This catalogue documents 164 works on paper in the collection of The Detroit Institute of Arts ranging from the beginning of the sixteenth to the mid-twentieth century, by such masters as Albrecht Durer and Adan Elsheimer as well as an umparalleled selection of German Expressionist drawings and watercolors.

This book was also the first in a series of volumes which fully documented by providing thorough art historical research, of the Detroit Institute of Arts collection of European drawings. As I understand it, the book was published in association with Hudson Hills Press; 1987. A very large hardcover volume and printed on high-quality paper. Out of print now though.

"Good Evening", as Alfred Hitchcock always said. This book is one of the master of suspenses' greatest works. These eleven stories are the kind that will make it hard to put the book down, once you've picked it up, and are excitingly ghostly. The stories you are about to read in this book are just the thing to keep kids and adults alike, in suspense. The simple illustrations that go with the stories lead kids to use their imaginations - a rare thing nowadays. So, find a comfy chair, grab a cup of hot cocoa, and snuggle down to a hauntingly good time. Enjoy!!!

THE WILD AND EROTIC WEST!

The latest edition in SQP's Gallery Girls collections takes a trip to the old west with Giddy Up! Cowgirls Gone Loco! Cowgirls are new avenue for the Gallery Girls Collection but as usual, SQP has lined up the usual array incredibly talented pin-up artists to bring these stunning ladies to life. Good ol' fashion Americana at its finest! The roster for this edition includes Arantza, Joe Pekar, German Ponce, Pelaez, Ernesto Cumpian, Danilo Guida, Perla Perlucki, and Marcelo Sosa. Stefano Mazzotti provides the front cover while Danilo Guida handles the back cover, both in full-color.

In a way, it seems rather odd that these mostly Spanish and South American artists would be working a theme so inherently "American" as the wild west, but trust me, it all works out very well. In side is everything from sharp-shootin' gun-slingers, saloon girls, Indian maidens, and rodeo girls (usually using their ropes in erotic bondage illustrations).

Alejandro Ferrero gives us a sheriff and her deputy surrounded by horde of blood-thirsty Indians...we know she's the sheriff because she has her badge tattooed on her buttocks! Diego Florio's sexually enticing "Big Boobs Jane, Wooden Signs" has a rather amply blessed young lady who uses her assets to paint with in lieu of paintbrushes. Pelaez's soft, subtle lines and attention to detail is always a highlight of any Gallery Girls collection and this one is no exception. Palaez provides us a sexy topless cowgirl brandishing a flaming branding iron. Arantza's contributions are always highly anticipated as well. One of her pieces showing an Indian lass atop a rearing horse is certainly one of the book's best pieces.

Giddy Up is printed on high quality, glossy stock, with 64 pages of gorgeous women. The wild west has NEVER been this wild...or this hot!

Truly skilled and memorable poetry

Showcasing the undeniable literary and lyrical talents of Irish poet Eilean Ni Chuilleanain, The Girl Who Married The Reindeer will wonderfully introduce truly skilled and memorable poetry to an appreciative American readership. From An Apparition: Where did I see her, through/Which break in the cloud, the woman/In profile, a great eye like a scared horse?//Seated at a till, her right hand moving,/The fingers landing precisely as if/They stopped notes on a lute, it seemed//That her other hand protected something fragile./then she half sprang to her feet, a captive warding off,/And the long swathe of silk she wore began to shift//Flowing away like dye in water, but still she stood/Cramped, and the sliding web lapped against the window/So I knew I was looking at a window,//The silk text building against the glass/In flaps and folds of yellow and arctic blue,/And bottle-dark green until the pane darkened/And closed like a big fringed eyelid into sleep.

The paperback edition is unbelievably priced at less than $20 for 584 pages of high quality paper with every photo printed in full color. The editorial reviews says it all. But I just wanted to add that looking at the diversity of artifacts (many of which look surprisingly strange) in the early periods of China's history further I'm further convinced that the modern Han people came from the merging of many ancient cultures.

Ably edited and with informative commentary by Joan Aruz, Ann Farkas, Andrei Alekseev, and Elena Korolkova, The Golden Deer Of Eurasia: Scythian And Sarmatian Treasures From The Russian Steppes is a showcase volume of spectacular artifacts crated from about the fifth to the fourth century B.C.E. by the nomadic people who lived on the steeps of the southern Ural Mountain region and uncovered by recent archaeology expeditions in Filippovka, Russia. The objects include wooden, deer-like creatures overlaid with sheets of gold and silver, as well as gold attachments for wooden vessels, leather, and fabric. Very highly recommended for art history, anthropology, and archaeology reference collections, The Golden Deer Of Eurasia is the catalogue for an exhibition presented by The Metropolitan Museum of Art and is a 320-page compendium of 335 illustrations (280 in color) and seven maps.

This is a great book geared towards 9-12 year old children. The illustrations are exceptional; very detailed and colors are vibrant and captivating. My children love this book and because it's a board book; it's very durable for younger children as well.
