My skepticism quickly evaporated upon receiving this charming tome, however. The Wu-Tang Manual provides the reader with a wealth of quick and easy (and cheap!) dishes that will leave your mouth watering. Whether you're planning a quiet, intimate time for a couple to relax, or a lively group gathering for a shower, graduation, or holiday, there are recipes here for all occasions. You'll learn how to turn out perfect renditions of classics with a twist such as Brown Butter Pecan Muffins, Baked Banana French Toast, and Smoked Salmon Benedict on Potato Pancakes, as well as new dishes to add to your repertory such as Tea-Smoked Trout Salad, and Baked Eggs with Fresh Corn "Polenta" and Slow-Roasted Tomatoes.

Though only 26 pages from start to finish, The Wu-Tang Manual is a decadent feast of a read, with usually dry recipes spiced up with some personal cooking anecdotes from the RZA and friends from the Wu-Tang clan. One such tale about the RZA and Method Man's disastrous first attempt at a crab bisque literally had me laughing until I was in tearz.

With mouthwatering photos and sections on menus and sources, The Wu-Tang Manual is all you need to throw a stylish and sophisticated dinner that any chef would be proud of.

I loved this book, my brother loved this book and I thought the Rza did a great job.....its the Wu FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if you like the wu this is for you. if you like hiphop its a good read. so many little fill ins for missing wu knowledge. the best bits will depend on where you come at hiphop from, as an mc i liked the annotated lyrics section. it is fairly comprehensive overview of the wu and well worth the price. buy it or stay a sucker mc forever.

I bought this book because I have been an avid fan of the Wu since high school. I had a feeling it would be good but little did I know that it would be in the tops of the bests books I've ever read in my life. If you've ever listened to a Wu song and wondered what this line meant, or what this word means, look no further. Who knew that there was actual rhyme and reason to ever since word picked for their lyrics.

If this is truely only a volume 1 out of many, I can't wait for the others. No matter what level of Wu fan you are, this will double it at least. Get this book.

The Wu-Tang Clan has been of the primary influences in my life, starting my interest in Hip-Hop music and culture as a youth through adulthood. This book is amazing; however, a novice listener of the Wu will not truly understand this book. A bandwagon listener of the Wu will not truly understand this book. This book is for the true heads, the people that have been intrigued with the sound, slang, style and charisma of the Wu-Tang ever since they first dropped on the music scene. If you're one of these fans, buy this book; you won't be dissapointed. For all you corny,wannabe, Johnny-come-latelys that claim to be a Wu fan and only own The W and Iron Flag, do us all a favor and don't buy this book; it will be a piece of genius that will go to waste collecting dust.

Witty Unpredictable Talent And Natural Game!

Excellent advice on how to write, what to write, and where to send it once you've finished it. A realistic look at the romance industry.

I have pretty much every book on romance writing I can get my hand on, and while there's certainly a lot of overlap among them, this is definetly the best.

While all of the books have helpful information on the romance industry, this one really stands above the rest. It's wonderfuly organized - it's the one I turn to first when I need to find something quickly. It's also well written - the information doesn't differ a whole lot from the other books, but this is by far the most fun to read. I've also found that the suggestions are truly helpful. The hints/suggestions sound really basic, but have made the writing process MUCH easier (I'm a beginner).

Most of the books in this genre have something new to offer, but if you're only going to buy one, this is definetly your best option.

This was the first book that I had ever read by Julie Beard. After reading her thoughts and ideas, I'm sure that it won't be the last. The book was intresting and to the point. Her ideas were well organized and thought out. A two year old could understand and utilize the information. At points there was humor and it felt as though you were talking to an old friend. Julie Beard has a new fan in me. Even if I find that I'm not intrested in her romance novels, when I am asked who is my favorite author, my answer will undoubtably be Julie Beard. The help and confidence that she offered me in this book were well worth the price. I'm not sure that I'll ever be an author, but if I fail it won't be due to anything that was lacking in her book. If I were given the opportunity I would send her a personal thank you. My out look and my life were changed in a couple of hours.

Having read hundreds, maybe even thousands of historical romances over the last 20 years, I always dreamed of one day writing my own novel. This book is an extremely helpful tool for anyone that dreams of one day becoming a bestselling author. Julie Beard shares information about the industry and the various tricks to getting published. For those aspiring historical romance writers bogged down by the research process, Beard also gives insight to resources with which to build your historical framework.

