I loved this book. After taking some of Lindberg's tips, my motorhome went 7.2 mpg to 11.9 mpg. That doesn't sound like a lot, but it is saving me a ton of money this summer. Hope he writes another!

Being born in 1982, I wasn't around for this era of Grand Prix racing. Sure, I'd heard the stories about how dangerous a period it was and how drivers put it all on the line every time they got in a car. However, this book made it clear just how dangerous Grand Prix racing - and all motorsport for that matter, was. The driver biographies are certainly not full length, but they provide a snapshot of what was going through the driver's minds when they were racing. I enjoyed Phil Hill's comments, especially the statements talking about Enzo Ferrari.
Above all, this is a picture book. That is not a negative to the book though, it is the main feature. The photographs were all taken by the author through the course of his covering F1 during that era as a writer/photographer.

This is one of those books that I read cover to cover within hours of receiving it. It tells the amazing story of early Grand Prix racing. After reading it, it really had me wondering why anybody would have been a driver back then. Too many drivers died while racing, and this book has these stories in photographs. In the book, Daley's articles on Alfonso de Portago and Wolfgang von Trips are excellent.
I really enjoy this book and would recommend it to anybody who is a fan of the old Grand Prix era.

I picked up an original copy of Daley's book, The Cruel Sport, many years ago. The 1st edition was a milestone in motorsports writing, for it without reservation addressed racing's rather dirty little secret- drivers were needlessly dying at the wheel of fragile cars at incredibly unsafe tracks that in turn were run by owners / organizations that were too often criminally negligent when it came to basic safety precautions. Scores of drivers, both then and now in well-earned retirement (if lucky enough to have survived), talked about how dangerous the sport was, but there was no concensus among drivers as to how to proceed. Circuit owners more often than not did not want to discuss their role in improving track safety. Long after the printing of Daley's original book, drivers were still paying the ultimate price for someone else's shortsightedness- Jochen Rindt, Roger Williamson, Tom Pryce, Jim Clark, Bruce McLaren, etc. Those drivers that did champion for change (Stewart, Rindt, Bonnier, G. Hill, etc) were often ridiculed for their efforts. The current crop of safer drivers and fans (remember LeMans '55!!) have these pioneers, and Daley, as the author of The Cruel Sport, to thank for their willingness to expose what was going on. Far from a reprint, the new edition is sufficiently revamped and updated to make it an entirely new read. Daley's photos still hold up well against the best of the big-time professionals of his era. If you love F-1 from the 1960s, this is an essential book for your library; in no way will you be disappointed. As the author of many titles unrelated to motorsports, you'll also be impressed with Daley's enormous talent for painting a picture with words- if only more motorsports writers were half as talented. To think these 3 1/2 decades later, there is still no similar work in motorsports literature.

I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in this golden age of Formula One racing. It would also make an excellent gift for the F1 enthusiast. The photos are spectacular and Daley's writing is evocative; reading the book really brings you back to the late-50s/early-60s of Formula One. I wasn't even alive at the time, yet reading the book made me feel as if I was reliving these years.

I suggest to read this book together with "How to paint your car" also from Motorbooks, this one first because maybe you'd like to start with some nice graphics before putting yourself on a whole car painting job.

perhaps the last chapter should include a trailer shopping guide for the shear fact it would be sickening to restore a Z this much and then abuse it again by driving it. this book is worshiped more than likely by people who like trailer queens, and the author needs a hair cut.(buttttt) i did enjoy seeing someone else doing the work for once. and i would recommend the book to others for its various useful tips.

I saw this book long before I bought it, and after buying it, I was very sorry I took so long to get it! It covers most every aspect of the full restoration of this beloved car. From the frame-up or a little at a time. This book has the info you need, and more. The info inside can not be purchased, borrowed, or stolen for a better price! Alone, this book is not enough, but it's a great way to get the spark ignited. (No single book could possibly have everything, I know, I have bought almost all of 'em.)
A very useful book, but you can't use it by itself

This book is great, it takes you through almost all of the steps that you need to completely restore your car, but on a lot of things it merely mentions them and doesn't really tell you a lot about what your supposed to do. What I did was I bought this book and a haynes automotive repair manual(or Chilton's) and I used that for the more technical stuff. This book has 20-30 pages of exploded views of various areas on the cars and also has a list of retailers that sell parts and/or services for the z series. If your trying to restore your car get this book.

Great Book!
If you own one of these extraordinary cars this is your chance to enjoy the inside story of how a close knit team of gifted men and women brought a car back from the edge and then set a high water mark that will endure for years to come.

You get to see the birth of a modern day supercar from concept to delivery and meet the people and inparticular the one man who made it happen against all odds.

The Cobra is a very underappreciated car and this book brings it all to the surface. The 03-04 Cobras are a special breed and you can't fully understand just how special they are until you read this book. All the work and dedication that was poured into these cars is all revealed. This is the official baby book of the SVT Cobra giving every ounce of information you could ever want/need to know. If you don't gain a better understanding and appreciation for 03-04 Cobras after reading this book, you shouldn't be allowed to drive one!

I purchased this book prior to converting my 2002 MCS to a showroom stock car.
My first step was to remove the supercharger.
If you have worked on your MCS, you know that the supercharger appears to be the 1 part the rest of the car was built around.
The details in the manual are very clear, and the steps are logical and they even include short cuts.
You also get the part numbers, wiring diagrams, and everything you need to really know the car and fix it yourself.
This is NOT a chilton/hayes Manual.
IT HAS DETAIL!!!!
From brake jobs, to engine removal, to speaker installs, this is the single best "mod" you can buy for your MCS.

