I really enjoyed this book. Frank Adkins covers a ton of performance upgrades for you muscle Mopar. He stresses the benefits of upgrading the entire car, not just the engine. Engine swaps, brakes, suspention, axle, cooling, and electrical are all covered. He provides a nice road map to performance for your Mopar when you are gathering thoughts for that trip.

Good technical information with helpful diagrams.

The book covers all the basic systems with many options for performance upgrades at minimal cost. This is easier than thumbing through all your old magazines or investing in several other books.

There is finally a saviour to us millions of owners of single cylinder OHC Honda engines and bikes.

Clymer have produced a book with a wealth of information on every Honda unit (as best I can tell) for the last 35 years. Regardless of wether you want information in regards to general service or for a complete overhaul this will have it.

Wether you have the original manuals or not you will require this book if you wish to do your own service work. Just make sure you check you are reading about the right engine/bike before you do anything.

Great for kids and adults to share
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2002-01-23
I bought this book because my two-year old son loves trucks, but I was going crazy reading the same kid's books over and over. What's more, spending so much time reading and talking about trucks made me curious too. I bought Colossal Earthmovers so that my son and I could share a book we'd both enjoy, and it's been great. He loves the pictures (which usually include a person in them, giving a good sense of scale). We just had a few parents and toddlers over this week, and the book was the center of attention.

If you're looking for a book that kids and adults will enjoy, this is a great choice.

To any one who loves the big machines this book is a must have.

Keith Hoddock has got to be one of the premier authors on this subject. Keith has 10 chapters of some of the best writing on earthmovers that you can find. There are numerous pictures from B&W to color, that show all the different types of machines being discussed.

This book is also loaded with facts and figures about different machines and manufacturers that make it a very good reference guide.

This book will make a fine addition to any earthmoving library.

Unmissable

McBeath is both clear and precise on all the matters covered in this book making it useful for newcomers and seasoned engineers alike and manages to cover material useful to pretty much any discipline of motorsport.

For planning out the aerodynamic design on a competition car it is unmissable. Don't try modifying your car without reading it first!

Downforce and Aerodynamic Analysis Done Well

I have now read 3 books on aerodynamics and their application to motorsports. Simon McBeath has done an expectional job of presenting the information in a logical sequence at a level that both the beginner and experienced can benefit from. His style of writing keeps the topics interesting providing not only the technical data needed, but applying it to real world situatuins with valuable photos of high quality.

I found myself more inclined to read this book cover to cover than some novels I have read. A truly excellent book that was better than I had expected it to be. Very well done.

A must-have for the serious modeller
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.

Since Mr. Wingrove is one of the most famous master modellers this book is a must-have for everyone trying to start or improve a similar craft.
The book provides very clear steps in achieving this and just overflows with ideas and solutions. Personally I wish I would have purchased this book, and volume 2, years ago. Volume 1 explains how to start and undertake the project of creating a car model but should be accompanied by the second book from Mr. Wingrove. Both volumes complete each other in many ways where the second volume goes into the tools required and also deals with 1 complete car model project, being the Bugatti Royale. Highly Recommended!

A Good Reference Book for Advanced Modellers

Hello,I have been building models since my youth and I built difficult models from Pocher of Italy and Revival. This book mostly covers the cars of the classic era and it has drawings and sidewievs of the models mentioned. The book is mostly black and white but it has a section of coloured pictures of the built models
All of the drawings are good,in scale and the techniques and descriptions are excellent .The author uses some custom made special tools which are not able to get from the market but I think they were described in the book 'Unimat Lathe Projects: A Beginners Guide to the Lathe and How to Make Ten Useful Tools' from the same author 0904568202.I did not find that book yet and no guarantees.
I will recommend this book for the advanced modellers who has scratch building skills and able to use multiple machines lathe, drill press and materials, plastic, wood, brass, leather etc..I hope these will help

Where Mr. Wingrove deals with the more generic aspects of the craft of building model cars in the first volume, the second volume deals indepth with creating a Bugatti Royale masterpiece, the book contains scale drawings, numerous tips and tricks and covers basically all aspects of such a build. In addition Mr. Wingrove explains many special techniques and the use of a large variety of tools used to make these extraordinary models. I consider it a must have for evryone aspiring to become a master modeller or trying to improve their skills. I wish I had purchased both volumes years ago. Highly recommended. Even if one were only to learn 1 or 2 extra skills from these books, they will be well worth the money!

Mr. Wingrove has some amazing talent! I am just getting started in brass modelmaking and I bought this book and his The Complete Car Modeller 1. Both book are indespensible for the wealth of information in them. I could not recommend one book over the other as both of them have unique information in them. However, I was really looking forward to the release of the second book because it covered scratchbuilding car panels in copper plate. This is covered more indepth in the second book.

Great info here! If you have an interest in flatheads - for future use or historical perspective, buy this book. Great info here. It's basically a collection of articles written by many of the greats of past & present: Kong Jackson, Barney Navarro, and many, many others. Over 200 pages of info and black and white photographs. It is the only book that looks at the same engine from so many points of view, and has such a broad scope of information. If I could only buy one flathead book, this would be it.

An in depth look at our favorite flatmotor

If you're a flathead lover, you should own this book. There's a great deal of reference material in the front half of the book, and interviews including building suggestions from THE Barney Navarro, Don Francisco, Joe Reath, Tony DiCosta, Kong Jackson, Ron Ceridono and a great piece on Kenny Kloth, a real hands on guy who has doctored a STOCK BODIED '49 Merc coupe and unblown engine to run over 140 mph at Bonneville. That, friend, is an almost unbelieveable achievement. Tiny T bodied 296" Merc motors had a hard time doing that in the 1950's. These geezers know their flatmotors! Listen in!