This book is a great read. It's funny and inspiring. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to break into the romance industry.

If you are truly serious about becoming a successful romance writer then you MUST have this book. I've read TONS of books on writing, not only romance but fiction and non-fiction as well. None of them were as user friendly and focused on how-to info as this book. Most other books quickly brush over the how-to. This book actually shows you step by step what to do from choosing the type of romance to write, structuring your book, synopsizing each major part in 4 paragraphs to getting published!! This puts other writing books to shame and it makes me feel like I've wasted so many years with the others when I could have had this gem the entire time.

If you want to write romance and you want to get started on the right foot then you MUST HAVE THIS BOOK. No exceptions. And if you are trying to decide between this book and another (or several others), get this one! The others can't hold a match to this one. Not by a long shot.

I read a book by Gene Simmons called KISS AND TELL. I also read a book about KISS called BEHIND THE MASK. After reading KISS FOREVER I noticed something strange happening to my way of thinking in regards to KISS. Before reading these three books I used to think of KISS the way I always had. What songs I liked, which album covers were the best, which costumes were best, ect. After reading this book (and the other two) I know so much about the day to day lives of KISS during the 70s and 80s that now I feel more like I was a member of KISS remembering my days with the band than a fan. As I read this I found it easy to imagine what it would have been like to have been a member of KISS. The book states when someone was sick, when their pants split on stage, when they did store appearances, ect. If you're a KISS fan you should have this book. I was worried I was wasting my money on a book that I wouldn't find interesting but I was wrong. Its a great book.

this is a great read. i like to just pick it up and browse. Interesting to see the actual attendence figures because they prove how much money KISS LOST in order to put on a good show. There are many dates that werent even close to selling out (mostly in the 80s), but it also shows that even in their hey day they usually only sold out places with apprx. 8 - 10,000 seats. Being compared to todays standards, that is pretty weak considering the sizeable show they toured with.
The set lists are interesting as well. Though many are the same, now and then you see a song and wish you were there to hear them play it! This book also has a few interesting notes in between tours.
This is one of the best books out there for kiss fans. Gives you a new appreciation for the band as you see how they played to a lot of half empty halls but still stuck with it. the book is also honest in its figures, no sugar coating. a really cool read that must have taken months, if not years, of research. Essential for any Kiss fan as well as rock n roll fans in general.

Kiss Alive Forever is a must read for any KISS fan. The book is filled with details from all their tours including dates, set lists, and many, many details from each show.

I've had this book for a couple years now and I can't put it down. I read it over and over and find interesting new facts every time. A day to day history of all their tours from day 1.

I Love This Book!!

This book has all the facts and figures about Kiss concerts that I've never read anywhere else.

It tells you the dates of each show, how much capacity the arena holds, what the attendance figures were, what songs were sung at most shows, in the order in which they were performed. It also has interviews with some touring personnel and their memories of the tour and/or show.

I really appreciated the end of the book that has all the songs Kiss has ever performed, the first and last time they performed the song (Hard Luck Woman was ever only performed during an 11 day period in 1976 and NOT during the three Forum shows that were recorded for Alive II. Some songs were only ever performed once, others only in other countries).

It breaks each tour down by album, tells you the biggest shows by attendance, all of their opening acts, who Kiss opened up for. It is packed with tons of information you never hear Gene and Paul talk about.

A must for any Kiss fan or anyone who enjoys the behind the scenes happenings of a major rock act.

THIS IS A GREAT DESK REFERENCE GUIDE FOR TERMS REGARDING SPIRITUAL WORK. IT ALSO IS A QUICK REFERENCE FOR FAMOUS SPIRITUALISTS NAMES, PLACES, AND SUCH.

If you're curious as to the purpose of our very existence as human beings, I highly recommend you read this book. It is a question and answer format that makes sense of the human experience.

This is the one of the most comforting book I've ever read in my life. I found out more about Spiritual life and God's promises through Jesus. It's a real step ahead of our time, and very clarifying book for the ones who are really serious about spiritual evolution. You will not be able to stop reading this book!

This book makes sense of many experiences and knowledge gained from
"somewhere". It is a book for the serious seeker of spiritism.

Amazon, are you listening? I originally read this book in French and really loved it. It is a wonderful book for those searching for the meaning of life, spiritual truth etc...and is a very serious, credible work by someone whose main line of work was scientific study and medicine, Allan Kardec.

