This book has a lot of great information about the band. If you ever wanted to know how they started out or just some tidbits about the guys just read this. I did notice that some of the pictures are backwards. Like the tatoo is on one arm in one picture and the other in a different picture.

I love the Broadway show and adore listening to the CD. But the music in this book is very difficult to play and enjoy. I'm an advanced intermediate who just plays the piano for fun, and so far, this hasn't been fun! I'll keep practicing - maybe it will become more enjoyable.

If you love the music from the musical, then you've found the right book. While some of the songs have teeny differences between the recording and what's written, it's not enough to make it awful. The range is simple weather you're a contralto or a first soprano. The accompnament is a bit of a challenge, but easy to overcome with practice.

I'm loving this book! The arrangements are a great difficulty level- challanging, but not impossible. No One Mourns the Wicked, Defying Gravity, Dancing Through Life, and What Is This Feeling are edited, but not that bad, and Thank Goodness is reduced to Glinda's solo, I Couldn't Be Happier.
There's really no substitute for this book. The arrangements and the chords themselves are too complicated to pick up by ear. I'd encourage anyone who loves this musical and knows piano to invest in this book. It's a real keeper.

Pieces seem to be very true to the original score. Four and Five sharps or flats is common. Multiple changes in time signature within the pieces. Great if you're comfortable playing difficult music.

Terrific Method, not for beginners

I have been very impressed with this book. I am a novice guitarist, but with 30 years experience as a pianist and a degree in music education, I am not your average beginner. So I can tell you this isn't a book for beginners, but you don't have to be very far along to benefit from it.
My teacher, a friend from music school, was teaching me to play blues guitar, and I bought this book just to check it out. He was thrilled to find a book that uses the same method he has been teaching the blues for 20 years, but with the added benefit of some good songs to play. We immediately incorporated it into my lessons.
The structure of the book includes short lessons including scales and chord progressions, followed by some nifty little blues numbers you can play to illustrate those concepts. The book takes you through each skill and concept step by step, and is really fun to play. If I had one suggestion to make, it would be to include backing tracks in addition to the demo tracks for all of the songs on the CD, so that you could play them by yourself instead of just with the recorded version. Otherwise, this is a terrific method and a lot of fun.
I will defintely buy more of the books in this series.

I originally skipped the lessons in this book, in favor of just playing all of the tabbed out studies. Big mistake! The lessons are very well graded, and move at a comfortable pace (the studies kind of throw you in to the thick of things, a bit overwhelming for a beginner). As a teacher, I have used this book to help students out with their technique, performance, and theory.
The actual blues that it does teach is very much on the cliche side of things, but the lessons will have a universal appeal towards other types of music, especially as far as the theory goes. Because of this I have to grade this book with 5 stars, because it is really one of the best in this regard, and with a good mix of learning and playing, it is a great choice for learning and understanding the guitar.

This book is recommended by teachers and advanced guitar players for learning blues although it also allows to improve general aspects not only related to the blues. It is a good way to understand the basics of blues and some of its styles. Some previous knowledge and experience are needed but the book can be followed by beginners.
Each chapter is divided into three parts. Part one is dedicated to scales. Minor and major pentatonic scales are described and studied. Part two shows how to play chords and progressions and to apply them to blues and other songs. Part three is a study or song in which the author introduces techniques as bending, sliding, and so on. The studies are given in musical notation and also tablature.
An advantage of this book is that the author, John Ganapes, answers some questions in his own web and also gives some tips on how to practice and how to play the studies. The learning can be continued with More Blues You Can Use or Jazzin' the Blues by the same author.

I have only been playing guitar for about a year so am still entry level. I knew the major chords and some others before picking up this great book. I would say it is NOT a raw beginner's book as others have said but it is an entry-level book for those who have at least tinkered with the guitar for a couple of months. The content is very easy to comprehend and simply takes some practice to master. It is laid out perfectly and the instructions couldn't be more straight forward...just do what Mr. Ganapes says and you'll be on your way! This is definitely a blues rock course though and not traditional acoustic blues. I play it on my acoustic (as well as the electric) and it sounds great, but not traditional. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in playing blues rock music on guitar!

