This book is great for teaching kids about colors. My 2 year old loves it and after only 2 weeks of reading this book at bed time, she is starting to recite the story with me as I read it. Yes, we read this book every night. I wish she would mix it up some, but it is one of her top 3 books right now.

My grandson loves anything backyardigans so I had to buy this book. It's small enough to fit in a diaper bag very colorful and there are enough details in the pictures that you can sit and point things out. Great for when you are stuck waiting someplace.

"Jungle Colors" is a simple but fun board-book featuring your backyard friends, The Backyardigans. In this book, the Backyardigans are on a jungle adventure, much like some of the ones seen on TV. But this jungle adventure is especially colorful. They encounter various colors as they make their journey, from brown to fabulous red rubies.

The colors are bright and cheerful. The illustrations go well with the fairly simply text. A nice book for basic learning about colors or for Backyardigans fans. This is a "Super Chubby" board-book by Simon Spotlight. That means that the front and back covers have a sort of squishy feel to them and the book won't easily slip out of little kids' hands.

Relive a Magical Season!
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-10-15
My clearest memory of the 1980 Kardiac Kids has nothing to do with any game or player. Instead it occured as a passenger in my mom's car about a week before Christmas and the song "Twelve Days of a Browns' Christmas" came on the radio. My mother, who is neither a sports nor music fan, surprisingly listened to the entire song. She then smiled, shook her head, and said: "People are nuts, aren't they?" To me, it was proof that Kardiac Kids' mania, which had swept the city, had in its own little way affected my mom too.

It's goofy stuff like the above which reminds me why the Kardiac Kids are still loved and why they are such an important part of the history of the Cleveland Browns despite the fact they never won a single playoff game. It is because they brought so much sheer joy and excitement to Cleveland at a time it didn't have anything else to be upbeat about. So much so that even non-sports fans, like my mom, got caught up in it.

The late 60's and the 70's were an awful time for Cleveland- riots, factories closing, the river on fire, the city in default, and being the punchline for every lame joke about civic despair and disarray. As the 70's ended, things looked grim in Cleveland. Nor could Clevelanders take solace in their sports teams: the Indians were in the midst of their decades long span of non-contention, the Cavaliers were being run into ground by the buffoonish Ted Stepien, and the Browns, once the "New York Yankees of pro-football," were wallowing in a sustained period of mediocrity.

Yet in 1980 that changed. Led by a glib, gambling head coach, Sam Rutigliano, and argubaly the greatest overachiever in Browns' history, QB Brian Sipe- a former 13th round draft pick who eventually went on to shatter every Browns' passing record- the Browns went to 11-5, won their division title, and captured the hearts of a city. That is the story of Jonathan Knight's "Kardiac Kids."

Knight takes the reader through the entire football season: from an ugly pre-season, to the disappointing 0-2 start, through the tough march of regular season with its bruising contests against the more highly touted Steelers and Oilers, the agony of the Vikings' game, and the clinching of the division title. Of course, Knight devotes a entire chapter to the legendary "Red Right 88" playoff game which has been seared into the memories of all Browns fans since including those who weren't even born yet.

Knight also attempts to capture how the city literally fell in love with this team. By the end of the year, thousands of fans were greeting the team at the airport upon their return from victorious road games. He recounts stories of Kardiac Kids' mania sweeping Cleveland in late 1980 in a frenzy that had not been seen before or since. He also takes occasional glimpses at the world outside Cleveland: the on-going presidential contest between Reagan and Carter and the death of John Lennon. However, these are minor asides in comparison to the very detailed depictions of each individual game.

Overall, this is very well-written book. Knight thoroughly researched his subject. In addition to watching old game films and scouring newspaper archives, he was also able to interview many prominent members of the Kardiac Kids including Coach Rutigliano, who wrote the book's forward, Doug Dieken, Thom Darden, and Mike Pruitt.

I read "Kardiac Kids" for the same reasons Jonathan Knight wrote it: being an ardent Browns' fan who is fully aware that the 1980 season was special, but wasn't old enough to truly appreciate it at the time. In his preface, Knight states that in lieu of a time machine allowing him to go back to 1980 and experience it himself, he wrote this book as being "the next best thing." I think he succeeded at this goal admirably.

I was born in 1979 but still loved this book!

I may have been born in 1979 but this book is a must-read for all Cleveland Browns fans. It is nearing the end of the 2004 season and things are not looking well but reading this book will help you get through tough times like these.