I was so thrilled that I ordered copies in English for friends and was disappointed to find out that this copy is the original English translation dating from the late 1800s!! The book is still worth a read, but why suffer needlessly? The language is difficult, and the typeset is even worse. Great news: a new, modern American English version does exist, and frankly, it is a huge mystery to me as to why it is not being sold here. FYI: I bought my modern copies fon the Allan Kardec Education Society's website...

If you know my reviews, you know that I'm one of the world's biggest Genesis fans. They're my favorite group, and always have been. So it was a total no-brainer for me to pick up the latest book about the band, "Genesis: Chapter & Verse," which is basically written by the band members (both past & present) themselves, as they tell the story of the group in their own words. This is an excellent Genesis book, and the most up-to-date so far (going straight up to the band's reunion tour from 2007). It's filled with lots of insights into the group & their music, how they grew up, how they got together, how they work together, how they come up with all of their incredible music, and how they live their lives. Besides the insightful comments from all of the band members themselves, there are equally-insightful passages written by many people close to the band, such as touring sidemen, managers, producers, roadies, and record company executives. And there's *lots* of great photographs too---in fact, the photographs take up about half of the book!---and many of them come from the band's own personal archives. One of my favorite photos is on page 187, of a Genesis roadie in 1977 lying down on the street in San Francisco, taking a break. Above him is the marquee for Winterland, where Genesis were playing. It reads "Mar. 25 & 26, Genesis." And just below that: "Apr. 7, P. Gabriel." Ain't that somethin'? Peter Gabriel played a gig at Winterland just two weeks after his old band did! Man, that must've been an awesome doubleheader of shows for Northern California Genesis fans. Wow! Wish I could've been there.... However, I must be honest when I tell you that, while "Genesis: Chapter & Verse" is a great book, it does fall short of being a perfect, "definitive" book about the band. I somehow get the sense that this Genesis book, even at a generous 359 pages, was still heavily edited. The book basically skims over the making of the individual albums, only devoting about three or four pages each to the making of such classics as "Foxtrot," "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway," and later classics like "Duke" and "Invisible Touch." That tells me that the Genesis men surely had a lot more to say about what went into creating these albums, but a lot of material was left out of the book. Also, there are *quite a few* typos in "Chapter & Verse," especially towards the end. Examples: "The Turn It Up Again Tour" (wrong!), "Follow Me Follow You" (wrong!), touring drummer Chester Thompson being born in 1968 (wrong!), and several more. These typos don't ruin the book, but they do tarnish it somewhat, and I sincerely hope that these will be corrected in future editions of the book.I currently have seven different books about Genesis on my bookshelf (with "Chapter & Verse" being the seventh), and I think there are two books about the band that are a little bit better than "Chapter & Verse": Hugh Fielder's "The Book Of Genesis" (published in 1984), and "Genesis: A Biography" by Dave Bowler & Bryan Dray (from 1993). Both books are out-of-print, but you can still buy them used, and I think they are put together a little bit better, are a little bit more insightful, and they go into deeper detail about the band, it's music and history, even though they are no longer up-to-date. Do seek them out if you can. Nevertheless, I greatly appreciate the wealth of material that is found here in "Chapter & Verse," and there's certainly a lot of it to enjoy. I highly recommend "Genesis: Chapter & Verse" to all my fellow diehard Genesis fans out there. Despite it's flaws, it's still a great book about this great band, and I know you'll enjoy it.

There are some great photos of the band in this well put together book. You get a look into all the major players that were in the band or an important part of the bands success. The book is told in a series of interviews which lends itself to the breezy nature of the writing. If I have one complaint it's that the period that the band had the most success,1983-1992,not much is written about the actual making of the music for which they became famous. This is a book for the fans of Genesis,not a serious critique of their work and if you are a fan this is a must buy.

This is a "must have" book for the true Genesis fan or hardcore Progressive Rock affectionato. It starts at the very beginning of the band's history and includes all members past and present. The writing style of this book is unique in that it is really just the captured words of the band members, organized around one topic or period at a time. It makes for a very easy read and also a very interesting point of view since it's in "their own words". An interesting and well done book - if you enjoy Genesis the band, you will certainly enjoy this book.