This is a good workbook for an advanced beginning guitar student. It's not for the pure beginner. Anyone just starting should learn the basics first: open position chords, bar chords, scales, etc. before they crack open this book.
As you can imagine the book starts off pretty easy with some simple rhythms and chords. It introduces different scales along the way and said scales are then used in the sample tracks on the accompanying CD. Some of the exercises are very easy. Those towards the end of the book are much more difficult.
There is not much in this book about chords. Most teaches and provides exercises for picking. The student will learn various scales, alternate picking, string bending, slides, shifts among other fundamentals. After having worked through this book, the student will have developed the skills necessary to do some awesome blues soloing.

"Tejano and Regional Mexican Music" by Ramiro Burr represents progress toward filling an information gap in Tejano Music. The book measures up in terms of providing authoritative information about a subject that's near and dear to many Tejanos, but that has not been adequately documented. It's a fascinating look at Tejano Music by a contemporary writer who is connected to the musicians themselves, their handlers, promoters and to the members of the media who cover the subject on a daily basis. As a writer for the San Antonio Express News, Ramiro is uniquely placed to gather and then spread current information on the subject, and he did exactly that in his book. But he also provides a historical perspective. The book is a real source for today's generation and for those who follow. Thanks Ramiro.
It's great to see that "Tejano And Regional Mexican Music" is available on Amazon.com and that it can be easily accessed by the thousands of Tejanos all over the world who are hungry for this type of information.

Ramiro Burr's book on Tejano and reg Mex music is the most fascinating, most comprehensive and most illuminating work in the history of this industry. If you're a novice or beginner, this book will educate you fast, with fact-based bios, tons of info and ready made lists of what CDs to buy and listen to. Or, if you're a veteran you'll get much joy of reading interesting facts and juicy biographical info on your fave artists from trio and mariachii to Tejano and norteno legends. From Adalberto, Fama, Jay Perez to Los Lobos, it has it all. As Mr. Burr oftens says, the book is important because the history of a music, a culture or a country is incomplete unless everyone's contributions are documented. Finally Tex-Mex has its due recognition.JR

Understood Betsy" was one of my favorite books from childhood and I was happy to see that it was available from Amazon. Even though it was first published in 1917, it is very contemporary in it's message about the importance of gaining self-esteem through accomplishment. In this day and age when parents tend to hover and worry over every small concern, this book show how Betsy, when sent to a farm to live, became a very confident and happy child due to the adults in her life who let her stretch her wings. Many of the ways in which these adults gave her a new life are very subtle but moving. Highly recommended for mid-elementary girls.

I was introduced to this book by a friend while staying at their vacation home on Lake Champlain in Vermont. It had rained most of the stay and I had exhausted my own supply of books and was wandering through their dusty library shelves when the dame of the home entered and knowing that I am an avid reader, recommended this book. She is a woman in her 70's and said that to this day she reads the book about once a year. I was instantly smitten and spent the next day and a half reading constantly, much to the chagrine of my husband who could not believe that I took the book in the tub, on the boat, to bed, and to a hidden spot in the servant's quarters in the attic to finally finish the text.
The writing is easy and eloquent. The story is funny and simple. I love how Ms. Fisher gives us the ability to see what's going on in Betsy's mind and the haughty-taughty little gal is a hoot! I found myself wishing I was 12 and had just read the book. I know I would put on the character and emulate the old-fashioned principles idealized in this quaint story!

I'm one of those Bass Players who discovered James Jamerson late in my bass playing life. Any young (or old) aspiring bassist should have this book. The 2 cd's that come with it are worth the price alone. Some of the greatest bass players on earth (McCartney, Entwhistele, Pallidino,Bob Babbit,Chuck Rainey..) paying homage to Jamerson and playing some of his famous bass lines. The great thing about it is that when played through headphones you get the bass in one ear and the rest of the mix in the other. I have actually listened to just the bass mix multiple times and marvelled at the Bass Lines. A must for any young Bass Player.
The book has some great stories and pictures and compliments the CD greatly.

