Written by Elvis expert Gail Brewer Giorgio, The Elvis Files: Was His Death Faked? is a revealing expose that candidly questions every aspect of the death of Elvis Presley's and the subsequent official investigation, presenting all the reasons and media that have debated whether the rock star's death was faked. The Elvis Files is an intriguing, closely researched, highly recommended account written especially for Elvis fans who want to learn more about the "King" in general, as much as they can behind what really happened at the tragic close of Elvis' public career in particular.

From the first page I read, I knew I wasn't alone on having the feeling that Elvis was alive long after his "death". Gail's investgation on this book has been well done. Like she says in her book, there have been too many "down to eath people" who have witnessed and have pictures of the man AFTER the man. And shame on the docters and hospital staff for overlooking and destroying valuable evidence of a recently dead SUPERSTAR unless it wasn't actually him. Let's face it a cover up as got to start somewhere! Gail's detailed information had to have come from many resources. I know most of her information is correct because I have read it in other books, one book had been by one of the investgaters on this very case, who also find to many holes in the Elvis Presley case and he wasn't much of a fan of him. I can only hope that Gail puts out another book on this case to let us know "IT'S STILL NOT OVER".

Couldn't put the book down!! Intense!

This book made me look at Elvis in a whole new way. It was so intriguing and mysterious. The documentation of the facts blew my mind! So many questions going unanswered, it makes one believe who can you trust to be the truth? I highly recommend this book to everyone that believes in the truth, not just what they see, hear, or want to believe. This book contains a mystery that may never be answered.

Information to make you think twice.

This book reveals some very interesting information about Elvis' supposed death. Once you read it, you won't be sure whether he is dead or not. If you buy this book, you must also buy the video (The Elvis Files). I love this video.

excellent, a must read for anyone with doubts

Additional Insight by someone working with Errol

This is a great book written by someone who actually new and worked with Errol Flynn.
The author Earl Conrad was the ghost writer for Errol's book "......Wicked Wicked Ways".

Mr. Conrad practically lived with Errol for a time working on Errol's book and remained friends with Errol. Conrad continued a friendship with Errol's parents after his death. The content is great. Conrad writes about when he first met Errol, the time they spent in Jamaica working on the book and even Errol's under aged female companion who was in Jamaica with them.

This book covers what Mr. Flynn could not include in his autobiography for obvious reasons. There's even a medical emergency. Conrad describes in detail a kind of seizure Errol suffered (which seems to have been brought on by drugs). He describes Errol's continued involvement with women even while the under aged female is with him.

There are some rare photos of Errol as a child, Errol in uniform working in New Guinea and a home Errol had built there, etc. Most of the photos were supplied by Errol's parents.

Earl Conrad clearly cared for Errol in the way he writes this book. He never paints any kind of bad picture of our star. Conrad only writes what he sees during work and leisure time personally spent with Mr. Flynn.

This happens to be one of the few books besides Errol's own autobiography and other books written by Errol I've found of value. It gives additional insight into this great man.

I paid $9.95 for a copy (the sticker price) about 3 year ago on Amazon. The current price has ballooned due to the re-sellers greed and rarity. It's a pretty short and small book. I wouldn't even pay $50.00 for it and I'm a stone cold Flynn fan.
A great read but not for $100.00, you may feel cheated........

If your really interested in Mr. Flynn, I'd suggest reading his autobigrapy, "My Wicked Wicked Ways by Errol Flynn". If you've conquered that I can suggest "Errol and Me by Nora Eddington Flynn".
This book is written by one of his ex-wives, his second.
I find a lot of insight into this book as well. The drug use is cooberated by Conrads book.

The only thing that my upset you is Nora claims Flynn beat her on about 2 occasions. On 1 Nora writes Mr. Flynn senior was present(I beleive Flynn's father was a live at the release of this book"). The circimstances are that of taking drugs from a drug addict. Clearly she loved and I think still loved Flynn during the writting of this book. This book is only going for $20.00 bucks too.