Great book! Got a great feel of how the band came together in the early years. Alot of detail in the interveiws with all the members of the band and from people behind the scenes. As a big fan of the Peter Gabreil era I got alot of information about how the band worked and lived and also what caused the breakup. A must read for any Genesis fan.

As a lifelong Genesis fan, this book is an entertaining read on many levels. The extensive recollections of all the members in chronological order covers their fascinating career. They were blessed with management who cared and an obvious lack of drug culture, two elements that are rare indeed in the rock world. I discovered some amazing insights, namely that Tony Banks is a bit of a princess; argues a lot and was initially Gabriel's best friend.. I've always considered Tony and Phil to be the most charismatic musicians whose playing bubbles to the surface of their recordings. It also appears Gabriel's solo work departed from the Prog sound due to Tony's ubiquitous influence in Genesis. He seems to have run screaming from Prog rock. Another jaw-dropper was that Gabriel made a subtle dig about Anthony Phillips being the biggest talent in Genesis, which shocked me. It simply is untrue, Tony has the biggest musical footprint. If you don't agree, just try to imagine the Genesis with a different keyboardist! It is sad indeed that Tony has missed the boat as a solo artist, except for the record "Still". Chapter and Verse is a fun, detailed read about the truly inspired supergroup who had the kahunas to do it their own way. It's well worth 20 bucks.

Moses Miller's debut effort "Nan: The Trifling Times of Nathan Jones" puts everyone talking bad about the street lit genre in check mate. This book is nothing short of remarkable. "The Trifling Times of..." provokes emotions of anxiety, sympathy and curiosity from the first word and keeps you hooked to the very last period. Set in Brooklyn, NY, during the Operation Falcon era of drug enforcement in the mid to late eighties, "The Trifling Times of.." gives the reader a behind the scene look underbelly of American Justice.

Nathan Jones is a complex man with a simple plan - survival. Little by little, everybody that Nathan loves is stripped from him. His parent's were killed as a result of a high-speed chase. A PCP junkie plowed over them with reckless rage after robbing and killing a liquor store owner and his wife. Nathan's mother pushed him to safety and his father came to her rescue just as the car crushed them.

Officer Mark Carson, the cop pursuing the murderous criminal, witnessed the vehicular homicide and takes Nathan under his wing. At the orphanage, Carson joins Nathan with Joseph Hayes - the son of the couple slain in the liquor store robbery that preceded the demise of Nathan's parents. A bond between blood brothers is forged, but their lives become anything but easy.

Carson introduces the boys to Master Thaddeus after they have problems with a teenage gang of 5 Percenters lead by Shaborn. Master Thadeus is a master in the art of war and teaches Nathan and Joe how to defend and attack with precision. A couple of months later, Shaborn makes the mistake of stealing Joe's hat. Nathan demolishes Shaborn and gains the respect of all the boys in the orphanage.

Nathan becomes infatuated with Latoya, a girl at his high school. Latoya gives him the nickname "Nan", and it stays permanently with Nathan like a tattoo. Infatuation turns into love and the loss of their innocence. Then without a trace his first love and lover moves away without a trace after being raped by her step-father. Already bitter from the loss of his parents, Nan sinks deeper into mental darkness.

Carson gets into bad debt with a powerful loan shark named Sonny and finds himself on the losing end of one-hundred fifty thousand dollars and days to make good on his outstanding tab. The once flashy and proud Carson now crumbles under pressure, stealing money and drugs during routine police raids in an attempt to avoid paying his monetary obligation with his life.

Nan and Joe are even pawns in Carson's plan to stay alive. Given a duffle bag full of cocaine, the boys are instructed to drop it off with Sonny. Being told they are carrying paintings, curiosity leads to the chilling discovery. No sooner than they realize what they are really delivering, they are cornered by cops and forced to run. Nan risks his safety to allow Joe to escape.

Nan is caught, beaten and tortured. He is then forced to steal drugs from various drug dealers to keep Carson and Joe out of harm's way. Since they are his only link to humanity, Nan uses his training in martial arts to comply. The crooked cops resale the drugs and leaves Carson and Joe alone. Carson is nowhere to be found and Joe graduates high school and enters college for his new found skill - creative writing.