I've always been a fan of Motown but of the singers, now I'm starting to realize I shouldn't give the singers all the credit, it was the producers, songwriters, and musicians who made the artists become hits. If it wasn't for the unique, special Funk Brothers who knows if the Motown artists would have become as successful as they did. It doesn't matter how good of a singer a singer is, if the music ain't right, the singer ain't gonna sound good. Its that something special about the Motown Sound that sparks something in our minds, hearts, and souls, the music complimented the singers excellently. James Jamerson was just a handsome, wonderful, real, interesting, talented person. Its sad he had to get recognition after he passed on. It seems the only way to become a legend is to die first then people appreciate you more, well this book taught me to love and praise people while their alive that's what keeps them going. All James wanted in his last days was recognition and to know he did make a difference in the world of music. This book taught me to appreciate the musicians, songwriters, and producers, the people behind the scenes, who made it possible for the music to become timeless, sometimes we give the singers too much credit.
It was interesting for me to read most of the Funk Brothers didn't even like Rock N Roll or Soul music, they were really jazz fans and wanted to play jazz, so it shows how gifted they were to still play soul music effectively even though it wasn't their cup of tea. Another reason why Motown sound is so appealing and fresh is because the Funk Brothers laced different genres of music into the soul music and tried new things with the music creating the Motown Sound, a sound in its own class.

First off, this book does an excellent job describing his life and sounds, from "he began playing a double bass" to "he would have the bass all the way up, and the treble half way." This book knows you want to sound like Jamerson, and it tells you just how to do that. What makes the book invaluable are the transcriptions. 49 of Jamerson's songs transcribed for you to play, right there and be able to get the idea of what he was thinking and trying to give when he wrote the basslines.
A book for any bassist.

Thorough, well-researched biography of James Jamerson - the man who changed how musicians view the bass. What an amazing life and a tragic end for a musician of immense talent.
Warning - the section of tunes in the back of this book will make you want to burn your bass!! He was THAT good.
Can't really write more - gotta go practice.... That's how much this book will inspire you to go play. A MUST HAVE for your bass library.

Gorgeous pictures! Must have for true fanatic fans. A little pricey for the casual or average fan unless you have a crush on one of the band members. Anton's handwritten comments are a wonderful touch. They make you feel like you're part of the family. Definitely worth the money to me.

The iconic photos in this book are an essential addition to any U2 fans collection. It's great to see other shots taken in the same session as the well known images that have graced the magazines and album covers over the years. Best of all are the explanations behind the shots and the honesty that comes across from the photographer and the band.
A treasure for any U2 fan

No words can describe the beauty, quality and detailed work of this book; you can really tell the dedication Anton Corbijn put into it, as well as his loyalty to the band through all these years. It's not only a masterpiece describing through pictures and notes the history of the greatest rock band in the world, but also a must have for any major U2 fan. It's personalized album type format makes it a wonderful experience both to read and look, and the quality and art work of all the pictures is out of this world; it's almost like you grow closer to the band! I loved it and can't get enough of it!! It's worth every cent. Really!!

The Ramones' popularity keeps growing--it's a shame that Joey, Dee Dee and Johnny didn't live to enjoy it. As a result of their popularity, so many--TOO MANY--Ramones books have been written and it seems like a new one comes out every month. If you are a die-hard Ramones fan, this is the ONLY book you need. Monte was with them from the beginning to the end and was partly responsible for making them the best touring band ever. He tells it like it was, and it is a fascinating read. Buy the book!

This book is a GREAT read for any Ramones fan, but it was very heartbreaking in the end to see how "the remaining band members" treated Joey at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction. I only wish Joey's mom and brother would have stepped up on stage to accept that award for Joey. He indeed was the most kind hearted soul and he deserved more recognition then what he got that night. May he rest in peace.

The more I read and learn about Johnny, the more complicated and intriguing I find him. It could be easy to dismiss him as a jerk but then something like the "milk and cookies every night" story comes up and endears him to you.
Entertaining, sometimes hilarious, but not "user friendly"

The book is entertaining, and I am glad I bought it and read it. Many passages/statements in the book are hilarious (to me).
Think about these dynamics: Take the 4 (original) band members, who are the only ones that truly were The Ramones, in my opinion: 1 had an Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. 1 is Bi-Polar, which is usually called Manic-Depressive. 1 would often be so stressed out that he would simply leave the band. 1 was a taskmaster. (You can find out whom I am referring to if you read the book.) Oh, you need to add in a man who was with them the entire time that The Ramones were together. Add the other "distractions" that the Ramones and their entourage indulged in and remember that this band played over 2,000 concerts in 20+ years period, and you can just imagine the problems they faced, the interesting things they experienced, etc al.
My only criticism of the book is that it is not "user friendly." There is no index, glossary, etc. Had it been "user friendly," I would have given it 5 stars.