If you have any interest at all in the life and times of Errol Flynn then you will enjoy Earl Conrad's book. He depicts Flynn in his near last days living at Flynn's Jamacia hideaway and writing what will become "Wicked, Wicked Ways..". The relationship with Adland, the Flynn sense of humor and the decline of Flynn are all directly portrayed, accurately, yet with kindness. A must read for Flynn fans.

Having read "My Wicked, Wicked Ways" several years ago this book adds another dimension to our understanding of Errol Flynn. It tells the story behind the creation of Flynn's controversial biography which caused quite a stir when it first hit the shelves all those years ago. Earl Conrad was a writer of exceptional ability who was able to create some wonderfully descriptive images of Flynn's crumbling glory as he moved into his final days. This is neither a sensationalist expo-zay nor a flowery tribute. Rather, it is an extremely eloquent, articulate and thought provoking epitaph to the life a Tasmanian schoolboy who went on to become one of the most significant and highly publicized personalities of the 20th century. As a literary work it is a text book perfect example of non fiction writing.

'Errol Flynn: A Memoir' by gifted writer Earl Conrad is the finest book ever written on the life of movie great Errol Flynn. Conrad was originally hired by Flynn in 1958 to ghost-write his autobiography 'My Wicked,Wicked,Ways'. That book was published within weeks of Flynn's death in 1959, and became a runaway national bestseller. This volume is about the year and a half Earl Conrad spent with Flynn at his Jamaican hotel, writing the first book, and is a genuine page-turner with Conrad giving first-hand accounts of his adventures with Errol Flynn. The reader will find himself pulled into the story, and probably wind up finishing the book in a single sitting! Conrad shows us that Errol Flynn was more than a swashbuckling movie star, world famous philanderer, mean practical joker, as well as self-indulgent drunk and sometimes drug addict. Yes, he was all of this, but he was also much more, including a naturally talented writer, self-taught marine biologist, voracious reader, seasoned sailor, and in time a superb dramatic actor.
Readers, climb aboard this ship as it sails into high adventure!

This book gives you the opportunity to get a feeling of what your life may have been like living in the Jim Crow era of Georgia. My name is Bullard and I am a white genealogist. Eugene Bullard was the son of ex-slaves that were owned by a family named Bullard.

It is fabulous to see a black person rise out of impossible circumstances to become an expatriate combat pilot in the French Air Force during World War I. Jazz and Blues is what I listen to every day and the Jazz story in this book is very interesting to me.

Bullard's definitive biography

Eugene Bullard was an African American man who was born in 1895 in Columbus, Georgia, and lived a really fascinating live. After leaving the U.S. in 1912 to escape the existing suffocating racist oppression, he stayed first in Britain, and then settled in France where he lived as a boxer, entertainer, jazz drummer, was a war hero in the trenches in Verdun, and become the first African American combat pilot in 1917 (in French service: the U.S. would allow black combat pilots only in 1941...). After the war, like so many other African Americans, he remained in Europe. He become a well known entrepeneur in the Parisian night club life during the 20s and 30s. At the German invasion in 1940, and after a brief stint in the French army, he went back to the U.S. where he died in New York in 1961. Revered in France as a national hero during is life, and completely unknown in his country until more than twenty years after his death, the life of this extraordinary man has in this book a much deserved homage and, probably, its definitive biography.

A forgotten hero not deserving to be forgotten!

A very well documented biography on a genuine American and French hero. Unfortunately he was born during the Jim Crow era in the south (even though the constitution which was written over 100 years before his birth mentions "all men are created equal", this did not include any non-caucasian's or women, did it? Did not use the word minority since it denotes less than some majority, there are more non-caucasian's in the world anyway and what is really meant by that word is just that, non-caucasian. I find it odd that the USA was founded by European descendants like the English, French and even though the country prided itself on it's progresive nature, it did not include equality, even though Europe itself did not practice racial discrimination). He was born the seventh child of a large family and his father always had a premonition of a very distinguished future for him and let it be known to him when he was young. Talks about his travel through the south after he left home and was told early by his father of a country (France) where all men are truly free. This had a profound effect on him because he eventually made it to France via England first.