Once the drug laundering operation is in contention of being exposed, the group of crooked cops scramble to bring everything to a halt by killing all of hood figures directly involved in their illegal enterprise. All but one... Nan dodges the manhunt leaving behind a bloody trail. The crooked cops kills everyone who could be a possible witness to their attempt to erase Nan. From the new love of his life and mother of his unborn child to old ladies to even Joe, everyone is brutally slain by crooked cops and their deaths are attributed to Nan.

Little by little, Nan gets more information about who is really running this rogue operation and why. With his life on the line, he struggles to extinguish those who are dead set on extinguishing him. And from there the reader can fall in line with Nan...and expect the unexpected.

"The Trifling Times of..." reads more like a movie than a novel. The setting and time changes are cinematic. This can be attributed to Moses Miller's background in journalism. Flipping back and forth, the book seamlessly pieces together Nan's past and present preparing the reader for an intense climax. The reader gets to see Nan experience, directly and indirectly, the effects of how partial information can engender inaccurate perceptions. His life also provokes mixed emotions. Nan is an antihero of sorts that murders and steals so that the ones he loves can go unscathed by those who are truly crooked.

Moses Miller's tale of lost love and lurid leeway with the law may be considered a classic decades from now. It's books like this that should be brought to the table when people want to discuss the quality, or the lack thereof, of books published for readers of street lit. This is literature by its very definition: writings in prose or verse, especially writings having excellence of form or expression and expressing ideas of permanent or universal interest.

"What did you like best about this book?"

This book portrays the other side of the murderous streets than the one that the media gives us on a daily basis. The realism of the events that surround Nan's past and present sheds light on the corruption that can go unseen by those who are either out of the loop or want to turn a blind eye to the situation. Cops are supposed to be the good guys, and the people they go after are supposed to be the criminal element. "The Trifling Times of..." shows how the opposite can be closer to reality.
This book goes hand in hand when police officers are killed off-duty and the details are sketchy or when some young black person is shot and killed in broad daylight with no witnesses except for the police officers who do the killing.

"The Trifling Times of..." makes some of the other street lit books look like studio gangsters in comparison. Moses Miller writes with relentless attention to details. This book has the same feel that Illmatic has.
I like the fact that this book is equal parts fast-paced thriller and retrospective pseudo-biography without losing its power. Moses Miller has a way of keeping the reader stuck to the pages whether Nan is running from the cops or from his turbulent past.

I can't really pick out anything that I dislike about this enchanting novel. I actually enjoyed this book through and through. I have no qualms.

"How can the author improve this book?"

Moses Miller can only improve this book by writing another book that picks up the story of Nan where "The Trifling Times of..." left off.

Moses Miller is a superb storyteller with a great literary voice and even greater imagination. The Trifling Times Of Nathan Jones is superbly crafted, and filled with such indelible characters that you find yourself going back and reading full passages over and over again just for the sheer enjoyment of it. Alternating between expository flashbacks and real-time action, Miller's narrative impresses most with its effortless ability to hold the reader completely rapt at attention, silently begging to see what happens next. All this, of course, leading to an ending that gives new meaning to the concept of a true cliffhanger...

The Trifling Times Of Nathan Jones is a highly recommended read from a true literary master. Be on the lookout for more instant classics from this gifted scribe.

The Trifling Times of Nathan Jones is the story of two young men Nan and Joe coming together at a young age to share their lives as brothers and best friends. The boys are brought together by Carson after the tragic death of both boys' parents, caused by the same crazed man. Carson becomes a father figure, mentor to the boys, while Nan and Joe's relationship grows strong during the years at St Mary's (an orphanage), taking them into their young adulthood.

Faced with the challenges of being orphaned, at a young age, not understanding totally why their parents had to die and leave them alone. Nan and Joe feel their way through life, while knowing that December 24, 1985 will never be forgotten. Both boys find their own ways to cope. Nan focuses on his martial arts training while Joe strength is in his writing talents, opening the doors to further his education past high school. Unfortunately, the demons come out to attack the young boys and Nan is faced with being the one to ward them off...coming to realize that they have been betrayed by one they trusted and loved.

The Trifling Times of Nathan Jones is a page turning thriller that flowed nicely, exciting me to continue my reading, not wanting to put it down. I love how this author left the ending open, knowing that there will be a sequel to this book. I know there is so much more to the life of Nan-Nathan Jones that I want to read about in the near future. What a great read!

