Brian P. Cleary has a great way of introducing and explaining pronouns to children in this book! My students have enjoyed all his books that he has written about the different parts of speech, and I have purchased everyone that he has written! He has made a boring subject entertaining and educational.

These books are so good at helping kids learn the parts of speech. They give so many clear examples of sentences, with the specific part of speech in a different color so everyone will notice it. I used these in a classroom during english class and they all loved it. A+ to this book!

This is not an in-depth, philosophical treatment of writing (though some may say the author accomplishes it indirectly), but an example after example fun activity tool for teachers--sprinkled with nuggets of wisdom throughout. For those who find such things useful (I don't necessarily) this latest edition includes rubrics, portfolio assessment, and writing across the curriculum. Even if you find only a small portion helpful, the purchase is worth the price. Suitable for primary through middle school.

I found this to be one of the most useful books for teaching writing skills. It is loaded with ideas that can be used in the classroom and can be used with teaching teachers how to teach writing skills. This book has some of the most creative and effective ideas I have seen in a long time. In fact I loaned it to someone about a year ago and have not seen it since. This demonstrates its quality. It is an easy read with samples that one can use in class forever. I recommend it highly.

Easy to use. Practical. Great table of contents to get the info you need. Each chapter short, direct, and tells you exactly what to do. I don't know how I ever taught reading without this resource. You'll have to hunt to find it (I bought my copy used) but it's worth ALL the effort.

I am very impressed with this book. It has many useful tips for inclusion (it outlines a process for beginning inclusion) and has a variety of accommodations for different learners. Accommodations are helpfully organized by types of activities (reading, writing, math, general teaching strategies, tests, etc.), and most of the accommodations would also benefit non-disabled students. I also like the humerous cartoons and the quotations throughout the book. The reproducable forms at the back of the book are also very useful. As a new Special Education teacher I find it a great resource.

This wonderful book actually attempts to make inclusion teaching sane. I would not have made it through my stint as an inclusion teacher in a middle school without it. Unfortunately, I didn't find it until after Xmas; still it got me through the roughest part. General ed teachers hate inclusion without exception. They need this book, too, since they are for the most part out of the loop--that is, they know NADA about special ed kids. This book addresses that issue and so many other issues; it offers great ways to teach different subjects to these wonderful kids. Guess what!?! A lot of these teaching techniques worked well with regular kids, too.

When I was told my daughter would be in an inclusion class, I didn't know quite what that meant--and neither, it seemed, did the school. Her speech therapist slipped me a copy of this book and suggested I study up so I'd know what to look for and what to demand. As soon as I read it, I couldn't wait to get my own copy. Inclusion seems to be the wave of the future in special education, and a book like this one can help everyone--parents, educators, administrators--get on the same page. Next time, I'll be the one slipping it to somebody.

This book is one of the best that I have seen on inclusion. "450 Strategies for Success" gives a wealth of information on to how to actually put an inclusion program into place at a school. The book has real, practical strategies to put to use in your classroom. Also included are schedules that you can use to plan school days for your students. The tips for creating a positive environment to help every teacher help their students with special needs in the inclusion classroom are priceless. I'm ordering a copy for the teacher's lounge at my school!

This is an excellent grammar description of Bahasa Indonesia, the language spoken by almost 200 million people. It is suitable both for students of the language and linguists interested in studying the intricasies of its morphology and syntax. It is easy to follow, and surpasses other available grammars for this language.

An essential resource.

I know of no other Indonesian grammar books and I don't think you need another one if you have this! In its pages you will find a full description Indonesian that is complete and as easy to understand as possible while still retaining an academic perspective. Every feature of Indonesian is covered including an excellent description of the affixes that often pose a challenge to learners. All parts of speech are well addressed. Also included is a glossary of many grammatical terms that you may come accross in studying Indonesian. In fact I think some of them are unique to concepts of Indonesian (and Malay). I am still fairly new at Indonesian so another feature of this book I like is that the examples chosen use everyday words that you are likely to encounter in newspapers and just generally living in an Indonesian speaking environment. Well done on that score Mr Sneddon! If you are a serious student of Bahasa Indonesia then you would do well to have this book at your side. There seem to be so few resources for learning Indonesian but this is definitly a quality resource. One of the only drawbacks, but an understandable one considering the approach taken, is that the informal language that you are likely to hear in Indonesia is not covered. But what the heck! This is a grammar of university Indonesian after all. (Bythe way, if you want informal Indonesian I recommend "Making Out In Indonesian" by Pater Constantine.

Although this book is only of use in combination with other learning resources, it covers just about every thing you could ever want to know on Indonesian grammer.

Do not get it thinking you will master Indonesian with it alone, buy it as it will help you to understand just about everything that the other courses, books, tapes etc leave out.

A must have for the serious student and although it is expensive you can not put a price on the information it contains.

