Of course, the thrill of having my restored C.H.P. Mustang on the front cover of the Ford Police Car book will bias me a bit...but not much. This is an excellent reference book on Ford Police Cars. Sanow has done a lot of research and can support his information with facts. This book has been a great resource for members of our Association, the Emergency Vehicle Owners & Operators Association, www.evooa.org. Great reading and filled with good photos!

I bought this book just for reference. But when I started to read the book I realized that some common things I have grown acustom to was actually a problem in the car. And this book showed me how to fix the problem. I was able to rebuild the entire front end of the car myself!! This book saved me thousands in labor...

I would rate it 10 stars!! But I can't!!!

This book is great but is missing something.

I think that the book is extremely helpful. The only problem (so far) that I can't fix with this book is - How do I fix the rattle of the air ducts above the headliner with out butchering the headliner?

Thanks

This book will allow you to take your mustang apart and put it back together. It's only limitations are: the electronics section should be more extensive, there should be part numbers with every item, factory paint colors, emissions could use some more detail, etc. But overall, this is a great book for the 1979-88 mustang, because we all spend at least a few hours a month doing maintenence to keep them from falling apart.

very thorough

What a Decade the 1950's and what a car the Ford! This is a Must book for fifties car buffs and Ford car buffs. The whole decade comes alive with beautiful color pictures, facts, prices, stories on every Ford from 1949 to 1959. It takes you through the 50s one year at a time and as a Baby Boomer it brought back so many wonderful memories of a Golden Era that will never be repeated. I cherish this book and regard it as one of the best ever written.

Best Book Around About Fords of the 50's!

This is a must-have book if you're a Ford classic car buff--or a 50's fan. Author Mike Parris has a way with words--and pictures. Parris provides the pertinent (and most interesting) facts and stories behind Ford cars of the fab 50's, gleaned from research as well from interviews with some of the decade's key Ford execs. Included: behind-the-scenes info that brings the auto scene of the era to life. Photos are from premiere Detroit auto library collections--but also include Mike Parris' original (and outstanding) photography. (I especially love the pics of the Woodies, wood-sided station wagons that came and went with bobby-sox--seems they weren't practical once put to the test--but talk about a look that's gotten funky-cool with age!) Also included: some of the fun and nostalgic advertising of the era. This book is a visual treat and captures the golden glow of one of FoMoCo's fabbest decades.

Clement's book is one of the most important books in the Space Technology Library series. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University was wise to choose it for its graduate coursework in Space Science. The graphics were very good. The information was up-to-date, and the supplemental material on the CD was delightful inlcuding the tongue-in-cheek humor. I look forward to the next version as Dr. Clement gathers more information.

The references at the end of each chapter provide a wealth of information to dig deeper.

Describes how to do many things. At times the walkthroughs seem kind of vague since at times their is only 1 picture per job. Probally would be good if you have some experience working with cars. If not you should probally go with the Haynes version, which I probally will buy soon.

Exotics from Iowa and Wisconsin
Helpful Votes: 12 out of 13 total.
Review Date: 1998-07-01
Not many Americans are aware that "exotic" racing engine technologies, like dual overhead cams, intercoolers on superchargers, and multiple valves per cylinder -- were first fully developed in Iowa, New Jersey and California -- not in Europe. A few remarkable and mostly German-American engine builders, notably the Duesenberg brothers and Harry Miller (ne Mueller) developed the fastest automobiles in the world in America in the period before the Great Depression. These cars raced on the best tracks in the world, which were hand crafted out of 2 x 4 lumber.

Americans were racing at speeds well over 100 mph on these wooden tracks by 1920 -- well before the nation had adequate roads for motorists. (Borgeson explains that the reason road racing did not catch on in the US was altogether basic: no roads).

This is a very fine book, and it is wonderful to see it back in print. Another good book on this subject is "Gold, Guts and Glory," which is an unfortunate title but a fine collection of essays on the board track era by several different authors. Borgeson's classic is especially strong on Harry Miller. The author himself re-imported and restored one of Miller's famed front drive racers, a car purchased and "emulated" by Ettore Bugatti in the mid-1920s.

Work of a legend...A must read for the enthusiast.

At the time of his recent death in France, Grif was just completeing this second edition of this brillient work. It will be published this fall by SAE. Larry Crane, Automobile Magazine's art director say, "he was the purest iconoclast I will ever know." Automobile, Nov. 1997. His work is legendary. His research was paralleled by very few. A must read for the fan of the car enthusiast.