This book was so good! Has you at the edge of your seat --asking yourself questions trying to figure out what the hell is going or why this is happening and then when the answers are revealed you are dumbfounded. I am patiently waiting for the sequel of this book. This man knows how to tell a story--KEEP EM' COMIN MOSES! I loved it!

Being a huge Cartel Publications fan, this book did not let me done at all. Jason Poole did his thing with this book. Victoria's Secret(s) were truly shown in this book. I was on the edge of my sit waiting for more. CARTEL PUBLICATIONS IS WHATS IT!!!!

In this fast paced tale you are introdued to Victoria -aka- Vic, who proves to be a princess from the start. Conflict in the home between her hard working father and her alcoholic mother soon finds Victoria in foster care where she meets Penny and Liddy, her sisters for life. It's not until she is "rescued" from foster care and put into an even deeper compromisng position that she meets her savior, Babyface, that she shows what she's capable of.
Victoria and babyface learn the ropes of how the pimp/ho game works as they jump over hurtles always having each others back. Amongst them are other colorful characters that will have you on the edge of your seat dying to know what happens next.
Jason took me back and had me ready to pull out my old Donald Goines and Iceberg Slim novels. As with these late greats, he created a tale of how gritty the underworld of pimping is, and what it truly meant to be a bottom b*#ch.

Good job, Jason! I'll be looking for your next novel.

WOW!!!! This book was off the chain. I loved it. If you want a page turner...this is the book to read. I would recommend this book to anyone who reads urban fiction. Great job Jason Poole!!! Looking forward to your next book.

Jason Poole has a hit in the urban fiction arena with his novel, Victoria's Secret. Within its pages, readers journey into the tumultuous lives of Babyface James and Victoria Grey. Babyface and Victoria bore scars from tragic childhoods, but that was not what made them a force to be reckoned with. This dynamic duo put Bonnie and Clyde to shame as they explored different area codes with one plan; to pimp harder. Fresh faces meant new booty and new booty meant more cash in this underworld Babyface and Victoria took by storm. From possibly being crowned `Pimp of the Year' at the legendary Playa's Ball to learning the pimp definition of southern hospitality, Babyface stacked cash and stashed bodies in his tracks with the essential ride-or-die chick. On the flip side, Victoria's secrets could dismantle their stable and disable their pimp, but how could she help when she was barely alive?

Poole's potentially classic tale is a glimpse into Pimpdom; a world most find irrational and comical simultaneously. From gaudy-garmented pimps and their dialect, to hosistahs and their intricate relationships, no detail was spared unless you count the grammatical burps. Also, under the circumstances of which Victoria's secrets were uncovered, I expected more consistency in the story being told from her point of view. With its solid plot and good use of supporting characters, Victoria's Secret is undeniably an entertaining read. It is guaranteed to grace literary charts, but why settle for fifth place when it could be number one? Regardless, it is a must read for urban fiction enthusiasts.

Blue Monday is an interesting but not a compelling read. We never get inside Fat's head to understand the man, so we get an expanded discography. The dates, times and places seem to be well researched which begins to wear after a while. The matter of fact style just does not bring Fat's personal life into focus, although there are many descriptions of incedents about him. He remains a mystery in reference to his personal motivation, dual life style, and reclusive habits.

I guess if Antoine "Fats" Domino could keep the President and First Lady waiting, then he could keep us waiting for his first biography - this is a Natural Born book about a musical genius, intriquing personality, and unassuming cultural revolutionary.
The author tells his story and includes many entertaining anecdotes about life at home and on the road with several sets of support players - the greatest names of course being Dave Bartholomew, Herb Hardesty, and Lee Allen. We get a strong picture of the smiling, "safe" rock and roller, as the often defiant man's-man. And a complex artist/showman: he could sing The Rooster Song while flashing rings to make Freddie Blassie envious.
A great bunch of previously unpublished black and white photographs from Look magazine, among other handsome prints of lesser known shots really bolster the text.
A serious ommission for the audiophiles: not even a selected discography and no sessionography. [Though there are "Notes" in the back of the book on the mysterious Broadmoor recordings, including personnale and dates!]. Of course the '50s period sessions can be found as a booklet in the Bear Family 8-CD set, and in a European book, "Jazz Records"; also in a fairly recent issue of Goldmine magazine. But Fats Domino ABC-Paramount, Mercury, Broadmoor and Reprise FD session data has never, to my knowledge, appeared in print, and what a fabulous component that would have made.
Speaking of the ABC-Paramount tracks, the author did not mention in the text a very important 4-CD set, "The Paramount Years", which included the *incredibly* rare fourth l.p. for that label, plus the 1980 "If I Get Rich" from another record company!
The idea that "The Fat Man" is the first R & R record also doesn't agree with me. Yes, the elements are there, the upbeat shuffle and bright lead vocal, but that powerful sound (and many others by Fats in that '49 to '54 period) were not *primarily* for the youth. The first discs to be produced for teenage tastes came much later. I wouldn't even include "Tutti Frutti" in that category, as it too, lyrically and instrumentally echoed an earlier, "swingin'" sound. [It was "Ready Teddy" folks which screamed out...Rock and Roll!!!].
Still, this book should be "required reading" for those dedicated followers of those Rock and Roll Hall of Famers.

