Courageous woman uncovers torture, coverups and femicide

While the summary gives away some hints of the book there is a lot more to be covered specifically how Maria Tulsa uncovers how much of the torture, murders and government terrorism in El Salvador was aided by the United States. That's probably what people should focus on the most. Even in today's age the hypocritical points the finger at Iraq and other countries for sponsoring terrorism yet has aided terrorism and dictatorships in places like Argentina, Guatemala, Chile, Nicaragua (Samoza dynasty) and many more country.

Some things never change. Anyhow, as mentioned Maria herself is born not just from a poor family but a poor crazy family. Her mother and father are simply terrible cruel parents who don't give her daughter anything, her siblings abuse her and low and behold it's her Grandmother who is the only person that Maria can honestly call a relative.

Later on she marries, and her husband is murdered by the government and labeled as a terrorist for striking. Maria can't even find her husband's dead body to claim (something that happened in other countries like Argentina where the government exterminated thousands of people yet wouldn't even tell loved ones where their victims bodies where). Simply disgusting. Maria's story is very familiar to people who have done research and have lived through this sort of thing.

She didn't just become a victim but an activist starting the Co-Madres group. Her story is sad but inspirational it really deserves more attention than just the three reviews here on Amazon.com

It is amazing to see what kind of atrocities go on in other parts of the world. What's even more of a shock are the institutions put in place to keep the masses oppressed for the benefit of a few. This book opened my eyes to the widespread repercussions of the cold war, and how the US supported tyranous regimes in the name of "defending democracy".

It opened my eyes to the human atroscities in El Salvador

It has been said that a laugh a day keeps the doctor away...and at a laugh per page at 399 pages, this book should keep you healthy and laughing well over a year.

Bruce Singer is a humorist extraordinaire. As Mark Twain was in the 19th and Will Rogers in the 20th Centuries, Bruce Singer is taking on the 21st Century as the latest "humor therapist."

Mark Twain once said "the human race has only one really effective weapon, and that's laughter." Hey... Just Tell the Truth should be your weapon of choice to raise your spirits, relieve stress and harness the healing power of humor.

Keep up the good work "Dr." Bruce!

Hey...Just Tell the Truth Be Not a Lying Liar

What a delightful discovery this book is---written by a little known author and published by a little known publisher. It just proves that wonderful jewels, gold, and oil can be discovered in unusual places. Just pick it up and read two or three of its snappy witticisms---many of them actual quotes. It is a great addition to the back of anyone's commode, which is guaranteed to bring a smile to the face of your family and friends.

A MUST HAVE FOR YOUR FUN READING AND SHARING COLLECTION

A Parody Par Excellence

This parody of parodies distinguishes itself through pristine, yet sophisticated, humor. The reader is asked to assume the position of ... let's say a ... Johnny Carson in his role as "Karnak the Magnificent." Gives the answer - while the astute reader supplies the aha! moment. Without being categorized as a "Lying Liar," the book supplies a gentleness of humor which is what the author is all about ... Humor enough to heal a hurting world - while steadfastly leaning neither left or right. Kudos to Bruce Singer who has written the quintessential companion reader to the New York Times bestseller by Al Franken. Lots of food for thought here.

Funnier than Franken - 10X 10X10 !

WOW! After reading Hey, Just Tell the Truth... I have a better appreciation for Al Franken - and guess what? Al does have a sense of humor - especially as seen through the eyes of Bruce Singer. I think Singer is 10X10X10 funnier than our pal, Al. And, that's ok - we all have to start somewhere. I laughed until I cried! There were times in the book that I forgot to breathe! My girlfriend wouldn't let me read it during dinner. I want more of it! Singer can supply it!

Singer, with his steely wit and insiteful clarity makes a great case in favor of finding the fun that's hiding all around us! We all need more humor in our lives and Bruce gives it to us in a masterfully written satire/parody of New York Times best selling author, Al Franken.

Frankly speaking though, where Al might teach Bruce the ABC's of humor, Bruce can teach Al the rest of humor's alphabet! And, especially the XY and Z's of humor. This book has got to be the greatest satire/parody that I have ever read.

I'd like to see Al Franken team up with Bruce Singer! They would make a great team - and they could turn out some of the greatest, most profound and funniest books since Mark Victor Hansen teamed up with Jack Canfield. Al and Bruce!!!! Mark and Jack! Dick and Jane! There's literary genius cooking when multiplied by 2 - and I want a double portion!

