Aloys Senefelder discovered the lithographic process in 1798. It was subsequently introduced to the publishing community of Scotland in 1815. The earliest lithographic printer traced in the directors of Scotland was John Robertson of Edinburgh in 1820. This new art form spread rapidly through Scotland's printing establishment and great to more than 180 lithographic printers by 1870. David Schenck's Directory Of The Lithographic Printers Of Scotland 1820-1870 is the first detailed investigation of the development of lithographic printing in Scotland. This impressive work of exhaustive research and painstaking scholarship lists over 700 practitioners within the 50 year span of 1820 to 1870. Included are all of the printer's dates, addresses, and works. This seminal reference work will be of inestimable value to students of early Scottish lithographic, artistic printmaking, and the history of printing.

Got a melody in your ear?? FIND IT!
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2003-02-14
This book is such an excellent example how simple things can be made.
You all know it - you hear a melody, like it, and then can't get rid of it. It stays in your ear ... and then you want to know: WHAT IS THIS??
Now, this book is able to give the answer. AND: You don't have to be an expert in musics - it's as simple as counting from one to three.
Are you able to decide whether the next tone is higher or lower than the previous? Well, that's it, you can use the book!

The first tone is noted as a dot (.), since we can't say "up" (U) or "down" (D) or "repeat" (R). Starting from there, each following tone is noted as U,D or R. This is done for the first 15 tones, and the resulting sequence mostly identifies each theme in each movement and piece.
So, e.g. Beethoven's 5th is
.RRDURRDURRDUURRD (at least I hope it is ...)

You write down the melody you can't get rid of in R-D-U notation, find the corresponding entry and know what it is.

I LOVE IT! I NEED IT! My parents (music teachers) depend on it.
And you will as well.

It is out of print, but if you can get one - I've seen auctions and offers for more than 350$!

This is a volume a booklover just can't wait to own.

The devotions created, developed, and practiced by the common people fulfill a special role in the spiritual life of the Church. Although Vatican Council II thoroughly reviewed and revised the liturgy, little attention was directed to popular devotions. Attending to that gap, in 2001 the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments at the Vatican issued the DIRECTORY ON POPULAR PIETY AND THE LITURGY: PRINCIPLES AND GUIDELINES. The commentary that Peter Phan has edited illuminates the DIRECTORY, reinforcing the three principles that undergird the relationship between liturgy and popular piety: the necessity of liturgy and the sacraments to supercede devotions; the need to align popular piety with current customs and culture; and the desirability of separating and defining liturgy as distinct from popular piety.

While directed primarily to bishops and the clergy, those involved in relevant aspects of ministry will want to review the Vatican document along with the commentary to properly direct both liturgy and devotions.

The Amazing Doctor Grodbort's
Contrapulatronic Dingo Directory!

How could we have lived without Doctor Grodbort to this point!!!

When the Martian invasion of 2005 started, I found myself saying "If only I had a weapon capable of melting these Martian maniacs into a gelatinous blob!" Similarly, the Plutonian appearance of 1999 (and subsequent election to the US presidency) elicited cries of "Give me a Weapon of extreme destruction!"

No more.

The foresighted Dr Grodbort has created a line of weaponry that makes the most unhinged members of our earth military organizations giggle with delight. Not so only the unhinged, but also members of every country, state, and service group can purchase weaponry such as the Goliathon 83, the Lazoplod 300, the Falconer 6000, and the Destroxulonic Plosive Force De-Stablisizer. The hum drum Smith and Wesson, our old fashioned 45 Peacemaker, and even the classic Winchester 73 are no more. Why merely penetrate when we can percolate the transgressors, trespassers, and instigators of our lives?

Lord Coxwain, in a balanced moment, gives a splendid demonstration of the proper use of his galactic minded firearms on an Easter trip to Venus. Truly inspiring!

Ooh, I could wax eloquently about Dr Grodbort's catalogue edition, but those like minded have already purchased their copy and ordered at least one weapon (and a spare for their sweetie). To be truthful, I am resting comfortably on the Posteriortron 12 with an optional MP3 port.

I know what you're saying. This is only a book. Wrong! This is more than a book, it is a moment of mirth that Greg Broadmore, in an inspired stroke of genius has provided readers with. During my `shopping', the clear almost period artwork, made this not only entertaining, but educational too.

There are many words I could use to describe this Catalogue Edition. Inspired. Megatronically Splendiferized. But, I would rather say this. This is the Mr Rogers Edition for the social outcast, the anger management problem graduate. "Can you say Boom children?"

Run to buy this book. Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy has serious competition. [...]

Cuts through the red internet tape right to the medical site. This is a comprehensive, well organized book that can save time, which is crucial ,when you're sick or a loved on is ,and you are looking for help on the internet. It has every conceivable category in a handy paperback edition. It's contents tell all from How the Internet works to a detailed list of chapters(alphabetical of course)ranging from allergy, asthma to urology. Within each category the authors almost seem to read your mind. The sub -headings under Urology, for example, are from bedwetting to prostate problems and vasectomy. There's even a chapter on Sports Medicine. Given the state of our Medical profession in the USA today this is really an essential tool up there with the dictionary and Dr. Spock.

Owning a Tibetan Spaniel

The copy I own is twenty-eight years old, published in 1980. It is the follow up to the edition published in 1974. The author, Ann Lindsay Wynyard has owned Tibetan Spaniels since 1962. She lays a wonderful foundation with detailed description of the breed's history. Her analysis of the breed's standard and character is right on point. The pictures of many of the dogs of the past and those in the pedigrees of today's greats is worth the price of the book.

I found this guide indispensable to traveling with my golden, Molly. After I exausted every resource to run away for the weekend, and was at wit's end, Eileen's guide came to the rescue. I have referred to it, time and time again, with happy results. I recommend it to anyone who wants to travel with their pooch and not feel like a criminal.