Rick Coleman's new book "Blue Monday" is the first full biography of Fats Domino. Many interesting things are therein.
- Fats was the first black rock & roll star. His records made the pop charts before r&r's dawn in 1955.
- Kids did not buy albums in the 50s, but Fats' albums sold, meaning he had an adult following like Louis Armstrong's.
- Fats concerts were often scenes of teenage riots. He may be known for `Blueberry Hill,' but his fierce rolling piano ignited his audience.
- "Blueberry Hill" was the product of a botched session. Engineer Bunny Robyn edited together the best parts of several incomplete takes and simply repeated the chorus.
- The string-laden "Walkin' To New Orleans" was a big breakthrough which traditionalists lamented. But it hit R&B (#2) even higher than pop (#6).
- Roy Brown once ditched a plan to have Fats open for him on tour. Fats never forgot it, and refused to have Brown open shows for him when the tables were turned.

Of the Big Five (EP, FD, CB, JLL, LR), Fats is the least lionized because he was not a "rebel." Historians normally embrace only people with bold lifestyles.

Boy ol Boy, Rick Coleman has written a great book on the TRUE story of Rock & Roll! I know as I was there and if you want to know what it was really like to be on the scene when true rock & roll was called race music on a juke box, Boogie Woogie and the down home blues was taking over the country then get this book and turn others on to it also. No one person was more responsible for the birth of R&R and R&B than the Fat Man! This was long before Elvis, Haley and the hand full of others came on the bandwagon. [...]

This is an excellent book. The quality of the pop up pictures are wonderful. It is a real collector piece. Definitely worth buying if you are anyway interested in Elvis

My friend and I purchased this for our "Elvis fan" for Christmas. This book is is so much fun. It has great pop up pages that are interactive, such as a little photo album with pictures, or the kitchen page you can open the kitchen and cabinet doors. It was much more than just a regular pop up book. Our friend loved it! I recommend buying it for those true fans.

I'm not a big Elvis fan at all, but my MIL is, so I bought it for her. As soon as it was opened, I sat and read it cover to cover! I loved the details and the stories that went with each page and feel like I don't need to go and take the tour, now! (I once drove by Graceland, but didn't take the tour.) Fantastic, interesting, well-made book. I agree with another reviewer that some pages have to be turned carefully to prevent pop-up parts from bending, but that was a rare thing and only applied to the smaller pieces, like a corner of a table and a candlestick in the livingroom.

Cool book! Worth every cent...

GRACELAND: AN INTERACTIVE POP-UP TOUR is a must-have for any Elvis fan. I bought one for a friend, and it was such a hit that several of her friends have purchased them also. The pop-ups are well done, and the book gives a lot of information about Elvis and Graceland. It makes a great birthday present and will be the hit of the party.

I bought this for my mother, a huge Elvis fan, and she loves it. The pop-ups are very well done - lots of detail, and lots of little extra flaps and such to open. Each page features a different room - kitchen, jungle room, etc., and the book discusses the significance of each room in Elvis' life. In a slightly morbid twist, the last page is the grave of Elvis and his parents. Also included are a cardboard pair of Elvis' famous gold sunglasses that you can wear! This book far surpassed my expectations.

This is a beautiful and lovingly produced book of George Harrison's life in pictures with comprehensive articles and tributes written about George and heaps of great photographs and more. George's wife, Olivia Harrison wrote a moving personal Foreword that brings tears to the eye and touches chords in hearts. No George Harrison fans should miss this much sought-after item. However, whether or not you are a George Harrison or Beatles fan, this is a great book to read and a wonderful gift to give.