I have two non fiction books published. Alas, I discovered Shaun Fawcett book after my books were already in print. In it I found many things I had to learn the hard way. I have read many books on how to write books, some of them excellent, but they did not have this step by step approach plus a flowchart. I was dreaming of a book of this kind, with a fully developed step by step plan. Well this book exists. If you plan to be a non fiction writer this book will avoid you costly mistakes and will accelerate your path towards success. Also, it will enable you to become an author-entrepreneur of your own books. The key to it is the step by step plan. Buy it!

This truly is a comprehensive manual on how to write and publish an ebook, covering everything from font styles to obtaining copyright and ISBN numbers, marketing the final product (including affiliates), arranging for payment processing, and utilizing "Print On Demand." Unlike many books of this type, it doesn't sugar coat the task at hand, but rather offers practical advice ranging from how to obtain a professionally designed cover to overcoming the dreaded "writer's block." Finally, his critique of the traditional publishing model is the best I've ever read!

The concepts are valid and the instructions are good, but there are several references and internet tools which are no longer available or are simply outdated. This book is dated (copyrighted) 2004, and four years in the online world is a verrrry long time. It wouldn't take much to revise this book and bring it up to date, but the author hasn't seen fit to do this, at least not yet. One has to know where to go to find current tools to substitute for the outdated ones. However, I think the overall value is still there.

Instead, it's focused on helping you get the book done and sold. Of particular interest to me was his advice to "Create your Sales Mini-Site" and "Create a free mini-course."

Linguistically, the most exiting language course ever published for learners of the Shoshoni Language. The course starts with Dr. Loether's refinement of the old Shoshoni orthography, then slowly begins feeding the learner into meaningful dialogs and situations, mixed with useful everyday vocabulary, grammar, and sentence drills. This course is designed for the learner to actually use the Shoshoni language, such as, at the house, the trading post, the museum, the pow-wow, or the university. The tapes are wonderfully orchestrated by fluent Drusilla Gould, who speaks very slow and thoughtfully for the learner focusing on the new sounds and words.

Culturally, An Introduction to the Shoshoni Language is a window into the Shoshoni people and culture. Each chapter, in addition to the language lesson, introduces the learner to different topics and cultural situation facing the everyday Shoshoni person. At the end of each dialog, there are

This is it! The ultimate book for those of you who are past the basics, but still need help on your conceptualization. This is an awesome resource and one of my (a Deaf American Sign Language instructor) favorites!

Granted, this book is a challenge and, if you don't already have a firm understanding of ASL, can be intimidating on your own. But the benefits you will reap from this book are worth the extra brain power. Filled from front to back with outstanding illustrations of signs, this book takes you through various experiences and shows you three things: The person's conversation in ASL (written form through glosses), the person's conversation translated for you into English, and the ASL conversation drawn out for you in impressive illustrations. They also have notes about specific idiomatic phrasing, ASL glossed monologues (which you have to translate yourself), and practice sentences and exercises.

I feel this is one book that should be in every signer's library (hearing, hard of hearing, deaf, obstinate, you name it). Higher than Highly recommended, if you are serious about ASL, you will not regret the time, money or brain power used to drink in this work of art! :v)

My first reaction on getting this book was, "Whoa, I better get his "Beginning Conversational Sign Language." Unfortunately this is his only book. It definitely is designed to be used in class rather than for home study, and it will sober you up quickly if you had delusions about learning fluent ASL on your own. On the other hand, it has an incredible amount of detail about the fine points of ASL grammar and how a single sign can vary depending on context. I would like to see a "Teacher's Edition" with answers for the exercises, and a little more attention to detail where the pictures and the glosses don't always match.

Dave Sperling's The Internet Guide for English Language Teachers (Prentice Hall Regents) is a veritable gem, and like any gem what it lacks in its less than formidable size (150 pages) it makes up for in its reference value. Indeed, you might consider the book an essential Internet guide for English language teachers taking their first plunge into cyberspace. Experienced users will also find much in the book to recommend it. Dave a Net veteran, well-known for his excellent ESL Café, has whipped up a feast that covers the entire range of Internet services from using e-mail and communicating on the Net through to making your first Web page. Even getting ESL jobs. His many pages of favourite sites comprises a compelling treasure map that blazes a trail for the ESL practitioner eager to use the Internet to achieve best practice and successful outcomes for students. The book lists numerous sites to visit for research purposes, classroom material, interactive learning activities, games, student projects and much more. He even visits Australia to provide some local flavour. It's a very user-friendly book that touches on everything from emoticons to MOOS. Sperling cuts through the technobabble and dishes out, in very digestible servings, what many readers have always wanted to know but were too afraid to ask. Such readers are pointed to helpful sites on the Net that continue this process of demystification. At the end of the book is a useful glossary for all beginners. The Australian price for The Internet Guide for English Language Teachers is $24.95. I recommend that ESL centres and teachers considering venturing onto the Net, and those who want to reach in deeper, dig into their budgets and buy a copy. Get it while it's hot and steamy with the latest information.

He has gone a step further still and organized all hieratic signs into a logical reference work, that is easy to use, logical and can be expanded upon. This will prove to be a valuable reference tool for Egyptologists, for many years to come.
