to find out what happens in the end. Road To Nowhere is yet another one of these books I had to read it all in one sitting. The day it arrived in the mail I started to read and I couldn't put it down... Road To Nowhere rocks!!!

I am sure if any of you love this book you will love his other books the Immortal, Whisper Of Death,The Starlight Crystal, Execution Of Innocence, The Visitor to name a few and The Season Of Passage and The Listeners for Adults also by Christopher pike

I am not a fan of Christopher Pike because in most of his books it starts out good and then toward the middle he goes off subject and start talking about Aliens, Monsters and Outter Space. But this time Chis Pike actually STAYED on subject, and this book was out of this world!
The main character Theresa is a run away after finding her boyfriend cheating on her with her best friend. While driving in the rain, Therea spots 2 Hitch Hikers ( Poppy Corn and Freedom Jack) she desides to pick them up (big mistake)... I am not going to tell what else happened in the book because you have to read it yourself.
This book really makes you think about Life after Death, Heaven and Hell and Angels and Devils.

Ok, imagine this. Your just found out that your boyfriend is dumping your for your best friend. Your totally pissed so you decided to take off. You pack some clothes, grab some cash, and your gone. Then along the way you meet two peps with totally screwed up names Freedom Jack, and Poppy Corn. you agree to give the hitchhikers a ride. along the way the three of you beging to tell stories. You tell of your boyfriends betrayl, and they tell of a guy and girl they once knew.
Along the way you begin to feel an undeniable attraction for Jack which is finally consummated at his "mother's" House. You then procede to travel on and meet Poppy's "father" the priest. then you continue to drive despite the fact you now feel sick. Then the memories of what else happened that night slowly come back to you, and you relize that your two hitchhikers are not what they seem, that the stories they told are closer to them then you ever relized, and now you are in a battle for your very soul...

This book was given to me and now I am addicted! Skin Deep is intriguing, fast paced, and a mind game that will send a chill up your spin. Edge of your seat read! I hope the great works keep coming!

and the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that I was able to figure out a bit too much as it raced along...Having said that I would definitely recommend this as it is not only a fast-paced read, but the reader gets into it immediately, does not want to put it down until the very end, and at that point is able to acknowledge a satisfying read.

On a personal level, I do have trouble with medical descriptions, but when a book is a good read, I have no trouble skimming without feeling I've lost something of the plot...and this one is no exception.

For those of you out there who love reading medical mystery/suspense,
let Bill Clem give you a quick and satisfying read...."Skin Deep" is my first ever Clem novel, and "Presidential Donor" is waiting for me on my bookshelf. Also, I have every intention of hunting down the first two books in his Holland Carter series, namely: "Diencephalon" and "They All Fall Down".....I'm sure I'll be a happy camper once more.

This book is so exciting you cannot put it down. Bill Clem is a great writer. He knows how to make a great ending.

Flesh eating bacteria, plastic surgery, revenge. What more could you ask for in a medical thriller. This book is a cut above most medical thrillers I've read lately. It is not bogged down with too much medical jargon like many(read: Robin Cook)and the author doesn't waste a word. It's proof that a novel doesn't have to be long to be great. You won't be skipping pages on this one, I guarantee you. Enjoy!

This was one of several that I have read and as with all of them I couldn't put it down. Keeps you on the edge of your seat! Keep up the good work and keep them coming. Can't wait for the next one.

It was day 157... and it was raining... or at least Amy hoped it was.

Thats how the story unfolds, and I have to tell you seeing this book again after all these years is like seeing a friend I haven't seen in a long long time.
The story is great. Listen, ya'll don't know me, but if you are looking for a book to let your kids read, or to read to your kids, this is it. I read it often in 1981 I also recommend two other books, "The Children of Morrow" also by HM Hoover, and "A Wrinkle in Time" by Madeline L'Engle.

This book was the first book I felt I could not do without. I checked out this book from my elementary school library in the 5th grade.. and never took it back. I didn't want to let it go. I was so nervous that I saved my allowance money and bought the book from the library when I told them I lost it.. when I was 10. I am now 32 and still have that book on the shelf. It is a truly wonderful story and will help your (or your childs) imagination run wild.

A Non-Workbook, Non-Textbook Approach to Teaching Language Arts: Grades 4 Through 8 and Up

I first read this as a child, and it was one of several books that really made an impression on me. Every couple of years I would hunt it down through the local library, and it never lost its impact, even reading it as an adult! Finally, through Amazon, I was able to buy it for myself, and it will always have a place of honor on my bookshelf.

The story may have been labeled for young adults, but don't let that stop you from reading it! The writing is excellent, the plot is intriguing and moves swiftly. The ideas presented are thought-provoking and will have you thinking about the book long after you've finished it.

