Eight hundred fifty dollars for a car seems cheap now, but it was only just within the grasp of the everyday man in 1908. "The Model T: A Centennial History" is a celebration of the hundredth birthday of the first affordable automobile, marking an era when America would gain mobility like never before. An in-depth history of the vehicle describing why the science of its design worked for America, "The Model T" is enhanced with countless black and white photos, some of which have never before been published. A must for true car lovers.

A Great Book

This is a very good book that will appeal to a broad audience. Robert Casey has written as much about the cultural aspects of America's entrance into the motor age as the vehicle that started it. There is also plenty to hold the fascination of the technically minded with Casey's discussion being accentuated with many charts and pictures of the inner workings of the Ford Model T. The chapter on "Manufacturing the T" is nicely illustrated and gives an enlightened explanation of the evolution of the world's first assembly line. The chapter on "Selling the T" provides some very interesting background on the people that helped create the phenomenon of the T's success.

This book is a great for the novice who is interested in police motorcycles and the officers who ride them. Pros and cons of each brand of bike, qualifications to be a motor officer, equipment and more are covered here. Great companion to Genat's incredible book "Harley Davidson Police Motorcycles". Heck, buy 'em both!

All you want to know about modern day motorcycle officers!

I really enjoyed this book because it not only gives you great pictures of police motorcycles (Which there are plenty of!), but it also talks about the equipment both on the bikes and the officers use while on patrol. I also enjoyed the section on training and what it is like to be on patrol on a police motorcycle.

The best book on police motorcycles ANYWHERE!

This is a fabulous book! It has a full gallery of awesome color pics of police motorcycles, and eye-catching information on them as well. Plus there are sidebars covering topics like the pros and cons of each brand of police 'cycle, police motorcycles in pop-culture, the relations motorcycle officers have between other kinds of law enforcement officers(patrol car, air unit, mounted, etc.), police bicycles, and off-road police motorcycles. Great pics, great info, GREAT book. A must for any enthusiast of motorcycles, police vehicles, or just police motorcycles in general.

No pain and quite a few chuckles...

I bought my first copy of Mike Arman's book some time in the mid 80s. I wore it out. Then I bought another. That got a bit frayed too. The third copy is, like Laura Whatsername, "wrapped in plastic"...to keep my greasy fingerprints off it. Let me tell you what I do...I write stuff - including technical stuff - for motorcycle magazines here in Oztralia. For me to do this work successfully I need rather a lot of reference material. Putting it as bluntly as I can, Mike Arman's book is simply the best guide to motorcycle circuit maintenance one can buy. If you want to go into the intricacies of 3-D ingnition mapping or integrated circuit design, look elsewhere, but if you want to know how to rewire your machine so it doesn't stall every time it looks like rain, or so the lights work after dark - two unsolvable mysteries to the owners of Italian machinery - then Mike's your man. Time for me to testify... An acquaintance of mine was having trouble with the standard wiring loom on his Honda 400cc four-cylinder machine. He decided to rewire the bike using Motorcycle Electrics Without Pain as a guide. He used only the existing wiring loom on the machine for materials and ended the exercise with 40 metres of wire left over. And everything worked. On that basis alone, the book's a bargain. As well, it's written in a no-nonsense, entertaining style which is bound to raise the odd chortle here and there as Mike explains the way things electrical work in the real world of motorcycles as opposed to the way electrical theorists would have us believe they work. And it's especially applicable and entertaining for anyone who has had any dealings at all with the electrical work of the company founded by Joseph Lucas, the Prince Of Darkness. Sincerely, I cannot recommend this book highly enough for anyone considering looking into the arcane art of motorcycle electrickery. And it's a damn good read as well.

"Motorcycle Electrics Without Pain" is the only book I've ever read that actually explained the electronic on my bike in a way I could understand, and the book didn't even cover my model. I highly recommend that anyone who is trying to troubleshoot their own electrical problems buy and read this book.

As a coffee table reference work, this book stands head and shoulders above the rest. The depth of coverage, the use of factory photos as well as current state of the art restoration examples and vintage racing pics make for an interesting read. Although a very small portion of the written information is not completely accurate, this is one book that any and all true muscle car fans should have in their library.

A "must" for American automotive enthusiasts

The Ford Mustang has been an American automotive icon and and an enduring symbol of road freedom from its original debut down to the present day. Mustang Legends: The Power, The Performance, The Passion is a visual and historically informative tribute to one of the most popular American cars to ever roll off a Detroit assembly line. Enhanced with more than a hundred full color photographs, and truly great stories contributed by Peter Egan, Allan Girdler, Brad Bowling, Jerry Heasley, and others, Mustang Legends is a "must" for American automotive enthusiasts in general, and anyone who has ever sat behind the wheel of one of these fabulous cars -- or wanted to!

Excellent Book on the Glamor Aspects of Mustangs
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2004-05-03
Mustang Legends focuses on the most highly prized Mustangs, including those featured in the movies (such as Bullitt, Diamonds Are Forever and Gone in 60 Seconds), high performance versions (including the Boss, Cobra, Shelby and Saleen), and some beautifully restored models. Even in the most mundane essay, you're likely to see a Saleen exhibited . . . even if it doesn't have anything to do with a Saleen.

