I purchased this Book as a gift for my father , who had raced in the Baja 1000 in the early years. He enjoyed the book and thought the stories rang true as he remembered. I have since tried to buy other copies of this book and have not had any luck finding them available . This book makes a great gift ( If you can find It )

Baja's rugged desert challenge: a history

Marty Fiolka's 1000 MILES TO GLORY: THE HISTORY OF THE BAJA 1000 tells of one Dave Elkins, who in 1962 rode his new Honda from the Mexican border along the Baja peninsula to La Paz as a test of the new motorcycle: a journey which would take nearly forty hours and which would create incentive for other racers and manufacturers to test their endurance in Baja's rugged desert terrain. 1000 MILES TO GLORY documents these ventures in a year-by-year history which begins at the 1967 inaugural race and continues to modern times. The evolution of vehicles, colorful participants, and zany and incredible racing stories blend with full-page color and vintage photos to provide an outstanding visual survey and history of the people and vehicles involved. If you like auto racing in general and the Baja 1000 in particular, you can't miss this treasure trove of details.

Great Vintage Book!

Review Date: 2004-01-04
This book rates as one of my favorites and I would recommend this one to anyone serious about vintage Beetles!
If you're serious about having your Beetle 100% original this book shows the reader the 49-59 annual changes made to the Beetle and what options are correct based on serial (production) numbers of the car.
It also shows correct paint codes and the options for the different models of the car (deluxe, standard, or export).
This period of the production of the Beetle is probably the favorite for any vintage fan and this book is definately an interesting and informative read.

A Must for Beetle-maniacs!

Whether you own a 1949-1959 Beetle, or just dream of one, this is your book! It contains extensive information on your dream car, and guides you through the car in an excellent manner. The authors of this book have made thorough research before writing the book, and that benefits the reader. You can rest assured that the information you find here is accurate, and will help you understanding your car better. Because after all, it's not just a car, it's a lifestyle! You will find all the details you need about your car, which in it's turn will make you a better Beetle-owner.

I wish every driver would read this book
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 5 total.

This should really be a must-read driver's ed book for every driver in the U.S. (and Canada, I presume). In plain English and accompanied by good illustrations, it teaches the reader how to drive safely. Sure, a lot of safe driving practices are just common sense, but, as the book reveals, sometimes "common sense" is incorrect or dangerous. The book deals with all kinds of safe driving topics, from proper sitting to road rage to avoiding and handling crashes. It's very easy to read and understand as well as to reference after you read through it the first time.

The book seems to be out of print but you can get it as part of the $80 AAA Road Adventure Emergency Kit (available here on Amazon in the Automotive section). I think AAA should include this book in every new member's welcome kit. (Too bad most AAA clubs are run like businesses rather than true motorists' clubs.)

So, a plea to every driver who has bothered to find this page: get this book and study it!

'Driving Survival' is a must read for anybody who gets behind the wheel, regardless of how much experience you think you have. Jim MacPherson has crafted an easy-to-read AAA Auto Guide that will open your eyes. It had handy information on topics as varied as increased rollover risk, the correct way to adjust your mirrors (I had been doing it wrong for more than 20 years) and what to look for when purchasing a car. The book is also laid out well with clear, concise graphics and loads of sidebars. It's the type of book you read from cover to cover or use as a reference manual. You won't regret purchasing this book. It could save your life or the life of a loved one.

Harley riders develope a passion for the bikes. Maybe it has something to do with a safe vent for midlife crisis. If you are looking for a Harley novel read "The Second Coming Of Age" by: C. Vedrine

Much more than the title suggests...

While the title suggests a listing of parts you can buy for your Harley, the book actually covers "What you can do to your Harley". The sub-title says it better: "A Guide to Personalizing Your Bike". The book is loaded with fabulous photos (and diagrams, where needed, like where they tell you about the real meaning of dyno numbers). I read every single page with great care and attention, and I know I will do so again.

The table of contents clues you in right away about what awaits you inside: Paint, Seats, Handlebars and Foot Controls, Powertrain, Suspension, Wheels and brakes. The subtitles in each section go much further. Installing inspection covers, re-jetting the carb, how to lower your bike (and why you may not want to), practical advice on changing handlebars, choosing an exhaust system, and setting up your suspension are just a taste of what you'll be getting into in here.

If you're wondering what are the possibilities for modifying your Harley-Davidson, here's the place to start.

Comprehensive Textbook

Review Date: 2007-04-16

This is one of the best books on the market on aircraft engine design for the professional engine designer and aeronautical engineer specialising on this subject. The book is well organized and well written with clear and easy to follow explanations.

The book methodically, step-by-step guides the reader through the engine design process from request for proposals for a new aircraft to the final engine layout.
The author clearly presents the concepts, principles and design issues of modern gas turbine engines. The book has great explanations, diagrams and figures that the reader will find useful and helpful.

The book comes with the AEDsys software on COD-ROM that gives in depth computational support for every design step.

All-in-all, a fantastic book that is well recommended to the target audience.

I foung this book to be a very good reference for Allis Chamblers construction equiptment. While it contains little information on the AC farm tractors, this book covers nearly all of their construction equiptment. There are individual chapters for each type of equiptment, witha thoughle history of each modle. At the end of each chapter there are detailed specification sheets, as well as an apendix of serial numbers and years, so you can pinpoint your tractor's date of manufacture. The book goes gives a good history of the original company, as well as somewhat of a history of the major companies that AC bought, such as BUDA. The book also contains information on models of equiptment continued on into Fiat-Allis, such as the FA HD-31. The book covers all eqiptment, from the first early Monarch crawlers, all the way up to the giagantic HD-41's. There are chapters on industrial eqipyment, such as forklifts, and small crawlers, also inclued. If this author were to write another book like this, I would be first in line to buy it.
