Joseph Ungar puts together steps and thought processes that enable you (thru practice) to put your ideas down on paper efficiently. The important thing to note is that his techniques will become part of your work sense, and your style will emerge through practice. A strong and agile concept presentation style is a designer skill that Ungar clearly demonstrates, and, in turn: one that a learning designer can quickly grasp.

As a Film Studies lecturer, for years I have been unable to find a really solid, readable, all-round affordable textbook for my 16-19 year olds students. Bordwell & Thompson's Film Art is a bona fide classic, but it costs an arm and a leg. Pam Cook's The Cinema Book, likewise, on both counts. The rest (and there has of course been a vast amount published about film) is nearly always specialised, to a greater or lesser extent, tending to focus on certain directors, certain stars, certain genres, the film output of certain countries, and so on. This book, on the other hand, written by three British academics, covers the waterfront. It doesn't attempt to be comprehensive (that's where you need Pam Cook), but aims to include all the essentials in an intelligent and straightforward way. Hence you get chapters on the industry ancient and modern, basic film form and technology, critical approaches, and various film movements and national cinemas. Not a huge number of illustrations, but those included are right on the button. There's an extensive glossary, and a good list of current websites featuring film material.

This movie was OK, I guess. I was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: The Secret of the Ooze. I watched it a lot of times. It was not that realistic. I mean, who believes there could really be Ninja Turtles. But overall I think it was enjoyable. It has some new characters: Toka and Razar. The price here is cheap, and I think kids would like this movie. So why don't you take my advice. Buy this movie if you liked Ninja Turtles 1 (or if you saw it) because the turtles look more real here too.

Very good over all. The book contains lots of easy to use information on what equipment you will need to do TLC, why you should chose TLC over the other chromatography techniques out there, very nice sections breaking down exactly how to do tests for proteins, carbohydrates and other binders in paint as well as step by step processes. My only complaint is that this is a book primarly aimed at art conservation professionals and I am having a hard time transfering some of the techniques to architectural conservation (so far it looks like it is easier just to do uv light and other convential analysis).

"Your Future as a Project Manager" by Frank P. Saladis, PMP addresses the issue of instability in the careers of project managers. Saladis emphasizes the need for project managers to continuously improve their knowledge, skills, and abilities in order to remain marketable in the dynamic economy.

Saladis questions why project managers like their jobs if their jobs seem to lack stability. Why not go into a career that would ensure security? Based upon his studies and the input of the seminar attendees, the general consensus is that project managers thrive on the challenges of the industry. They enjoy the constant change, and they like to coordinate the parts of the project. They like being in the hub of change.

Saladis states the obvious: the best way for project managers to ensure job security is for them to do their jobs well. The project manager must realize that the project needs to meet the goals of the company. When completing even the most mundane tasks, the project manager needs to take a step back and make sure that the project is meeting the goals and expectations of the company. It is also important to realize that the goals may need to be adjusted throughout the project. He emphatically states that if the project is determined not to meet the needs of the company, then the project may need to be aborted.

Saladis is a talented and informed speaker. I not only learned from the CD, I enjoyed listening to it. All project managers will learn from this CD. I especially enjoyed his "ready, fire, aim" paradigm. He points out that project managers must also remain physically fit. He explained that a person cannot be in top mental condition, unless they are in good physical condition.

I recommend "Your Future as a Project Manager" for managers who want to get a competitive edge that will ensure career longevity in the dynamic economy. Listen, learn, and enjoy!

Although this book is titled "Ziegfeld Girls Paper Dolls", there is also a doll of the great Ziegfeld himself, even a wonderfully silly costume he wore to a ball which satrised his own musical revues. This is a very witty collection of paper dolls, with terrific portrayals of the most famous of Ziegfeld's female performers of the early twentieth century wearing some magnificent costumes. The highlights are depictions of Anna Held, Fanny Brice as Baby Snooks, Billie Burke and Clare Luce on an ostirich.

Structurally, the book was interesting. Several characters narrate the book, and the plot unfolds around a central issue--who owns a particular house. Who can live in the house? Who can sell the house? But, the major problem is that the characters are difficult to identify with or find sympathy for. All three of the central characters--Kathy Nicolo, Lester Burdon, and Colonel Behrani--remain the same. They are never changed by incredible circumstances--death, murder, suicide, inprisonment--they remain the same. Kathy has a chip on her shoulders that's never explained and Lester is just plain stupid. What motivates these characters? The reader never knows. Kathy gets herself into trouble blindly and so does Lester. The reader is left wondering how these two are bungling through life. Surely, every human has some kind of thought process that at least partially puts the world into focus--but Kathy and Lester never do. Even in jail, both Kathy and Lester are still thinking about sex with each other. Well, their worlds have fallen in on them and there is no opening in sight, and they are still thinking of a little sex. Unbelievable! Where is the introspection? When Kathy's relatives show up at the jail, she still has a chip on her shoulder. Why? What's happened between them? The writer's job is to give us some insights into human relationships. The insights are missing here. Colonel Behrani is a little easier to understand. He's outside his primary culture. He operates with a different world view than most of us, and thus we cut him some space. But even he doesn't change. His last coherent thought is that his daughter should sell the house for a certain amount. That's why the book ultimately seems flawed to me--the characters are unbelievable, unlikable, and ultimately are boring. I also agree with the reviewer who said the book is not for kids. I know there is an audio version for kids (unabridged)--but this book is definitely not for kids. The sex is raw, the drug additions exposed, the blind and stupid behavior accepted. I don't think this book will be much discussed in a decade.