I can't wait for Singer's next adventure in Satire!

Mousourakis has written a comprehensive survey of Roman legal history from the Twelve Tables to the Codification of Justinian. Besides a detailed analysis of the sources of law and an account of civil and criminal law procedure, it contains sections on social, economic and cultural life. The book does not attempt to summarize the whole law, but explains and evaluates its most characteristic and influential features. It concludes with a detailed select bibliography including scholarly and foreign language publications. This is a well-conceived and well-executed work, and one that does a real service to the student of ancient and early European legal history.

A very readable and informative text on Roman legal and political history, offering a good description of the socio-economic circumstances in which legal institutions developed. The emphasis in this introductory book is on forms of law making, the role of jurisprudence and the development of procedural law. The history of Roman criminal law and procedure is also examined. The last chapter offers a useful outline of the medieval and later history of Roman law and discusses the role of Roman law in the formation of the European civil law tradition. Both law students and students/readers of ancient history will benefit from reading this book.

This book provides a good introduction to the history of Roman law in English. Mousourakis has written an interesting and stimulating book on a highly complex subject. As a historian he has analysed institutional change in the legal system of ancient Rome giving full weight to non-legal, socio-political, factors which led or contributed to that change. The book manifests scholarly qualities of a high order. The author's reading extends over an exceptionally wide range of topics. The exposition is clear, well structured and easy to read. The references in the text are accurate and helpful. This book can be read with profit by any reader with an interest and general backround in ancient history, and is to be welcomed.

The aim of this book is to provide a general historical introduction to the development of Roman law, a system of law described as "one of the strongest formative forces in the development of the Western legal tradition". Judged against that aim I think that the book succeeds admirably. In about 450 pages Mousourakis has provided the essential information about the subject, and he has done so with clarity and style. As long as it is remembered that the book is not designed to provide a full account of the complexities of substantive Roman law, and is therefore likely to be used in conjunction with other more detailed materials, it has a place in making Roman legal history more accesible to readers in many diverse fields of legal and historical learning.

The History of Government from the Earliest Times: Ancient Monarchies and Empires; The Intermediate Ages; Empires, Monarchies and the Modern State (3 Volume Set)

Finer's triumphant work of comparative government history is a rare gem. It is not often that a historical study is both deeply informative and perspective changing. This book is both. Finer does not simply outline the devolopment of government, but constructs an entirely new intellectual system for viewing, interpreting, and discussing government. From there he moves on to trace the evolution of government from Sumer to the Industrial Revolution. Every major development is explored, and many minor ones are also included.

Finer shows a mastery of every time and place in history. It is amazing that he can conver accurately and informatively Han civilization and then switch to an excellent discussion of Roman civilization. The same skill with which he reconstructs the governments of Sumer and Egypt is applied later to the constitutional monarchies and revolutionary governments in modern Europe.

Finer's masterpiece ought to be read by anyone interested in an objective study in how societies orgzanize themselves. It is a highly useful reference that should be owned by anyone who works with history on a regular basis.

This book is one of those rare works that is so very good, that you cannot really describe it: language is not rich enough to do it justice. I can do little more than quote from the review of the prestigious The Economist:

"If there were a Nobel prize for political science, Sammy Finer would deserve to win one for this extraordinary trilogy--a work of scholarship so broad in its sympathies, so ambitious in scope and so elegantly crafted that it leaves the reader gasping, literally, with astonishment and delight...[L]ikely to be read as long as Aristotle. No finer work of political science...has been published in this century."--The Economist

Best of the Century

This three-volume set constitutes the most stimulating and thought-provoking item I've read so far this century, and it is likely to remain so. I stumbled on it by chance in the Bookshop at the British Museum in early 2001. I read it in the United States later that spring and since then a day doesn't go by but what I remember some insight that I gleaned from it. It is history in the grand style, but with a message that is simple and powerful: people are pack animals. They will be governed -- sometimes in a haphazard or mediocre manner, often appallingly, once in a while really well. Not least among its many virtues, the set shows better than a thousand stumps speeches just what is so distinctive about the tradition of liberal democracy, and how it came into being (for more detail, pop over to the separate Amazon page for Volume 2 of this set and read the instructive comments of "Amazon Customer").

