This is the classic text on Chinese brush painting written by a British woman who studied in the traditional manner with Asian painting masters.

Her presentation is thorough (history, tools, technique, pedagogy) and she guides the student through the traditional first four "subjects" that are traditionally studied--the "Four Friends", i.e plum, bamboo, orchid, chrysanthemum--in that order. Mastery of these four subjects thoroughly schools the students in the brushwork required in this style.

Even those who do not wish to paint in this style exclusively should study this work. Western style painting can only benefit from the exquisite sensitivity of brushstrokes disciplined in this tradition.

This has become one of my favorite Dover books. The designs are lovely, and print very clearly. I use these for making greeting cards, but also for making mailing labels. There are really a lot of very fine frames.

Aquest llibre de Jesús Martín Barbero és l'exemple més brillant de les moltes aportacions que la comunicologia llatinoamericana ha proporcionat els últims 20 anys. És un llibre original, informat, profund que ha obligat a revisar la manera com l'emergent comunicació de masses -d'ençà de mitjan segle XIX- pren els temes i els gèneres de la tradició cultural popular. Aquesta filiació directa de la cultura industrial urbana massiva occidental amb la cultura popular tradicional queda exposada de manera entenedora i magistral. Però, encara més, en la intepretació de Martín Barbero s'hi apunta un nou enfoc del complex procés històric anterior: cal abandonar les visions apocalíptiques que presenten la consolidació de la cultura i la comunicació de masses com a responsable de la hipotètica mort de la cultura popular; més aviat, hem de plantejar-nos que el popular s'adapta a la modernitat mitjançant l'industrial/massiu. The crucial importance of Krug's book for me was how it managed to merge my personal experience of contemporary life with the highly stimulating intellectual work of analysis, social and political theory, and philosophy. As I traveled through the book (which indeed was a journey covering history and many developments in 'media' that have affected human beings), I found myself integrating and deepening my thoughts and reactions to life. This is a precious and euphoric experience which few books can provide. The book confirmed many of my gut responses and hunches regarding our 'mediated' realities, especially the internet and the use of email. Krug pulls together so many fascinating thinkers integrating "place," "social space," "letter writing," "censorship," "surveillance," "pornography," and our society's response to 9-11. It is a brilliant book that I will use as a reference for years to come. Krug proves through his astute, politically constrained yet equally politically pointed thoughts that the internet isn't what it's cut out to be and that communication and community truly begin and end with face to face contact situated in a physical space.

The principals of the Del Mano Gallery have presented an excellent photographic rendition of the extraordinary craftsmanship exhibited at their Los Angeles (Brentwood) gallery.

While the photo illustrations are excellent, the photos do not do justice to the actual visual representation of each piece. These works of art need to be seen first individually in order to appreciate their craftsmanship.

The book arrived in a timely manner and was in brand new condition. I am highly satisfied with my purchase.

Although this book (series) is geared towards high school students, there is something in here for everyone. The essays vary in their subject matter and style, and anyone can learn something from reading them.

I highly recommend this series if you are at all interested in the history and current situation of our relationship with the Middle East, and why 9/11 and the 2 Iraq war(s) occurred.

This is one of the nmost readable treatments of the subect of EPSS I've come across. Designed as a practitioner's guide, it also provides an introduction for business executives and decision-makers to orient them to what EPSS can, and cannot be expected to accomplish.

All fundamental technologies of EPSS are describe in plain English, followed by implications for instructional designers and performance technologists who will be defining functionality, information architecture, navigational and interface designs and assessment of applications. Sample code and design templates, along with over 3-dozen planning and implementation job-aids, and a side-by-side comparison of development tools and technologies make this an invaluable addition to one's library.