Avid Reader

OMIGOSH, how is it possible to hate a person who has had her home taken away erroneously (but I did hate her)? And to hate the 'noble'(lascivious) police officer that comes to her rescue? Even though Kathy lost her home due to ignoring important mail regarding taxes, I found it so difficult to sympathize with her. That creep Lester had NO redeeming qualities; bullying Col. Bahreen while pretending to be an officer was deplorable--Not to mention jumping into bed with the 'poor victim' almost immediately. So, faced with the dilemma of whom to root for--I found myself feeling guilty for supporting Col. Bahreen.

This is a great story of tragedy. I found it an easy read and couldn't put it down. I finished it very fast because the writer keeps the story moving. Very good writing as the characters are strong and easy to imagine. Highly recommended.

Events occur & become intertwined with one another. Dubus keeps you wondering where it is all heading. The book is easy reading & you have to
keep reading to FIND OUT what is going to happen! When NOT reading this book I found myself wondering what Kathy & Lester & Behrani (the main characters) were up to next!

I gave this book 1 star, only because the review requires at least 1 star. This book was given to my 14 year old son to read for a High Honors required summer reading program. He read through the first 2 chapters and handed the book to me and said he wasn't going to read it. My husband and I then read the book and discovered extreme graphic sexual content, not just once, but, many, many times! The description of the sexual content is not done in a metaphorical way, it is exremeley graphic! I'm totally disgusted and appalled that not only did a teacher choose this book, but that it was approved by the Director of Curriculum! PARENTS BEWARE!!!

This book is an incredible resource of stories, advice, common sense, but mostly compassion and understanding about how it is up to each and every one of us to create and manifest our own reality. Learning to be a kindhearted, sensitive person who is aware of another's needs, no matter how difficult they may seem, will eventually lead to understanding and love, and the world will reflect that back to us, even in the form of our Mothers-in-law. This book should be required reading for all brides to be. A wonderful job and a wonderful read!

Gives insight into the inner workings of complex relationships between the two most important women in a man's life. Very thoughtful and I love the three parts of good, bad, and ugly. Really puts things into perspective! Every daughter in law or daughter in law to be needs to read this!

I'm a newlywed and currently have my "monster-in-law" living with us. Before she moved in, we were the best of friends but things drastically changed and I can't even manage to be in the same room as her! I'm desperatly seeking some kind of advice and there are no books out there that relate to my situation. I'm only 24 years old and have no kids, so it seems there aren't any people out there that can relate or there just isn't anyone who has written about it yet. This book is the closest I can get. Although it is a great read and has wonderful advice, about 80% of the information I can't relate to. I highly recommend this book but it's not for me.

I found this book to be unnecessarily confusing, at least for a beginner. Perhaps part of the problem is that better raw materials have become available since this book was published. It is also poorly written, with incomplete sentences and strange syntax. It would have benefited from a good editor. The examples (in photos) are quite bizarre, but even if you are inspired, there are no explanations of how the result was achieved. The nicest example is on the cover, in my view. I also bought Sherri Haab's book, The Art of Resin Jewelry, and recommend it.

Kathie Murphy produces an excellent book which gives you an insight into the many types of resin, the pros and cons of using each type together with safety information.

I have both the "English" and "American" version of this book, if people are unsure when it comes to specific word or description, check it out for yourself. There is not that big a difference. Books are global!!

Just be thankful that we have a book that really helps people understand this amazing medium. Beautiful gallery of work, if you work with Resin, this is a great book to have.

This is another of the published both sides of the pond at the same time. The only problem with this book is the lack of careful editing done by the U S publisher krause publications.
So as to the subject matter it is covered only to the depth of giving the hobbyists an idea of what is involved in making jewelry out of resins and epoxies. It does go into the safety concerns, but not in one section all through the book. It is laid out so you can skim thru it and find what is interesting and use that section. It does have a half useful glossary. It was a forerunner of the new group books on this sub category of jewelry material use.
One thing that I had to track down to make sure of what it was as mentioned in the book was misspelled. It was spelled linicher which a friend in England informed me is correctly spelled linisher which in American is belt sander.
Even with the short comings it is a starting point for anybody looking in to getting started in resin jewelry making. Some of the resource guide places are out of date. But a web search will come up with more than enough locations for info on plastics and resins. I own it and will be keeping it

This is a great book for people who seriously want to make resin jewellery. It has step-by-step instructions accompanied by lots of photos. I was not fussed on the finished jewellery examples (not really my style) but the processes and procedures are really good.

I like this book not only because it explains the technique of resin casting very well, but also for its beautiful pictures of real resin art. Although I will never be able to produce such work, you get the feeling that she sky is the limit with this material