A motivational message to prospective readers who are dismayed by the prospect of a three-volume set. You don't need to read all of it to get value for your money. You don't even need to read it in sequence (I did not). Perhaps the most accessible parts are in Volume III, especially Books IV ("The Re-creation of the State in Europe) and Book V ("Pathways to the Modern State"). From there you might want to go back to Volume II, specifically Part III of Book III, more precisely still Chapter 7 on "The Republican Alternatie: Florence and Venice," followed by Chapter 8 and its magisterial discussion of "Representative Assemblies." From there a natural course is back to Volume I and its discussion of Athens and Jerusalem (Finer is particularly good on the distinctive contribution to governance from the tradition of the prophets). This is a Western-centered view, and should not be read to distrct attention from Finer's extraordinary treatment of the Chinese, the Indians and the societies of the Middle East. But these are in some sense self-contained units and can be addressed on their own terms.

This backwards progression would leave for last the stuff that Finer put first: the "Conceptual Prologue," which is perhaps better understood as a summary and analysis. But whatever route you take, surely there is no end of riches in this extraordinary capstone to a great scholarly life, well lived.

Ever so often you find a book that not only deepens your insight on the topics you expect it to cover, but also gives you a wholly different perspective in a much wider field. This is such a book. This book covers the whole field of development of government. The first part gives a referencemodel for descibing government, its most important uses and the powers limiting it. This part would be a satisfying book in itself. The most fascinating parts come later. The rest of the book discusses all the governmental systems that where in some way innovative. All you ever wanted to know about goverment and but never knew that it could be so interesting. But it als gives insight in the mechanisms of power. The description of the signifcance of access to an chinese emperor and the importance that gives to humble titles as royal cupbearer etc. lets you see patterns you can see in everyday life and more important lets you enjoy them. I found the book to be full of these gems, and at the same time it maintains a clearity of focus that is amazing. The only drawback is it's size and the time it takes to think about what you have read.

Mike Hillyard's book on Homeland Security and the Need for Change is an extremely timely and important book in the changing world that we now live in. After recently taking a Master's-level courses in National Security Policy and Homeland Security through the Defense Intelligence Agency, I thought that I had a good understanding of the importance of Homeland Security, but Mr. Hillyard's book shed even more light on the little-known subject. There are many authors attempting to write about Homeland Security, but none can compare with Mr. Hillyard's understanding of the need for change that we Americans must make in the future.

A Welcome Addition to Homeland Security Literature
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2003-07-14
This publication is a welcome addition to the growing body of literature regarding Homeland Security. While the vast majority focus of books on government bureaucracy, organizational change and technological solutions, in his new book, Michael Hillyard chooses instead to emphasize that instead the answer lies in the education and training of the American citizen. Using historical examples dating all the way back to the Revolutionary War, he shows how people that are united together, in a common cause, can accomplish anything. By equating the analogy to the current Homeland Security challenge, the author accomplishes an extremely valuable service.
By highlighting the key role played by the local and regional first-responders, Hillyard demonstrates his grasp of this complex subject. That is the true value of this book, for it lies not only in his approach, but also the methodology that he employs to build a model for success in the future. The fact that many of the chapters were previously published as stand-alone articles, in respected journals, also add an air of authority to the manuscript.
In probably the best section of the book, in Chapter 6, Hillyard describes the need for a reassertion of the role of citizenship by the United States. He believes through the areas of prevention, mitigation, planning, response and recovery, that America can develop a concept for a greater citizen engagement in the role of Homeland Security.
I think that my only criticism of the book comes from a lack of a conclusion. While the case study on Three-Mile Island is great, a summary of all of the great points made in the book would have been nice. In addition, a checklist of Hillyard's recommendations would have been good to add as an appendix. However those small critiques notwithstanding, overall, I thought that the book was very good and makes a contribution to the body of knowledge concerning Homeland Security.

Right on Target

Review Date: 2003-03-12
Hillyard has hit the nail on the head and has called attention to a critical link in the homeland security chain. He clearly reveals that homeland security is now everyone's job and how things can be exacerbated when people do not take responsibility and do this job. In this book he clearly notes that citizens must be proactive, and thus be trained, in basic homeland security response items such as being a resource for first response, basic assistance, and remaining calm at the targeted site. His message is that this must be taken seriously and the ability to recognize, respond and report a top priority for those who live and work in local communities. He notes that this is not a new concept and cites several examples of heroic life saving and property protecting acts performed by engaged citizens such as postal service workers, for example. Local citizen agencies as well as those in the highest levels of the national government will benefit from the message in this book.