The author provides an accurate description of each and every 1980 game along with a nice prologue, epilogue and "Where are they now?" type information.

I will buy every book by Jonathan Knight!

I have to be truthful here. I really didn't like the book after reading it once. When I went back through it for a second time, I began to understand Knight's thought process when he put the book together, and even though some parts were tough to get through, I was glad I re-read it by the time I finished. If you don't know much about the famous Kardiac Kids, I'd recommend that you give it a thorough read. If you're a self-proclaimed Browns expert, check it out from a library somewhere.

THIS IS A VERY GOOD READ CONCERNING THE 1980 CLEVELAND BROWNS ON A ROLLER COASTER RIDE ON THEIR WAY TO THE PLAYOFFS. THE AUTHOR DOES A GOOD JOB RECALLING ALL THE EXCITING, FRUSTRATING AND DISAPPOINTING MOMENTS OF THIS MEMORABLE SEASON FOR THE BROWNS. HE COVERS HOW THE TEAM WAS PUT TOGETHER, INTERVIEWS FROM PLAYERS AND COACHES FROM THAT TEAM, AND GAME BY GAME REVIEW. ALSO COVERS DRUG ABUSE, TEAM COVERAGE OF PREVIOUS AND NEXT SEASONS. JONATHAN KNIGHT CERTAINLY DID A LOT OF RESEARCH AND RESULTS ARE A GREAT JOB. VERY RECOMMENDED.

i am 15 years old, and a browns fanatic. i am unfortunate enough to have not experienced the 1980 season firsthand. however, this book makes me feel as if i had. i picked it up because my dad would always tell me stories of how good they were and it made me want to be a part of it. it is very well written, blending accounts of the PD (clevelanders know what that is) with insights from the players and coaches. this is the best book about the brwns i have ever read, and aside from friday night lights, this is my favorite book of all time.

I loved every part to this book. It is a great thing to read, it has how to sneak around, pig latin, questions that adults should know, tennis ball launchers, kid facts(one of my favorites) and so much other cool stuff. When I bought it the whoopie cushion didn't work at all, so don't get all excited about that part.

It is great for boredom in the summer, and might drive your parents crazy, in a not so bad way.

Now, I do not actually own this book. My friend Rebecca does though. No, Im not actually Mary Lee, but her "little girl" (well, if 11 is little) Now, I highly recommend this to all kids who really love to annoy/trick their parents, like me. It has a very good trick called the Egg Trick, youll have to buy the book to see what it is. It also had tips for sneaking around (as I've been sneaking around for a good 9 years, I knew all of these but their good for inexperienced sneakers). It has a TON of fun things to do in it, this is really worth the cash. If youre a parent looking for a good Christmas gift, this is perfect! Dont worry, like it says on the cover, you will NOT disapprove of anything in this.

This is a terrific book! The strategies in it are useful and easy to follow. In being able to understand how each student learns, you can better teach that child. Also, when the students themselves understand how they learn, they can adapt their studying to fit their personal style.

"Life: The Ultimate Picture Puzzle" is the third book in the series of books based on the popular feature in the now defunct Life Magazine. For the most part the puzzles involve two pictures of the same thing, with the second picture having a number of changes from the first picture. The changes can range from simple things like a person added to the picture to hard to spot things like a shirt being a different color. There are also several "cut up puzzles" in which the editors took a photo, cut it into 4, 6, 12 or 18 pieces, rearranged the pieces, numbered them, and you have to figure out the correct order of the pieces to solve the puzzle. There are also some puzzles with six pictures, five of which are identical and you have to find the one that is different. Finally, there are also ten secret changes scattered throughout the book - changes that aren't listed in the instructions and the answers can be found on the Internet not in the book.

"Life: The Ultimate Picture Puzzle" is a fun, challenging puzzle book. It has several different levels or types of puzzles - Novice, Master, Expert, Genius, Animals, and Classics - so there is a little bit of something for everyone. If you want to further challenge yourself, the editors give a suggested time limit for solving each puzzle with the harder puzzles having longer time limits. The editors do a good job of putting the puzzles in the right category and putting the right number of puzzles in each category - the Genius category, which can be fiendish, is one of the shortest sections and the animal section immediately following is a welcome relief. The number of changes in the picture varies with each puzzle and I find that the pictures with the most changes are harder simply because it can be hard to keep track of the changes you find. I dislike the cut up puzzles, which I find impossible to solve without cutting up the book.

"Life: The Ultimate Picture Puzzle" provides hours of challenging fun for solvers young and old.