He began his livelyhood as a theatre performer and boxer; two opposing and similar avocations. He joined the military and became the first Black American and Black Frenchman aviator and was awarded medals for his bravery, dedication and skills. Very well liked, he had a contagious personality and started working at a famous Paris club later in life and eventually became a club owner himself. He met the famous of the day like Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Langston Hughes, Bricktop and many others. This biography also got me interested in Jazz age Paris to request both autobiographies of Hughes and Bricktop.

Slowly (too slowly) more is being known about this man and his acomplishments and contributions to the human race.

You won't be able to put it down. Jack Johnson's autobiography "In the Ring and Out" is another good bio of that era too.

I had earlier learned of some of Eugene Bullard's exploits, but Craig Lloyd's book spotlights an endless list of amazing achievements that seem unbelievable for any man to accomplish in just one lifetime. It's a shame Bullard's life has been up to now unexplored and uncelebrated. Hopefully this extremely well-researched biography will fix that.

To quote a section in the book in which he describes his wife"I credit her with putting that life-or-death edge on my poetry.." That quote also applies to this book. Every sentence lives with a power and determination which cannot be denied. It must be experianced. I 1st saw Acey at a poetry club during his trip to Chicago in Jan 2000 and was blown away. Yes in the interest of full disclosure I am a fan and there are times when an editor could have helped the manuscript but it's a flawed masterpiece just like it's author.

Taalam Acey gives a brutally honest memoir in Eyes Free. His story is inspirational. Just when he lost everything he owned and was ready to exit this world by his own hand he found poetry. Poetry pulled this remarkable man from the brink. If you've seen Taalam perform you know how he can move you. How he can make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck or leave you speechless with mouth wide open. To think that he was once so down and out and ready to check out. Eyes Free takes us on his journey into spoken word, poetry slams, the ins and outs of performance poetry. He lived a hard life and kept striving to be the magical poet he is today. Surely there must be some force that does protect him. Thanks Taalam for sharing this part of yourself. I look forward to Eyes Free the poetry collection. Eyes Free won Best Poetry book 2004 from Mahogany.

A Poet's Life

Review Date: 2004-10-09
In his candidly written memoir EYES FREE, celebrated spoken word artist Taalam Acey paints an extremely intimate self portrait and allows the reader a raw, unabashed view of his life story. With his straightforward and unencumbered prose, Acey does a remarkable job of affording the reader access to his innermost thoughts and feelings.

EYES FREE is a story of triumph and the ability to change life's challenges into opportunities and then making the most of those opportunities. The author affirms this time and again as he takes the reader through his life's journey, frankly detailing his beginnings as "a child of some of the most god-awful blight the modern world has ever known."

Whether divulging the vivid details of his promiscuous lifestyle before, during, and after his failed marriage, relating the gritty details of his stint as a rapper and then drug dealer, or simply relating his experiences garnered during his travels as a spoken word artist, Acey manages to maintain a smooth, clear writing style that very effectively holds the reader's attention.

Rich with fascinating anecdotes and thought provoking observations, EYES FREE is a thoroughly engaging read and a true testament to the remarkable storytelling ability of Taalam Acey. This author writes with a fluidity of expression that leaves the readers hard pressed to put this book down.

Here is the history of spoken word cleverly woven into the life's journey of one of the most compelling poets ever to grace a stage. Impossible to put down and a must read for anyone who has ever been, loved, or wanted to love, a black man.

You haven't experienced spoken word until you've experienced Taalam Acey. Words fail to describe the effect this man has on the mic. And off. When he says, "someone or something is protecting me", believe it. I still find him inspiring to this day.

Eyes Free is powerful on so many levels. It is a raw collection of pivotal events, places, people and other phenomena that will evoke a gammet of emotion. I found myself laughing one minute (the humor is off the chain) and going "dayum, T!" the next, all the while turning page after page after page into the wee hours of the night. Eyes Free chronicles the travels, trials, tribulations & turmoil of one of the world's finest jewels.