The book the terrorists fear.
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2003-03-08
Terrorists will hate this book. In the wake of September 11, a plethora of books has spewed forth, with not a single logical, workable "battle plan" to defeat terrorism--and do it right in our own neighborhoods. In addition, the author presents a compelling argument and blueprint for exactly HOW and WHY every citizen can run terrorists to ground. By putting the correct focus--with the correct components--on education by the main players in the homeland security arena, we are at last able to wean ourselves from the hand-wringing lament of "Why can't the government DO something?!" He lucidly dissects the worst statement our government made immediately post-September 11; i.e., "Go back to normal; everything will be okay." We did; and it wasn't.

Further, there is an astonishing account of all the errors that led up to the Three Mile Island accident. While that occurred in 1979, Dr. Hillyard makes an airtight case that a terrorist doesn't have to destroy a nuclear power plant--or any other piece of our infrastructure--he or she need only create FEAR. Aided by the sensationlism of the media and the on-air drivel of "experts" (who are not), they combine to create a tsunami of fear that quickly overwhelms us. In its wake are strewn the wreckage of warnings, workable plans for protection, and the seeds to ensure the same crisis does not repeat itself.

If you want to know how you CAN defeat terrorists, with no risk to yourself, why the terrorists are so vulnerable and can do nothing about it, and how you can wage the war on terrorists the day you read the book, buy it! It's one of a very few books that don't have a political agenda or pure stupidity at its core.

This was an excellent read. Well written with clearly organized ideas, this book tells us what life is like for a gay midshipman trying to live up to (and succeeding) proper military ideals. You get a feel for who the author was as a human being and how unfair it was for him to be dismissed according to a military policy based in fear. Gay men and women who are looking to serve our country in the military would do well to read this book.

A very honest rhetorical satire on 'reality' . The author narrates the actuality of the country 'stalked' by homophobias. It leaves us thinking about how should we face up with such controversial issue; to feel for these individuals or to contiue with the discrimination that is presently destructing and murdering their spirituality. A good start-off for individuals who would like to expound on this issue.

An account of a young Midshipman's experience at the Naval Academy, and ultimate litigation as a result of his dismissal three weeks prior to his graduation. This book is well written and one more in a growing list depicting the mindless discrimination policies against homosexuals in the militar y. Joseph Steffan, as a cadet, was exemplarary in all aspects. Ironically, his dismissal was a result of his adherence to the "honor code". He refused to deny his sexual orientation, even though his conduct was never in question. A truly sad commentary on the military today, but nevertheless, the reality.

I read this book a few years ago and was particularly interested because I had lived for years in Steve Gunderson's congressional district, had met him several times and had voted for him. He was first elected as I recall in 1980 as part of the Reagan Revolution. He was a decent enough fellow, did his job conscientiously and probably with his background in agricultural issues might've ended up as a Secretary of Agriculture perhaps. Whatever his rise was in the Republican Party it pretty much was ended after he was "outed" although I was impressed in the book about his friendship with Newt Gingrich and Gingrich's acceptance of his homosexuality (then again, one of Newt's sisters, I believe, is gay). Say what you want about his personal lifestyle, if it had a bearing on his political future (and how could it not have) then it was the public's loss in the long-run to have a conscientious congressman like Gunderson take himself out of the political arena.

Being the only gay GOP congressman, Gunderson's book is worth reading if only for that fact. I had moved out of his district by the time he was "outed" by "B-1" Bob Dornan but I recall having heard years earlier about his being gay and knew that one of his Democratic challengers during his tenure had struggled with the idea of outing Steve himself in order to try and win the election; this was long before Dornan decided to do what he did. In the end the Democratic candidate decided to keep the news to himself, so to speak, and not make an issue of it. He was soundly defeated in any event, by Gunderson.

As a liberal Democratic activist, I was suprised how much I liked this book. While I had known Representative Gunderson was hardly one of Ginrich's drones, his independence impressed me in some cases.

Throughout the book, Gunderson and his partner are frank in exploring the balancing act between being gay and Republican. It also makes no bones about the dislike for former Representative Robert Dornan (who was thankfuly replaced by Democrat Loretta Sanchez)Yet, at the same time Dornan was responsible for Gunderson's outing, the congressional conservative unwittingly freed his colleauge from a long standing dilema.