EVEN THOUGH THIS BOOK REFLECT SIMILARITIES TO THE PROPHET HOSEA, THE STORY CENTERS AROUND IMAGES. IN THE BIBLE STORY THE PROPHET IS TOLD TO TAKE A WIFE OF WHOREDOM, WHICH IS NOT THE CASE AND THE PROJECTION OF MARIN BUT CHOICES THAT ONE MAKE WHEN THERE ARE NO ANSWERS. HER CHARACTER IS ABOUT A WOMAN SEEKING TO SOLIDIFY HER AFFECTIONS BUT CAN NEVER FIND ANYONE TO BELIEVE IN HER UNTIL THE END. BOTH SHE AND HER HUSBAND REPRESENT FOR ME THE PROJECTION OF TWO IMAGES COMING TOGETHER SEEKING TO VALIDATE WHO THEY ARE IN A WORLD APART FROM EACH OTHER. CAN THEY FIND SOLACE IN EACH OTHER AS SHE REPRESENT ONE WHO SEEKS TO BE VALIDATED AND HE AS ONE IS STAUNCH IN FAITH AND THE CHRISTIAN IMAGE TO REPRESENT EVERYTHING SHE NEED IN HER LIFE? HE FINDS HER AND SHE GRAVITATE TO THAT WHICH HE HAS OFFER AS THE LOVE OF CHRIST IN AFFIRMING HER. BUT THE TENSION COMES WHEN HE DOES NOT SEE AND UNDERSTAND THE EMOTIONAL PINING OF HER SOUL AND THAT OF BEING INSECURE. BEING THRUST INTO A REALITY IN WHICH SHE IS NEVER COMFORTABLE WITH HER ROLE, SHE ENDURES AND OVERCOME SOME OF HER FRAILTIES BY CLINGING TO HIS REALITY WHICH EVENTUALLY SEND HER SPIRALING INTO HER OWN PERSONAL JOURNEY FILLED WITH THE TREACHERY OF A DECEITFUL WORLD. THE STORY IS MOVING AND SHE FINALLY IS ABLE TO OVERCOME THE DEMON OF HER SOUL THROUGH HER OWN PERSONAL JOURNEY OF SELF DISCOVERY, CHOICES AND THEN CONSEQUENCES. A WONDERFUL STORY THAT CAN BECOME A MOVIE.

The book was the bomb. I gave this book a 4, because it started off very blah. At first I was like man this book is boring, and there were some places that left you wondering. It kinda did some jumping in the beginning. I mean it was like they met and then they were married. I was like what happen; it was kinda like that the first couple of chapters. However, things turned around, about a 1/4 of the way in the book. Then I seen why the beginning was sooo subtle it was like WOW! DAG! OMG! I did like the way it ended thought I didn't see that coming. It is defiantly worth your time. It has defiantly moved up into one of my favorite books; I can't wait until it is presented to my book club.

This book is nothing more than the transcript of everything said by those people featured on the "ELVIS- THE DEFINITIVE COLLECTION - 25th Anniversary Box set" that came out in 2002. It was a series of 8 VHS tapes/ DVDS. For the Elvis fan who has not seen this collection, it's an interesting read- for those who have, save your money- the box set was better!

I enjoyed this book put together by Joe Esposito with direct quotes from Elvis' friends and family. Since they are direct quotes from these people, and all of their quotes together weave Elvis' story together, there's not a lot of room for "spin" or one person's interpretation of "the story." Joe was Elvis' best friend, and it shows in this book. I found it very informative and insightful.

This read offers stories from a large group of many different characters from Elvis' life, famous and not famous, that includes old girlfriends from whom you don't hear often. I appreciated that feature and did enjoy reading the book.
Joe appears to be the same and leaves you to wonder if he continues to exaggerate his relationship with Elvis. He sometimes leaves you thinking that he believes he was most important to Elvis after his mother.
I was disappointed in the narrative layout of the book and had I opportunity to browse through it prior to ordering, I would not have purchased it at the price offered. Wait for the paperback.

This book was refreshingly upbeat about Elvis and reminded one of his good qualities. And isn't that the way we should try to remember people? So much of what is out there in the written realm about Elvis is so sleazy -- and from people who considered themselves to be close to Elvis. Thank you, Joe, for reminding us that Elvis was such a talented and giving individual. Clearly, you were a friend.