It's vaguely science fiction, set on a futuristic Earth, in a crowded, self-contained city -- one with no sunlight, no grass, no flowers, no beauty, no hope. Intelligence is frowned upon, reading is forbidden, life has little meaning. Then a boy appears and claims to have come from somewhere else, somewhere with bright sunlight and wide open spaces! Only one girl believes him, and together they set out to escape the dismal walls of her city, to find the impossible freedom of his home. Along the way they make some startling discoveries about the world they live in and the choices their ancestors made.

In a far-flung future, the people are told the air above is too polluted to breathe-there is nothing left on the surface anymore. All that exists is the crowded underground city. Eleven-year-old Amy has always been the curious sort, but she has learned to hide her curiosity-and the fact she can read-from the adults who watch her. This is a rollicking preteen SF tale by H.M. Hoover that I found back in the eighties and was one of my favorites. Though this was originally published in the eighties, Hoover's ability to conjure up a another kind of world, to tell the kind of stories that speak to the reader and spark their imagination still shines through-so it's unsurprising that so many of her books are being reprinted for a new generation of young readers to discover and enjoy. Hoover herself confesses in her bio that she wrote the kind of stories she enjoyed reading as a child-what better way to capture an audience? THIS TIME OF DARKNESS encapsulates the idea of a strange, oppressive future society with appealing preteen protagonists. Readers journey with them as the discover the way out of the darkness, but will the watchers allow them to find freedom and hope in the world?

Many will want to pick this book up out of nostalgia-having read this when they were kids-to revisit the story they remember, and maybe to share with their children who are just encountering science fiction for the first time.

This story is perfectly tailored to its audience, and while some of the future technology may feel a little dated since publication, the overall themes hold up well, and deliver their message of hope and perseverance admirably. If you are encountering Hoover for the first time, look for some of her other SF classics, like THE WINDS OF MARS, ORVIS, or my favorite, THE LOST STAR. For books in a similar vein, you might also check out THE CITY OF EMBER by Jean Duprau and DEVIL ON MY BACK by Monica Hughes.

This is a wonderful book. Our main character has just gone to live with her uncle while her mom is away. She meets friends, and is wary of her uncle and his messy house. especially when she finds a surprise in her bed. And, to top it all off, a murderer called the Vampire is on the loose. Police are baffled. Soon, our character finds SHE will be the next victim. the ending is surprising, and very good. this is one of my favorite books.

I love her work. richie is my favorite author of all time. This is the first book from her I read. I still have the book and always read it when I get bored. Darcy Thomas was dumped by her mother, who had a "honeymoon" with a new fifth husband in Europe. The plan was to leave Darcy at her aunt's place but her laywer aunt was busy on a business, so Darcy was dropped to her unknown Uncle Jake, an uncle she had never know, just only heard of by her mother. And what she heard wasn't very pleasant. When she met Uncle Jake she was very surprise because he was young, around 22 or 23, not much older than her. She met his friends Kyle and Liz. Liz was mean to her because she used to having her way before Darcy came. Kyle was nice to her. So was his bestfriend Brandon, who was interest in Darcy. Liz was jealous of Darcy since she was liking Brandon. Then there was Elliott, whom seem to be watching her all the time but nobody see him except her. He appeared almost everywhere she goes. Jake was always nervous when he was around her, almoat afraid of her. Then there were these murders with girls and the culprit always leave his signature behind: a vampire dots on the girl's neck. Darcy thought someone was watching when she went to bed and it turn out that there was. She found the lipstick that use for the signature of the vampire in Jake's closet, and she also found these bloody stain with mud towels in the closet. Jake seem to be having a little secret he doesn't want her to know. Can she trust him or anyone?

I love her work. richie is my favorite author of all time. This is the first book from her I read. I still have the book and always read it when I get bored. Carolyn Baxter and her mother moved to an island to get an inherited Glanton House that left from a distant greataunt whom they haven't talk for years. Mrs. Baxter wanted to transform the house into a houseguests for tourists. Carolyn thought it was a bad idea, since the house was near a cliff, and the ocean that seem to go on and on forever; then there was fog all the time, making it harder to see. Nora, the creepy housekeeper left from Hazel, gave Carolyn all these horrible folklore that scare the hell out of her. Then a drifter came. His name is Joss Whitcomb, who needed a place to stay in exchange of doing handywork for them. Carolyn was half attracted to him with his dark, compelling look and half terrify of him for knowing too much of the tale of the house. the legend of the sea captain was scaring her cuz the captain's wife have the same name as Carolyn. The legend say that the captain have to go and the captain built a widow's walk for her to wait him there to return. But the wait seem to be forever so the Carolyn Glanton fall in love with another man. He was a drifter that she took care of; a cruel he was;very jealos and spiteful. Soon, Carolyn was depress. One stormy night, the ship of Captain Glanton came back but all people died except the captain. He was barely alive. The drifter killed the captain and killed the wife also and left. No one know where he go. With the legend like that, how could Carolyn trust the devastating drifter when she was feared of him?