Myself included, some allies and GLBT people might forget there are Gay Republicans and they are just as deserving of equal rights as the more typical members of the community. In a non-judgemental tone, this book shows the skeptical reader just how difficult it can be to maintain those two identies. Ultimately, honesty is the best policy.

In a day and age when politicans from both sides of the aisle are caught up with imagery instead of truth, reading this book is a thought provoking and humbiling experience for any individual regardless of party or sexuality. Although I might disagree with some of Gunderson's decisions, I at least know that he has character depth.

Very interesting

This is a story once again that shows how religion damages gay people, but how individual integrity can win out. Gunderson seems at times naive and is often trapped by his homophobia. His struggle to accept himself is painful. I wished for more House and less Home, but it is his story to tell and it was very interesting and complelling.

The text is divided up into headings, subheadings, etc to lend sufficient visual interest, and this makes it significantly easier to skim the book if necessary. The writing style is neither humorous nor bland.

Subjects covered:
The book is divided into eight parts, is further divided into 33 chapters by subject, and is further divided into 116 "actions."

The parts are these: Building community. Raising the next generation. Computer activism. Protecting the environment. Food, hunger, and agriculture. Socially responsible banking and investing. The responsible consumer. Peace, Justice, and social change.

Each "action" is fairly brief, only a couple pages, and tells you some background information about the subject, argues why something should be done, and tells you what you can do, and who to contact to learn more and actually do some things. There are plenty of things you can do other than donating money to organizations, such as volunteering or making changes in your lifestyle. Interestingly, the last action listed in the book, number 116, is about supporting gay rights.

Since this book was published in 1995, much of the information may no longer be of use:
~ References to the Internet are obsolete, since this was before the World Wide Web.
~ Changes may have happened to mailing addresses, phone numbers, and fax numbers of organizations to contact. You'll have to Google them and find out where they are now.
~ Statistics aren't fully up to date, although ten-year-old statistics are probably satisfactory information.

Suggestions:
~ Since a lot of this book is disappointingly out of date, get it from the library rather than buying it. Don't feel bad, since the book itself says that getting library books is better than buying a book you're doubtful about, since it conserves resources.
~ Read this book with a notepad at hand, to jot down things you found interesting: points, actions, and names of organizations to look up later.
~ You can read this book in short breaks when you're fairly busy with other things, since its layout makes it very easy to find your spot again to resume reading, or to skim.

a perfect guide for the perplexed

This book is different from most books of the 50 Ways to Save the Earth genre because it covers a diverse array of social, political, ethical, and environmental problems in an in-depth fashion. The authors explain tough issues like the environmental effects of eating styles in clear, calm terms. The suggestions to make the world a better place range from extremely easy acts to reduce personal consumption to ambitious, challenging proposals for personal engagement with the homeless, the homebound, and others in need of assistance. Not only has it changed my own daily behaivor, I've found it to make a great, thought-provoking gift

The most inspiring book I have read!!!

This is a great book, reminding us that no matter what we do, it affects the whole world. So we might as well direct our attention and affect our world in a positive way by following the suggestions the authors have put together. Extremely well researched and organized book. Everyone can make a difference. I wish everyone would read the book to find out how!!!

Are you human? Do you have a body? Are you and organ donor?
Are you not an organ donor? Are you pro life or pro choice? Well then this book is for you.
It is out of date, but still very important. The out of date part just has to do with the fact that things have changed and more issues have developed since this book.
There is a reviewer here who says he is in the footnotes. Can he contact Andrew Kimbrell and have this book continued out to our current date, so I do not have to explain this book is out of date, but important. Used bookstores ignore this book because it is so old. They do not realize how important it still is. Old book do not have it do not want to obtain it is their attitude.

My only complaint you have to keep adding to this book each year or start an updated website like some books have with a note in the new book to go to it for updates on current bio ethical issues.

Who gets the parts? Who makes the parts?

Want to think further go for this topic and read fiction?
1)Read Brave New World by Aldous Huxley a book way ahead of its time.
2)Rent the Movie The Island a curent movie.

The main take away is that we need to talk about and deal with these ethics. Every one needs to think about their values and not ignore this. Obviously the answer is not an easy one, but get more facts. If you have not read this you are probably missing facts.

One reviewer says this is not a ballanced book nope it is not, but we do not hear this perspective much at all so it provides ballance in the world.