Geroge is consider one of the quiet one in the band "i think" but not on the music, his talent surpass any
other musician and is really sad not to have him anymore . In this book you'll find a great deal of pics since
the Beginning and from his solo career , a must have book to put in your collection

I must challege Candace Scott's remark in her review :

"But it's a stretch, to put it mildly, to place Harrison in the same league as Lennon & McCartney as a songwriter. Ouch! I love George as much as anyone, but still expect truthful history to be written"

I agree, George should not be placed in the same league as Lennon & McCartney because he was totally in his own league ! What is Candace making the comparison to here ? It was George, partially inspred by Pattie, his first wife, who led the other Beatles into the rich Vedic culture of spiritual India that inspired so many of their finest musical and lyrical masterpieces.

So in that context, the "truthful history to be written", is that George was even partially responsible for some of the finest compopsitions of Lennon and McCartney.George gave great emphasis to the chanting of the Holy Names of the Lord, as in the chanting of the Hare Krishna maha-mantra, as found in "My Sweet Lord", and "It Is He ( Sri Krishna )", which is the ultimate function of music, according to the ancient wise sages, gurus and spiritual masters . This Krishna mantra has helped millions of people to give up harmful drugs, animal killing, etc...How many song-writers are doing that with their music today ? George was the innovator, to turn scripture into pop songs. He was divinely empowered and had the integrity to do this, not caring if he was "fab" to the eyes of the masses, unlike anyone before him.

To minimize George's ability as a song writer in anyway only helps to disclose one's own superficiality, and lack of spiritual consciousness.

George's songs overflow with essential messages of the futility and temporality of things material, such as "All Things Must Pass", the dangers of becoming too materially attached "Beware of Darkness" , the concern for living in harmony with this planet "Save The World", etc...

In "Isn't It A Pity", George gives the essence of spirituality, by prompting us to develop equal vision and gratitude toward all beings, including animals :

"Some things take so long

But how do I explain

When not too many people

Can see we're all the same

And because of all their tears

Their eyes can't hope to see

The beauty that surrounds them

Isn't it a pity

I was very disappointed by Candace Scott's inabiity to see that "beauty that surrounds her" and lack of gratitude towards the very substantial and deep contribution George made through his music in transforming the lives of millions of people. I went on to become a Hare Krishna monk over thirty years ago because of his music, and devoted the best years of my life to feeding free vegetarian meals to tens of thousands of people, helping others off drugs, and so many other volunteer activities.

George Harrison is my first guru, and awareness of his contribution to the upliftment of the world will only increase as time goes by. Please read this book for it's deeper purpose.

For the recent Birthday of Georgie Boy, I can review this item as the best way of remembering one of the best humans that have ever walked this earth.

Having been a "LLOG" (Lifetime Lover of George)I have read plenty about him. In general, his music is the best way to get to know George: it is unique, multi-textured, honest, witty, loving and spiritual. However, for reasons I certainly can't fathom, generally his post-Beatles work (with about two exceptions) got no respect!
Of course I loved the photos, but in my opinion the written tributes from his wife, Olivia, and his friends/fellow musicians are what sets this book apart. Paul Simon's is particularly descriptive: I felt as though I was visiting Friar Park (the Harrison's home in England) right along with him; walking through George's beloved gardens, sitting in front of the fire, listening to an impromptu ukelele concert, receiving a thoughtful surprise upon returning home to the U.S. "He wasn't particularly quiet, he just didn't DEMAND to be heard." Beautifully put. (Note to Paul Simon: you just might have a second career there; I would buy your first novel!)
This is also a great book for aspiring guitarists, as it gives mini-descriptions of particularly noteworthy ("Essential") Harrison performances, illustrating the subtleties and unusual but brilliant choices George made (at times even innovative or ground breaking) musically. People who previously believed that Lennon and McCartney were the ONLY geniuses in the Beatles will re-think that belief after reading this section particularly: they might even listen for certain passages in certain songs and think, "YEAH, WOW! That IS amazing!" They might give George's solo work (besides "All Things Must Pass") a listen and be pleasantly surprised. But we "LLOGs" have heard and appreciated the subtle brilliance of George Harrison all along.
This book is a must-have for any George Harrison or Beatles fan, or any guitar or rock history aficionado.