The book is leavened with stories about the launch of the Mustang (including a surprise chance to drive one from the New York World's Fair to Detroit, and a late night unveiling by a family member), reactions to the first Mustangs by formerly staid sedan owners, the pleasures that young people found in their parents' and grandparents' Mustangs, musings about what a "Stangworld" theme park might operate like, and reflections on why driving restored Mustangs from the 1960s is more than nostalgia . . . it's a statement about personal freedom.

The book is chock full of gorgeous illustrations of exteriors. I would have liked to see more interior details (which can be seen, of course, on the many convertibles displayed here).

The book's main weakness is that it provides some technical data on the engines, but little else about the cars. It would have been fun to have seen the technical evolution of the car displayed as well.

I haven't seen another Mustang book nearly as good as this one, so I advise you to rev up your little Cobra and head down to the book store to get one.

Covers all the GT's,GT/CS,1968 1/2 Cobra Jet,Mach1,Boss 302,Boss 429,Grande and Shelby mustangs. This book has got the lot.Its a softcover book and its very high quality and highly researched by these well known Mustang authors:Larry Dobbs,Donald Farr,Jerry Heasley and Rick Kopec. These guys know their mustangs and this book proves it.

Ever wonder....

"What options were available for my year Mustang?"
"What options were included in the Mach 1 package for my 69/70/71/72/73?"
"What is the REAL difference between a 64 1/2 and a 65???"

The answers are contained in this book.

I've been restoring Mustangs since I was 19, back in 1989. This book is one of the first that I bought and has been with me ever since. I use it all the time, referencing ID codes, engine combos, options packages and a multitude of other details. This is one of the most comprehensive and accurate volumes that you will ever purchase. Personally, I'm on my third copy.

The book details year-to-year body and trim changes, interior and exterior options, powertrain combinations, paint/trim combinations, as well as a complete VIN # and Data Plate decoding matrix. It is written in a factual, yet easy to read manner that is not interjected with any form of opinion, slant or spin.

Since you are reading this online, I can assume that you may have been to some of the Mustang discussion forums on the Internet. The amount of incomplete, twisted and just plain wrong information that is tossed around by some of the posters is phenominal. If you have ever questioned the postings of another user, I heavily recommend you get this book.

Whether you already own, or are considering the purchase of a 64.5~73 Mustang, this book should be in your library. It can make the difference between a great purchase and a "What the heck did I buy?" purchase.......

Seriously, just buy this book..........

An informative and historical book of farm tractor power.

I have purchased many tractors over the last 25 years and I wish that I would have had this book all the while. The Nebraska tests evolved to provide the farmer with a standard of comparison to gauge his power requirements. Many manufactures prior to these tests boasted claims, but there was no real way to be sure. This book explains the need for this program and gives complete and comprehensive results for 'every' test. I find it a very interesting and informative authority of tractor power and reliability.

Charles H. Wendel's tireless research provides a very compelling volume of information for the farmer, collector, restorer, or enthusiast. Presented chronologically, the volume offers technical data on hundreds of makes and models, ranging from John Deere, International and Minneapolis-Moline, to lesser know and specialty tractors such as David Brown, Bates Steel Mule, and Big Bud.

Each tractor's technical information is accompanied by a photo (in some cases and actual photo of the tractor at the test lab). Data is incorporated directly into the text and the volume is very well edited.

The one book true tractor enthusiasts should not be without.

The Nebraska tests were the one thing that standardized tractor ratings. This book is full of information that can be found in bits and pieces elsewhere, but is complete, from the testing lab to you,in this volume. A must have for the serious tractor hobbiest or professional. Lots of good pictures and info on even some of the rarest of tractors.

A fascinating book for any owner or dreamer of the 90-96 Z cars. Filled with great facts and stories. Especially interesting is the initial goal the Company set for itself in designing the world's number one sports car. You learn how various designs and decisions were made in developing this legend. You also learn about the men behind the car and how they all contributed to it's success. This Z car always won Car and Driver's top 10 award every year and for good reason. You can buy more expensive cars, and you can buy more exotic and faster, but dollar for dollar the Z car is truly the best sports car in the world. I just wish this book wasn't so short in length, but like all great reads, you finish and want more.

If you own a Nissan Z car, you absolutely must own this book. I've read it three times so far and still don't know all there is to know about Nissan's famous Z Car. The book is packed with information on the design and development of the 1990+ Nissan 300ZX. It also has a few chapters covering the early Z cars and also some great information on Nissan's racing efforts.

Bill covers Triumph models TR2 through TR6 in this book. He found cars that are as close to original as posible for his photographic layouts. He has included many unusual shots of interiors and engine compartmnets to show details that are not normally covered in "Coffee Table" books.

Bill is very knowledgeable on all TR models and conveys this information in a most interesting manner.

If you are restoring a "Basket Case" this book is a must.