I love this book so much! It is the story of seventeen-year-old Darcy, who is dumped by her mother at her handsome Uncle Jake's house, who is just 6 years older than her. There, she becomes friends with Brandon, the dark-haired, hot, guy who is already taken, but likes Darcy; Liz, the spoiled girlfriend of Brandon who is used to getting what she wants and does not have any real friends; Kyle, the sweet brother of Liz; and Elliott, the weird young man who never takes off his sunglasses and seems to follow Darcy around. Meanwhile, girls are being murdered in the town and left with slits in their throats and marks that look like a vampire's. Strange things start happening to Darcy, and at first everyone thinks she is overreacting. When Darcy finds a note saying "You are my chosen one," she must hurry to find who is doing the killing before she is next. This book has romance and suspense, and it keeps you guessing until the end. I think this book is somewhat hard to find, but I ordered it off amazon.com and am thankful I did.

Darcy is dumped by her mom, and left at her Uncle Jake's house. His home is inside a horror museum -- The Dungeon of Horrors, which he owns. As soon as she arrives, strange things start to occur. Girls start turning up in dark alleys with their throat slashed, and two lipstick marks on their necks -- implying a vampire bite. Darcy's thrown into the midst of the terror when she believes that she's being stalked and receives a threatening note under her pillow. To add to the situation, she starts suspecting that someone she knows is the killer! Will she survive long enough to find out?.....

"Vampire" was a very good book, and up to par with a great author -- Richie Tankersley Cusick. This was my second book by her, and it was great! Keeping that in mind, it did have a few flaws. It was a bit hard to get into, and didn't get straight to the point. Aside from that, it wasn't too fast-paced. The ending (being the most important part of a book -- especially in mysteries) was satisfying, but not completely shocking -- like most other books. Still, it was unique how the author made you change your mind three times about who the killer was before they were revealed.

When I saw this book and seen the reviews, I figured that it was just going to be "cool". Then when I finally got this in the mail I was completely overwhelmed by the imaginative visions that Barlowe puts into each of the paintings. Each picture is filled with detail and rich color. The captions get really in depth with what the picture stands for and which Demon is shown and when you think about it, it can be fairly creepy if this is what Hell was really like. Barlowe talks about making his way into the lowest reaches of Hell and bringing back the images to share with the world. The artwork in this book will completely blow you away.

Wayne Barlowe has long been one of my favorite artists, up there with Bekinski and Giger. He has a real talent for pulling the viewer into his world, so that we can almost smell the sulfur. This and its companion piece Brushfire are my (current) favorite art volumes, as I seem to be in a very hellish phase right now. But even when I'm not feeling hellish, I'm in awe of Mr. Barlowe's talent. I love the texture of the worlds and characters, the deep, roaring, ash-filled atmosphere of the environs of hell he portrays. I am always inspired by his work.

Normally I am reserved in my reviews but this one stands out as an entity that deserves high praise. I had been researching visions of Hell for some years when this book came out. It was an exquisite find as the author's vision was finely detailed and provided a wealth of information. His Hell is different yet similar to Dore's vision which appealed to me. It is as if he took Dore's vision and placed his own ideas and concepts on top of Gustave's.

This is highly recommended. The pictures are stunning and the text adds some nice thought as well. One reviewer wrote that he thought the souls looked to much like statuary and while I do agree with that criticism it is a minor quibble and is not always the case.

The book was not as good as I thought it was going to be. When I read certain passages of it at the bookstore I thought it was going to be a fictional narrative of a doomed person's experience in Hell. Instead it was more of an artists explanation about his paintings. The book still drew me in and made me think and feel about what Hell might be like. For this reason, the books ability to make me seriously think about Hell in a literal sense, I will give it four stars.

This collection is basically Barlowe's visual interpretation of Dante's Inferno from The Divine Comedy. Each painting has a page of description pointing out the purpose and reason for every detail in the image. From a tortorous picture of Lillith, to the haunting painting of a minor demon riding on the backs of several tortoured souls held together with muck, they are each fascinating to examine. Like Dali and other fantastical artists, one can look at these paintings and see something new every time. The color work is fantastic, and in some paintings actually appears to be digital photography until one looks closer. A ver well-thought-out project, it is pleasing to see another side of Barlowe's intelligent work.