"Mah Jong: From Shanghai to Miami Beach" is a wonderful little book about the history of Mah Jong. The author gives a history of the game and how it evolved into a popular game in the U.S., especially amongst Jewish women of all ages. It gave me a new appreciation of the game and made me want to get out my inherited mah jong set and call all my friends together to play. I highly recommend it to anyone who has ever played the game or who had a mother or grandmother who played or who has a daughter who wants to play. The book makes a wonderful gift for the game lover.

Like Mah Jongg tiles themselves, this book is a visual and tactile joy. Nice case binding, heavy weight paper, tons of great photos. Content is excellent too with lots of history, trivia, and succinct instructions for play. This would be wonderful gift book. My only criticism is that dates in the photo captions are sometimes clearly wrong. I think the authors decided, "when in doubt, label it ca. 1923"

I am a party consultant by trade with several large accounts, and this book has provided some fantastic new activities. It is difficult to think of new games and concepts when you have been in the business for a while, so it helps to have an outsider's ideas. The psychic and seance activities are unbelievably innovative! We have modified some of the activities to tone them down for corporate accounts, but the concepts are still very strong and easily adaptable. Considering my hourly charges, this book was a bargain.

I got tired of bikini contests, but it's really difficult to constantly think of new and fun things to do with people. So I did some homework and --tadah!-- I found this crazy book! In the past 4 months, I have worked non-stop and have enjoyed quite a success, due in part to inspiration and general kooky behavior described in this book! I now own TWO copies of "Make Some Noise", one which I carry with me to all gigs, and one that I leave at the club, and they're both well loved and dog eared. This book has been a source of ideas for mayhem and merriness for me, and I would like to keep on keeping on! I am anxiously awaiting the sequel... HIGHLY recommend this fun book to anyone in the entertainment business, whether you're a DJ, band, bar manager, or party planner. You won't be disappointed!

I picked up this book a few months ago for some party game ideas to use at my DJ events. I have to tell you I've had things spilled on it, the pages are ratty, the cover is now torn, but I make sure I've always got it with me because I've used this book countless times. Some of these contests are hilarious. I've generated many referral sales and picked up a few nights at a local nightclub as a result of the chaos that the things in this book have caused! Make Some Noise is an invaluable resource for DJs and bars. Also recommend How To Be A DJ by same author - even more awesome marketing tips!

Forget about bikini contests, banana eating contests and all that silly stuff everyone else has been doing the past 10 years. It's no wonder the club business is suffering - it's been incredibly BORING! "Make Some Noise" finally brings some new and sometimes pretty wild contests and promotions to light. I run a mid-sized bar in the Philadelphia suburbs, and this book has been a big part of helping build some really fun nights. We're about to try "Midget Wrestling", and my advance ticket sales have been better than any band I've had here in years. "Barbie Girl" was a total scream! And the local police got involved with "The Sobriety Olympics", which they thought was a great idea to teach people how too much alcohol can impair your judgment. We've even had people go out to their cars, remove their spare tires for a prize! Most of these ideas are sooo out of the box that they're just perfect for this industry. I can't say enough good things about the insight provided by Make Some Noise. Definitely recommended reading for anyone looking for fun stuff to do. Two thumbs up; three if I had another!

Superb boxes. Original designs.
To follow the plans takes a bit more than beginner's knowledge, I think.
Good to read anyway, for a woodworker.

Oh yes: watch the metric/English measure conversions. Page 26: 1500 mm (= l.5 m) = 5 ft (60 in.), not 5 in.
Page 91: 550 mm = 22 in., not 220

Thought the book was ok but....

To be honest I did not find many of the boxes in this book that attractive. Granted I am not what you would call a sensisitve artsy kind of guy, but I just thought some of the boxes in the book were not very nice looking.
The instruction and detail of the book were very good but I found many of them just plain odd looking.
Might just be my idea of what a Heirloom box should look like.

Great Book - Even if you only look at the Pictures

Very thorough as Peter Lloyd gives plenty of detail on how to make the boxes....Worth it even you will only look at the pictures of the finished boxes!

Excellent

Even if you don't plan on making any boxes, this book contains beautiful and amazing pictures. It contains thorough instructions even saying where to get the wood and how to season it before using it. It would make a great gift for an art lover or to have around to entertain guests. I wish there was a hardcover edition.

Only for the hardcore box maker

I'd love to review this book but I'm afraid I died of boredom trying to read it.