He covers early origins from the oral communication carried over on slave ships, to early poets like Phyllis Wheatley, to Harlem Renaissance and Langston Hughes to The Last Poets. The imagery is so vivid, one feels as if they are right there with him, especially on the night he fell in love with spoken word.

Eyes Free is sensual, seductive and scorching. These "spells" Taalam "Conjures" are no joke. Please take this journey through the eyes of one of the most powerful voices on this planet.

Taalam. Thank you for sharing and showing yourself to the world. In giving so much of yourself, the love you are getting and will continue to receive is but a single drop in an ocean of gratitude for your presence in this here universe. I truly believe and know our ancestors are pleased. Peace*blessings.

Focus on the family has brought back theater to radio. I remember listening to stories on the radio when I was a kid; it stirred my imagination. The stories weren't dramatized as these were. Focus on the family has done an outstanding job bringing stories to our ears with good production. There are two stories in this set: 1. The Play is the Thing and 2. The Grey Lady. All stories have a mystery (obviously!). The ending are not so predictable. They are very good stories though. I haven't found anything like it. Of course, you could listen to book on tapes, but they are just plain boring!

My favorite is the Grey Lady; very creepy and suspenseful story telling at its best!

I decided to get a copy of this book after attending one of Ms.Poulson's presentations and I'm very glad I did. It's one of the best books I've read on how a guy can make a great impression when wining and dining. Her social tips on asking for a date, home entertaining (including simple to prepare candlelight dinners) and hosting business luncheons have all been extremely useful. I also found her compact, quick-reference food and wine pairing section to be invaluable. An excellent guide to modern manners for men.

This is a concise and easy-to-read guide on the finer points of etiquette and manners for fine dining situations at home or in restaurants. I keep it next to my cookbooks and bar manuals and regularly consult it if I'm going out on a date or hosting dinner parties at home. Poulson keeps things simple, which I really appreciate; there are even tidbits on how to deal with difficult situations at the table that I always wondered how to handle. The recipes and course suggestions are also very handy. All in all, it's a great reference for important but often neglected courtesies; I can entertain with confidence knowing that I'm using the right fork and ordering the right wine. A must-have for any gentleman-in-training!

A Must have book on the peerless Astaire and Rogers!
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-05-19
This retro-review is for, sadly, the now out of print 1987 paperback edition of "The Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers Book".This is a re-released edition by Obelisk Books in 1987 and pretty much looks like the original hardcover edition printed in 1972 throughout.
I was really shocked to see that this book had gone out of print, for it is THE essential volume for any Fred Astaire fan,and especially those interested in his period with Ginger Rogers.
Like the original hardcover edition this one carries on with the "flip" pictures in the top right and left corners of the book. That is there are a series of incremental pictures that if one flips through at a causal speed, they can see Astaire and Rogers dancing in two different numbers.A nice little touch.
The best thing about this book though is how the author approaches her subject matter. She starts off the book giving us a short but well rounded look at both subjects and careers pre-teaming.Like the rest of the book you know here is a person who knows her subject matter inside and out and never writes DOWN to the reader. She writes more like a friend imparting details and essential background material on a subject you both love.
After the intro(about 18 pages) we come to the heart of the book, the film by film look at the ten benchmark motion pictures made starring Astaire and Rogers.
Each chapter is divided into four areas.First are the detailed production and acting credits.Second comes "The Film",thirdly "The Numbers" and lastly "Production".This is repeated for each chapter/film throughout the book and the details and knowledge she imparts are invaluable to any serious student of this dancing duo.Her prose are definitely not dry by any stretch and she keeps you riveted to the page throughout.
Here is an example from her chapter on "Roberta",where she is talking about one of the big numbers from the film,"Hard to Handle":
"The context for the number is an informal session on the dance floor of the Cafe' Russe, the audience for it consists of bartenders and cleaning women, and the beauty of it is that it really seems to be happening for the first time-it's like a moment of cinema verite' bursting through the surface of a polished commercial film.
We've all seen numbers in musicals that start in this supercasual way- and the "impromptu" walked-right-into number became a staple of the Astaire-Rogers repertory-but how many times,no matter how good the routine or how sophisticated our response,it happens that we feel a little stab in our childish hearts-"Oh,they've rehearsed".Sanity tells us that Astaire and Rogers have rehearsed;publicity statistics tell us how many back-breaking hours. But the difference between them and other performers is that, watching them,we aren't in possession of our sanity,we're happy children again, the story the numbers tell us is true. And the illusion of spontanteity makes the plot implication of the number credible;it cements the relationship of the screen characters they portray."
This is a typical sampling of Croces' prose and delivery but as you can see she talks with a deep and sure understanding of her subjects and imparts it to us in that wonderfully direct but non-condescending manner. Her understanding and feelings match very much our own which she translates beautifully to the page.No other book I have read on Astaire(and I have read ALOT!) matches Croce's style and understanding, attention to detail and all put in context to the times and the behind-the-scenes production details so essential in giving its' readers the fullest understanding possible of what went into creating the finished products.
This edition is about 191 pages long in total and has a plethora of pics to enhance your reading pleasure. The last approximately 10 pages are devoted to miscellaneous pics from the films and a full spread of director Mark Sandrichs' production notes from "Follow the Fleet".
For those interested in Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers in an either casual fashion or from a more learned point of view, there isn't a volume before or since that will educate but entertain you at the same time, like "The Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers Book".

