The car buying process is an ordeal, to say the least. You never know if you are getting a bargin! With my limited income, I want to make sure that I was getting a good deal, and I did! This was my first new car and IntelliChoice's Complete Car Cost Guide helped me narrow my search and find out what it will really cost to own a car, let alone buy one! Kudos to IntelliChoice for helping consumers save thousands of their hard earned dollars!

Head and shoulders above other buying guides.

This book was an immense help. The text portion of it really helped me focus on what was important to me in my next car, and on how to evaluate cars. The rating and ownership cost section was a real eye-opener. Without it, there is a good chance that I would have picked a vehicle that cost more to insure that I thought, and that depreciated more than I thought. I ended up buying a "best overall value" vehicle, and I'm delighted.

I have a modern Mini but my interest has always been in the Classic Mini. I belong to club that started as a Classic Mini club. These guys know their cars but this book is an invaluable resource. I am able to surprise these guys from the knowledge I get from this book. I bought it when I was in London and read it cover to cover on the flight back to the U.S. Of all the Mini books I own, I use this one in my quest to purchase a Classic Mini. This is the book I recommend to others who are interested in one or want to know more about the Classic Mini.

You would think a Mini was a Mini, but you were wrong!

I was deeply confused when a Mini wasn't a Mini at first. People always knew the Mini Cooper, but not the Austin Se7en and the Morris Minor and those vehicles didn't start out as small little cars. After reading the book, you can definately get confused with all the cars and names. In the end tho,you can tell each model apart. For those who wants to get a Mini, don't hesitate to grab one of these books because many sellers would mismatch parts thru different years. Another book to get is The Cars of BMC which is discontinued but worth every penny. Also, another book is John Parnell's Orginal Mini Cooper and Cooper S.

A must have for all Mini Enthusiasts

What I can say - one of the best books about driving I ever read. It should be read by anyone before going on the road, but it is even more helpful if you are an experienced driver. The more you drive the more you are convinced that the author is 100% right. The only problem it's only a book and you need practise too :)

I'm a driving instructor and I mean it when I say that this book is outstanding and one of a kind. After reading it, drivers can begin to understand for the first time what to expect from their cars under a variety of traction conditions. Many people, without knowing it, regularly drive beyond the range of their own skills - usually because they've had a driver's license for a while and because they've been lucky. This confidence is false and when an emergency situation presents itself the streak usually comes to an end right then and there. Read Mr. Beedle's book and not only will you develop the kind of real driving skills that can be relied upon even in emergencies, but you'll have the tools to prevent some emergencies from ever happening to you. I plan to buy a copy for each of my friends and relatives, most of whom are "seasoned drivers." It's that good.

this book should be used for driver's ed.

This is a straight forward, to the point book about car control. It emphasizes the importance of those four round things that are the cars only contact with the road-the tires. Put down that cellular phone and coffee mug and read this book (not while driving). There a must read section in the book for SUV, minivan, and pickup truck drivers too.

I purchased this calendar for my 8 yr. old son's room. He is a Corvette junkie with a collection of 100+ Corvettes in his room. Every morning, he'd jump out of bed and tear off a new page to see what new Corvette he had. Only problem is... he doesn't want to throw any pages away. We now have 365 pages!

This was the best book I have ever read in my entire life of 87 years. I am a female and usually I am not taken seriously when showing my curiosity of the best American sports car ever created- The Chevrolet Corvette. I am a diehard fan of this extrodinary automibile, and, I, myself, have a collection of 30. This book satisfied my hunger for Corvette information without all the unneccesary sh*t. I would like to congratulate the author on the creation of an exemplory book on an extrodinary automobile.

The best Corvette book ever!

This book reads like a novel; its engrossing and fascinating! Great pictures, great story, great writing, great reading. I read a lot of car books - this is well done. It really goes deep into the history of the car, yet is never boring. Highly recommended! This one stays on my bookshelf - I'm looking forward to reading it again another day.

As the owner of three Corvettes, I know a bit about Corvettes and their history. This book taught me a great deal more about America's sports car. It is exceptionally well-written, and will be interesting to both the Corvette enthusiast and those who only know that Corvettes mean fun. Randy obviously did a great deal of research for this book, and it shows.

What really sets this book apart from the myriad of others written on this subject is David Newhardt's brilliant photography. A contributing editor to several automotive magazines, David's talent for placing Corvettes in front of unusual backgrounds that complement the Corvettes' lines is unequalled.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who has ever had his or her head turned by a Corvette.

If remember the days when you used to hang out at the drive-in and spend most of your free time at the wheel of your convertible (and some nights in the back seat), Cruisin' is definitely the book for you. This book has it all--it's a real flashback to a time that had no equal, an era of cars and freedom that will never be again. The Bash images and Witzel photos are way cool and really send you back in time. Whether it's hot rods, muscle cars, and the many places and pastimes we indulged ourselves with, this book is the definitive scrapbook of America's car culture heyday! If you love cars and enjoy the trip more than the place you are goin' to, you 'gotta get this book!

Old Dodge trucks were, let's face it, not the best sellers in truckdom. We Dodge owners are few and far between, so trying to get information on how it looked back then is often an exercise in frustration. This book is packed with information for the rebuilder or restorer: which parts were used for which years, which engines, options, brakes, trannies, etc. Has been a great reference for getting my 55 and two 57 pickups roadworthy again!