Amazon has a reference for this if you like this you will like other books. Body for Life. That is a diet book, so you really want to skim those suggestions because they just pull up books that say body in them that have nothing to do with bio-ethics or this book. Obviously computer generated.

Thousands of men and women were originally conceived in petri dishes in laboratories from sperm sold by anonymous men for an average payment of 50 dollars. What is the long-term psychological effect on such persons who must live with the knowledge that their conception occurred outside a womb and their fathers were involved in it only for money? This is one of the many questions that Andrew Kimbrell raises in The Human Body Shop, in which he covers the full range of issues relating to the treatment of the human body and its components as marketable commodities, from the controversy in the 1950's and 60's over the sale of human blood to the looming possibilities of human genetic engineering. These are global issues; for example, while the sale of body parts for transplants is illegal in the U.S., the sale of kidneys is a thriving business in India and other developing countries, where the poor are selling their body parts to the rich. Another controversial practice is surrogate motherhood; thousands of babies have been born of mothers who were contracted for the nine-month gestation service, usually for a fee of 10,000 dollars.

Since a 1980 Supreme Court decision that a living organism (an oil-eating microbe) could be patented, the patenting of life has become an accepted practice. As of 1997 over forty animals had been patented, including mice, turkeys, and rabbits. Human cells and hundreds of human genes have also been patented. Kimbrell poses the question of whether genetic engineering will eventually lead to the patenting of a human being?

While treating the reader to a highly interesting recounting of the histories of controversial biotech practices, Kimbrell makes a cogent argument that the marketing of life is dehumanizing; he calls for increased government control in the biotech field, especially as we enter the era of human genetic engineering. There is unquestionably a need for more public debate on biotech issues, but Kimbrell could have helped even more to further such debate by devoting a bit more of his book to the views of biotech proponents, even though he passionately disagrees with such views. Kimbrell's failure to favor the reader with a broader range of views dropped the rating for The Human Body Shop from five stars to four.

A Broad Manifesto

In the vein of his mentor Jeremy Rifkin, Andy Kimbrell has written a broadside condemning all aspects of the bio-industries extant at the 1993 publication date of this book. Well written, and thoroughly researched this is a highly readable in-depth review of the major bioethical issues facing us today. I recommend this book highly and not just because I am in the index. The chapter in which I am mentioned deals with the Harvard or oncomouse and patents on living beings. Andy's account is accurate, well researched, and his opinions are thoughtful and well grounded. If you are not repelled by the politics of Jeremy Rifkin, but have an open mind on the questions of the ethics of biotechnology, this book is well worth your attention.

Kimbrell is the Carl Sagan of our "inner" universe.

Highly recommended! Kimbrell's book is both thought provoking and informative and is very hard to put down. He addresses the things that the newspapers do not tell us about surrogate motherhood, organ marketing and genetic engineering. He tells about the odd court cases and rulings dealing with issues society has never had to deal with before. He also gives examples of how genetics is being used to affect our lives without our consent. The book does an excellent job of raising the reader's awareness of how our species future is presently at a crossroads and why we should be concerned. Interesting topic, clearly presented and well referenced for those wanting more.

Words could never express the gratitude that I have that this book was made available to me as a child, for it has brought the most important positive impact that any book has ever had upon my life, enriching it in every area of my life (spiritually, mentially, emotionally, financially) in ways that I could have never imagined.

This is not just another "Children's version of the Bible", but a straight-forward retelling of the chain of ALL historical events (and thus their lessons) of the Biblical record from beginning to end, in all of it's vivid detail. Youths (and men/women of any age) will easily learn here priceless lessons from both the positive and the negative choices and experiences of many well-known people of the past, because all of the events are told, not just the sweet and most beautiful. (The only accounts that are left out are those of a sexual nature.)

If this rating system had 1,000 points, I would unquestionably have to give it 1,000 out of 1,000. Thank You, Thank You, Thank you, Mr. Hurlbut, for this wonderful service rendered to me.

While we were young, our family read a story each evening together. Hearing the book several times gave me an overall picture of God and man's history and relationship. That's a treasure from my family that will never die. Now my children and grandchildren are appreciating the stories and truths that will enrich their spiritual growth and knowledge. Recently I began using it with international women in Bible studies. They find the larger print and simplicity of language a great help. Yet the Bible's message is unchanged. It is something they can share with their children who often pick up English faster than they have.