Croce's book focuses upon the dances within each film. Her understanding of the wide range of the Astaire-Rogers filmed dance legacy, and her knowledge of what it took to achieve such excellence in performance...make this book one of the two or three main literary sources on the great dance pair. Astaire-Pan-Rogers, and Born were the team that created a choreographic wellspring, over 10 films, of highly elegant, energetic, and graceful dancing. The likes of this pair, made in heaven, is not likely to be seen soon again. They were the best, the top of the top...and they knew it. Arlene Croce succeeds in this insightful and informational book in explaining why, through dance, and personality, and professionalism, Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers continue to appeal to such a universal audience.

The Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers Book is both entertaining and informative. Croce provides insightful commentary on the two stars' careers, their films, and individual dances to compliment the delightful pictures throughout the book. The top corners of the pages can even be used as a flip book so you can see a sample of Fred and Ginger dancing. This book has a wealth of information and is fabulous for anyone interested in the history of dance on film.

The definitive study of a glorious pair!

This was one of the best books I have read about Freddie Prinze Jr. Although there is a chapter in there about his former relationship with Kim McCullough (and now he's engaged to Sarah Michelle), everything in there was factual, well-written and easy to read. The author kept the fluff minimal and her points sharp when she wrote this one! There is only the meat of Freddie's life in this one, no garbage to filter through. A MUST READ FOR ALL FREDDIE FANS!!!!!!

I thought this biography of Freddie Prinze Jr. was well written and interesting. As a Freddie fan there were many things I learned from this book that I never would have known through his movies. Even if you aren't a Freddie fan it's still an interesting story to read. I also recommend the biography of Freddie written by Marc Shapiro. That one is a little more detailed and also worth reading.

This book was not only a good read but it serves as a manual for what could happen when you don't let your situation overtake you. I really enjoyed this book and passed it on to a couple of young men that I know. After reading it, I could see a change in them and that made me proud. Thank You for writing such a great book.

We live in a world where people hide behind masks! The mask of sexuality, drug addiction, and approval addiction. Fear is the cause of masks. I appreciated Front & Center because it displayed courage as Carlton Wilborn fought his fears. It is truly transparency at its finest. Carlton's writing paints beautiful pictures about his struggles. He draws you into his heart and many of us can relate with the life changing choices that developed him into who he is now. His journey is encouraging and insightful to those who seek the success he has, which is true peace and freedom! I highly recommend this memoir you will be blessed as you experience the transformation that took place in this book. It's not easy living life "Front & Center", but after reading this book you will be confident that it's possible to do it transparent and fearless!