Finally, a book for fans of racing and racing art!
Helpful Votes: 10 out of 10 total.
Review Date: 2000-05-26
What a fantastic book! Michael Turner not only shows you amultitude of examples, most of which are beautiful full colorpaintings of various racing subjects from what appears to be the 50's right through to present day, but he also provides basic lessons that will assist beginners and professionals alike. The cover gives away the content in that the bulk of the book consists of Formula 1 cars, but the principles contained within can be applied to other drawing disciplines. Mr. Turner provides suggestions for the materials to be used to render your artwork and covers all aspects from drawing the car itself to background setting and the various details in between. Rudimentary lessons are provided in the basics of perspective, ellipses, and overall development of the vehicle's appearance from a simple shell to a fully detailed racing machine!

It would be foolish to say that reading this book will instantly have you creating masterworks on level with those in the book, but the techniques contained within will certainly set you in the right direction. I cannot recommend this book enough. As an aspiring artist and racing fan, I often lamented the fact that there were no books that specifically combined my two loves. Thanks to an ad in an issue of MotorSport (which I picked up on a whim) my wish has now been answered! For artists, or just for fans of racing art, this book is highly recommended!

Its a very good book, at the same time similar and not similar to Thom Taylors "How to Draw Cars like a Pro".
I gave this book a 5 star rating, but there is just one thing that was making me feel like giving it a "4", the thing is that the book could have some more explanation about the colouring process, beacause painting is not that simple to understand for a beginner artist. Well, I hope that more books similar to this one will be published and i can promise i will buy all of them. I like it.
Thanks Amazon.

Race Cars and Art - Perfect Match Demonstrated
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2000-10-01
There are a lot of photographers specialized in capturing exciting moments in motor racing. On the other hand, painters on motor racing is not easy to find. Michael Turner has been painting racing cars for some years and his works had been published and well accepted by F1 fans.

This book is not one just to demonstrate his works but it actually walks you through on how to draw and paint racing cars. With Michael's expertise in this area, you won't feel lost while picking up the techniques described. If you want to try it out yourself, this is a very good book to start with. Don't expect to become an expert right away but at least you have the expert telling you where and how to start.

This book is absolutely one of its kind, you couldn't find any other like this one.

I travel alot to visit my college students. I am usually traveling alone and realized that 911 is not always the correct number to call in an emergency. The correct numbers are posted but only randomly. This is a problem when you have an emergency and have not been keeping track of the correct phone number as you change states or areas. I found this book and got three. I immediately placed one in my car and one in each of my two childrens cars. It gives me peace of mind that they will have the proper emergency number if they ever need it.

This is the greatest book and much needed for anyone traveling on the road. Most people are unaware that 911 is not an option everywhere in the US, and that dialing 911 from a cell phone is unreliable excpet in big cities - I learned this the hard way. This little book is great for a glove compartment or purse and it will provide you with emergency numbers for every state in the US! Plus, road hotlines, tourism contacts, seat belt laws, helmet regulations, alcohol BAC, radar detectors and more. And, each number is personally verified for accuracy. Very handy and a must have for RV people and campers! I love it - it will be with me everywhere I go! Well worth the price.

A great book. Maybe I'm just partial because of the vivid five page stretch devoted to the Comp Daytona.

There are lots of Ferrari books out there, good books, filled with well researched bore-n-stroke, nuts-n-bolts facts, but I've always hungered for something a little more subjective, a little more visceral.

With this one you get visceral.

The cover doesn't look very promising, does it? With its distinctly unhistorical 599 and convoluted invocation of "The Ferrari Legend" I was expecting a bland model-by-model, race-by-race statistical history. But John Lamm's discriminating compilation does Ferrari history justice; it is told in first hand accounts by those who, (as honestly stated in the title), "lived the legend."

The number of anecdotes, photos and especially voices contained in here is staggering: you get the ubiquitous Phil Hill, but also Enzo Ferrari's personal secretary Brenda Vernor; you hear Mauro Forghieri's thoughts on Villeneuve; Andretti's on Forghieri; you get Sam Posey describing in detail his 1971 Le Mans drive in a 512M; Surtees talking about Dragoni and team politics; Gurney on going to Italy in `58 to try out for the Ferrari team in front of Mr. Ferrari; Dario Franchitti on why he loves his F40 and F355, not so much the more recent cars.

This is not another competent but impersonal coffee-table book, (Ferrari 1947-1997, Ferrari 60 Years, etc.).

Here's Steve Earle describing his experience as a teenager watching Phil Hill in the glorious 412 MI at Riverside in `58: "...you were standing in the pits, you could hear that car around the whole track...You thought, `Oh my God,! This is the most amazing car in the world.'" Then Earle describes what it was like to OWN this one-off car, and use it at the very first Monterey Historic Races, (which he organized). The book has similar interviews with a number of enthusiasts that really help flesh-out the non-competition aspect of the legend. Everyone from the life-long collector who bought his first Ferrari off the New York Motor Show stand in 1956 to the dude that crashed his Enzo on a public road in Colorado while doing 206 mph gets a chance to tell his tale.

Many of the iconic photos are from the Road & Track archives, which is great for American readers whose first introduction to the marque came via these images; they are reproduced in gorgeous detail far surpassing their news-stand quality. My favorite shot is used as the splash-page that introduces us to the decade of the 70's: Bob Bondurant four-wheel-drifting a 308 at Sears Point --you can even see Bobby's hipster sideburns flaring under the G-load.

Also, the book tastefully avoids over-emphasizing the recent decade of F1 domination. Attention is paid to the latest road cars, like the 599 Fiorano that makes the cover (wouldn't you have preferred to see a Comp Daytona?). But these post-Commendatore chapters are not the main meat of the book. The Schumacher years are dutifully recorded, di Montezemolo speaks, but you can sense the author's disinterest in Schumacher the man, whose words are nowhere to be found. And that's fine by me.