I just finished a ride of a little over 1000 miles from my home in NJ to and through WV and VA. I used this book to guide me on some really terrific roads and through some truly beautiful areas. This was the first long, extended ride I've ever taken and it was in large measure due to the "encouragement" expressed through this well written resource. If you're thinking of traveling through the Appalachians then I would recommend that you purchase and pour through this well written book before you go.
Invaluable!

I just got back from a near-1000 mile trip through the Appalachians. I used this book to guide me through some thoroughly fascinating and beautiful areas -- the author, Dale Coyner, has create a terrific resource! I am not exaggerating when I say that VA Route 39 has changed my view of the eastern United States (I lived in the West -- Alaska, Utah, and Arizona -- until 2000). I'm sure I won't be the first, but I've set a goal to do all 36 rides in the book.
I showed this to the clerk at the bookstore at the Peaks of Otter wayside on the Blue Ridge Parkway. She's a rider, so she took the name of the book down with considerable enthusiasm and pledged to talk to the manager about stocking the book in the store. It seems strange NOT to have your book on the shelves in such a rider's paradise!

great book detailing not just roads, but local custom and color for the mid-atlantic area from PA down to the Carolinas and eastern Tennessee.
numerouse routes from a central point in each region are detailed and the local dining, lodging, and other points of interest are detailed in an interesting style of writing.
useful for anyone who wants to tour the mid-atlantic region and take their time doing it...

I worked in the motorcycle industry for over 10 years as a service manager and still ride with all my old co-workers.
We thought we knew all the best roads in our neck of the woods but we were wrong.
We pick a route, get into the middle of nowhere and then get lost.
This book has filled in the blanks for us.
A must have if you're a real rider.

For me there are three parts to a good trip - the preparation, the adventure itself, and then the memories. This book has helped me a long way in achieving all these pleasure points. The maps and text are wonderful; the crafty photo's with tasty captions peppered appropriately throughout this guide left my partner (who does not accompany me) recommending more sights than I could handle. A keeper, if not just for that.

Great Book, from concept 1 till 1.8T. Shame there are no pictures of the new beetle in different colours. Red an Grey are mainly used for the pictures which are from great quality. As I am not good in English ( I'm from Belgium ) the book was easy to read. I'm sure, if I have my new beetle I'll hug it (or her). One of the best car-books I've ever read. You can see that Matt Delorenzo (the author) really loves the new bug.

After having followed the New Beetle from its first concept I wanted to know the full story. This books tells it all and it has some great pictures of the various prototypes and special models. There's even a picture of a NB in Herby style (by Neuspeed). I recommend this book for everyone who wants to know the full NB story.

I'm still waiting for my new Beetle, but in the meantime, I've got this great picture book! I loved the color photos, the history of NB and the side-by-side comparisons of the Beetle vs. Golf. This book is a must for all NB enthusiasts, especially those affected by NBAD (New Beetle Affective Disorder). If you read only one book this year, read this!

What a good read! I don't necessarily read car books, but this was a cover to cover good story! The photography is top-notch as well. A non-enthusiast will enjoy the book and will likely become a full-time enthusiast by reading. VW-fanatics won't be disappointed. Plenty of R&D-type stuff in here to keep you interested. Also neat that the publisher put the book out with four different colors--one for each of the most popular beetle colors!

I own a 1969 DSpecial and I am very happy to see it listed in the serial numbers provided with the book! I would like to talk with some others owners of Déesses in the world, to exchange news and experiences. My next curiosity will be to see if one can discover, from the car's serial number, the exact date of production. Who knows more about this?

Avid enthusiasts, restorers or those interested in learning about one of the world's most innovative marques. The book is a well written and comprehensive treatise of the Citroen DS marque from it's inception to demise in 1975. It covers all versions of the car and is easily understood by those of us less technically minded.
A Must for the restorer or for those just interested in the technical details including trim selections, colour combinations and various details from the earliest cars to the late models of the mid seventies.
A thoroughly enjoyable experience - just like owning one.

You need look no further for an outstanding guide to the history, mechanics, and pedigree of what must surely be the most original car ever engineered - the Citroen DS. I would recommend this guide without hesitation to anyone either interested in the car in the abstract, or actually intending to undertake a restoration. The illustrations are thoughtful, helpful, and (in the case of exterior shots) almost romantically posed; the language is clear throughout; Reynolds does an impeccable job of making the book useful to the non-gearhead enthusiast. My only complaint is that the book is such drool-inducing & lethally glossy DS porn that I fear it will make the experience of non-ownership all but unbearable for fans, and so further increase the competition for those few magnificent cars still available.

The book includes good photos, many details and is inspirational to look through. Every single development of the car through it's lifetime appears to be covered. A must for the DS/ID owner setting out to restore a specimen of these highly individual and sophisticated vehicles. Written in a language understandable even for a non-technical mind as Yours truly.

I've owned and restored 9 DS models and have been around a hundred or so more. As much as I know about the models, this book has doubled my knowledge with one purchase. If you are a serious Citroeniste, you absolutely must have this book on your shelf.

Unless you're going to drive many miles each year, the full treatment probably won't be worth it. (By my estimate, the modifications will cost perhaps $10,000 to $15,000.) However, the back of the book deals with reality for the rest of us and he makes suggestions for less amtitious projects. I will follow many of his safety and easy-to-do suggestions, but won't go "all the way".
I would recommend this for anyone contemplating changes to his/her RV to increase performance of economy. Read it from cover-to-cover so you know what's possible and what each modification will do, then decide what's right for your rig and situation.
